- This week architects will start deconstructing the iconic Wayfarer's chapel with the goal of preserving the historic building. Anastassia Olmos reports for the NBC4 News on May 14, 2024.
Just over a 100 years ago, this area was sand dunes, with volatile movements. Now its underlying grounds are moving. Check the history of the land before you buy.
Designed by Lloyd Wright, the architect son of FLW. Lloyd was a fine architect on his own and is underrated. Yes, relocate and restore the Wayfarers Chapel.
Lloyd Wright is underrated? Where? He is famous worldwide.
It is a lovely chapel and means a great deal to many people. I hope the deconstruction is successful and that the chapel can be reassembled in a safe location of equal natural beauty.
I remember visiting the Chapel way back in 1967/68. It is//was a beautiful area! The land movement is happening all along the coast - no surprise!
It was in Pentatonix’s music video for Amazing Grace.
Its a hilly mini mountain for a reason.... Sits adjacent to a major fault line, namely the Cabrillo Fault... Very active and moving all the time.... and in recently years the land movements on the Peninsula hills has increased dramatically ...It's actually deemed inevitable by geologists that it will be among the first parts of Southern California to be underneath the ocean in the unforeseeable future ... be it hundreds of years or thousands
Such a gorgeous , historical, icon🩵🤎!! I hope wherever it ends up it remains safe & intact ….. although it will be difficult to find a spot as amazing as it’s original location 💔💟☮️
Can’t stop the land moving.
I was a photographer for a wedding that took place there. It is gorgeous. This is devastating.
Wishing you luck
Wasn't this site's interior used as a set background in a Star Trek movie?
Sliders
@@borountree4539 Oops for me!
Ohhh I used to love visiting there. But that area is so volatile, I suppose it's for the best to move it.
Good luck! 🍀
You would think an architect would have known better than to build his house upon the sand.
wow!
Any second it can go! Head out there for a live report, Stassio! 😬
is it not possible to brace the hillside and prevent the sliding all together?
The land sliding is too vast to stabilize, and it is also near a coast that can contribute to further soil erosion. It seems geologists haven't figured the whole reason for the movement, which is why it is safer to dismantle the important pieces of the area now while full assessment is being done.
Stop the world spinning ,it's making me sick .
What a shame. Its so pretty
This is sad. The Wayfarer's Chapel is to be dismantled. 😢😢😢
Ranch of green sticks.
MOTHER EARTH RULES
They should have let everyone in the past use this chapel instead of banning Catholics from marrying there.
Ew
It's what god would've wanted...
I guess even California wants to get away from California.
$20 million?????????? No thanks
yeah seriously there are more urgent funding needed organizations than this.
Then don't contribute.
feel free to contribute to the organization of your choice then
Nobody is saying that you have to pay for it.
It's not "vair-days" lol. I bet you also say "San pay-dro" lol tourists.
Better paydro than peedro 😂
Couldn't "He" save it?😊
Matthew 7:26-27
26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it."
Kinda Ironic for a "house of god"
Think of all the good that could have been accomplished without building that massive edifice to practice idolatry for your magic sky-fairy. Maybe doing good works isn’t building mega-churches while living in $25M mansions, owning multiple private jets, doing nothing but blindly tithing to a charlatan selling you magic beans for the afterlife.
$20M?....let it go and start over.
Foolish waste of money that could be better used on housing for the homeless
One male interviewed for about 10 seconds, 8 women chattering away the rest of the time . . . ladies & ladies, I give you feminist equality.
Nature makes an old church move. LoL.. nature 1, god stuff 0 as usual...
God made nature, whether you want to believe it or not. Man made the mistake of building it there, God makes no mistakes.
