    If you want leek and potato soup but aren't feeling in a creamy mood, i make it with a bit more stock and then just blend the onion/leek/potato/stock mix and keep adding water till I get the right consistency. Sometimes i add 1/4 a cup of oat milk to make it a bit creamier if thats what I'm feeling - I'm sure almond / soya / dairy (whatever you're into) will work just as well! But you don't really need the extra splash of milk in my opinion as the blended potatoes make it plenty thick!

    I also tried baking gluten-free cinnamon rolls and had the exact same experience but with a different UK based recipe... they were SO DRY! I also spent hours hanging around my kitchen for it... disappointing.
    I ended up slathering mine in butter, microwaving them for 30 seconds or mashing them into porridge ahah.

    Quaker shared lunches were such an integral part of my childhood! There was always an enormous tupperware container of houmous - I feel like that's a universal Quaker thing? My mum always made pasta salad and/or banana bread.

    A little trick from my grandmother when mashing a soup: you can buy these flat, round plastic things with a whole in the middle through which you put the shaft of the mixer. Put the plastic thing on top of the pot while mixing et voila no splashing!

    i tried them once and they were absolutely delicious! you might need to change some bits since you're gluten free but i'm sure they'll be just as delicious.. also if you're dough is too wet you can always add more flour of your choice to soke up the moisture:)

    Loved the style of this video, made me feel really cosy, definitely need to try a London fog!!
    A little tip my mum taught me when making a cottage pie is to beat an egg and add it to the mash so when it cools it creates a more golden, crisp finish. She’d also do it on top of fish pie and it was incredible! X

    I’m lactose intolerant and you can very well make a leak and potato soup without cream and milk 😊. Follow the same exact recipe, and add and onion to the leek and potato, you’ll just have to leave it on the fire 10-20 minutes after blending and it’s as smooth as it would be with the cream! xx

    Oh my goodness so many great recipe ideas! Think I might put all of the dinners you made on my to make list. For the leek potato soup I wonder if canned coconut milk would work better? I’m not big on dairy either and that’s what I usually use as a sub for heavy cream.

    • @ruthboey3436
      @ruthboey3436 3 года назад

      Maybe try soy or rice 'cream'! I never use regular cream anymore, so heavy. Both the soy and rice alternative give your dishes a lovely creamy texture and don't have an overpowering taste as coconut cream tends have. :)

    • @lemonlemonster
      @lemonlemonster 3 года назад

      @@ruthboey3436 Oh interesting! Like the stuff in the refrigerated section? I always thought of that stuff as just for coffee and hadn't thought of using it for cooking. Maybe I'll try that next time.

    • @ruthboey3436
      @ruthboey3436 3 года назад

      @@lemonlemonster yes in the refrigerated section! Where I live the non dairy cream I use is from Alpro and it's called 'soya cuisine'. In organic shops I found a nice rice cream that is lovely but can't find it everywhere. They're not sweet so they're definitely for cooking I think!

  • @rubiebarker5152

    I'd recommend with the soup using vegetable stock, just a stock cube and hot water. Whether it is instead of the cream of half and half , it may feel a bit lighter :)

    Okay, I'm from Vancouver, Canada, where London Fog is from, and when I moved to the UK four years ago, I searched EVERYWHERE for a place that sold it (not realizing that it was from Canada). I have asked several Starbucks stores to do one, and so far, no one knows what I mean. I now have gotten to a point where I've told one of the workers at an independent cafe local to me (Chester) what it is and he makes one for me when I come in. It's so weird because in Vancouver, every cafe does it. It's just as normal as a latte.

  • @steph4798

    I watched this entire video earlier and it made me want a London Fog so badly. Now I'm rewatching it with a London Fog procrastinating on studying for exams.

    Nearly a decade of watching British youtubers and not much phases me anymore in terms of cultural and accent differences- but when you said "oregano" I literally froze everything I was doing and had to just think about it for a minute. In the US we pronounce it "Uh-reg-uh-no" and each part is stressed equally. Idk why but accent differences are so fascinating to me, like when you read a book that you saw the movie for and get distracted noticing all the things that the movie changed. (and another thing about americans, an immensely vast majority of us use store bought pillsbury dough cinnamon buns that go directly from a tube in the fridge to the oven lol)
