I think Luke was actually the first one to ask her out. When Jackson & Sookie had their first date, Luke mentions to go out with her but he’s interrupted by Lane’s mom.
So if you speak English, you can understand what every person, who speaks English, says over the phone? One with a rural Maine accent? Or a Bostonian? Throw in a cold and/or bad connection or a TV running in the background and nobody understands nothing regardless of your linguistic skills.
I’m watching the episode where Kirk and Lulu have their first date at the diner. And Kirk mentions that he was doing his best “Ducky” impression-a pop culture movie reference Luke had no problem understanding. And it made me think that Luke has probably actually seen a lot of movies. He just has his own way of driving Lorelai crazy similar to the way she does to him. “Hard bodies? Casablanca? Diner? FBI warnings? What are those?” 😜😜😜 Of course you could argue that these are plot inconsistencies, or that maybe Luke is a closet John Hughes fanatic, and Pretty in Pink is his favorite movie, but I think that it’s they’ve both figured out how to push the other one’s buttons in a way nobody else can.
Yeah! Also when Mia (the Inns owner) came to town to visit, she mentions that Luke was a trekkie that means he must have been into movies & tv shows but he never mentions to anyone.
I love how Luke's head shoots up, once Lorelai mentions coming over 😉 No hesitation whatsoever from him 😊😊❤

Awe, I love when men say that to me!! Lorelai is a GODDESS;)
I still miss this, but there is SO much out there to see! The books alone are hard to keep up with...
Master of FEAR. Original.
"Julio the landscaper called I have no idea what he said" In the next season he speaks Spanish to Pedro the chef.

You're right, he must have studied up on spanish after talking with Julio The Landscaper.
I feel so bad for Ed

Lorelai looks like Molly the American Girl Doll in this scene.
