52yo Holmes still showing there are levels! Inspiring performance by the legend
That left hook doesn't even land, Larry slipped, come on now lol
Clear as day, didn't even touch him
If this was Holmes in his prime Butter Bean wouldn't have lasted 3 rounds.
Most definitely.
optimistic, I would say 3 rounds would have been an achievement for Butterbean against early 80s Larry.
When Larry had adequate time to train, he was a force to reckon with!
He made Merciless Ray Mercer look like an amateur, went the distance with Holyfield and boxed circles around Butterbean.
A sad spectacle this but even at 50+ and in understandably poor shape old man Larry still had a mean jab. No way that was a legit knockdown either.
Old guy just lost his balance, that was no knockdown. Nothing connected
@@ney57e Butterbean's left hand sort of slapped against Larry's shoulder, as you say he just lost his balance. He was just doing what he'd been doing all fight after landing against that big blob, stepping back, he just happened to lose his balance.
Love the channel! Keep it up guys. We’re here for the ride
I know butterbean has his fans out there but im glad you said it. He did not fight anyone of any skill in the heavyweight division. Hes famous for toughman contest and against people who nobody knew about. Holmes exposed him in the same light a guy like Wilder got exposed. Hardest puncher in heavyweight history give me a break.
I totally agree, despite liking butterbeans KO videos, but to be fair butterbean himself never talked himself up as if he was the next Ali or Tyson.
@@johnfromwales6713 yes just a different category of fighter all together, butter bean was awesome thou.
Actually, if you listen to interviews with Butterbean, he talks himself up like he was one of the best heavyweights of his era. He lies about the quality of his opponents, and claims that Tyson and others ducked him. Fun guy, and very good to his fans, but a guy who has bought into the myth he himself created.
Butterbean never pretended to be anything he wasn't. He went on WWF, did Jackass, did all that business. Got a chance against proper professional boxers and couldnt hack it but the bloke was honest and humble about who he was. Nothing wrong with that.
That left in the 9th didn't even look like it landed
I agree. Larry's shoulder protected him. The "punch" was more like a graze.
Larry looked like he injured his knee or heel when adjusting. He clearly winced in pain falling back but was not hit at all.
@@DC-cy6uj It was a grazed but on the temple, sometimes it's enough to make you lose equilibrium.
Ive been clipped by that same punch, with your weight movinf forward and focus on your own punch, that hook can land harder than it looks (punch you don't see coming)
It’s sad when boxers try to hang in way past their prime. Basically they all do it.
It was performance's like this that made Lewis avoid Holmes like the plague.
A prime Larry Holmes and L. Lewis would have been a great fight. I would go with Holmes for the W.
Looked like Larry injured his leg while blocking that shot in the last round becasue he clearly winced in pain but did not get hit at all on the way down.
Butterbean had a solid chin.
holmes never had insane power in his right tbf (not to say he was feather fistered or anything)
Good documentary, but Michael Spinks is the younger brother of Leon.
Larry the most underrated 🏆
Fantastic Fellow.....................Larry Holmes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holmes in his prime was a master heavyweight boxer. Lewis vs Holmes is one of my ultimate fantasy fights.
I watched this live on CableTV. Loved it
Butterbean also participated in Mr. Olympia, but he didn't win. 😁
Must of been political.
Love the Nero Wolfe reference at about 5:35 !!
Casual fans think people like Butterbean were good. But a 30 something Holmes. Destroyed by Tyson and beaten by Holyfield. Could have really hurt this novelty act.
Larry top 5 to ever do it. Butterbean crazy chin
Michael Buffers best ring intro EVER
2:09 Michael is younger than Leon....
*Younger than Leon Spinks*
The punches I like is:
The Jab - Overhand
Hey! alie didnt have to take that fight .That beating was on him.
2:12 Michael is not the older brother of Leon, it's the other way around
Bean Didn't care about winning you wanted to show people he can go 10 rnd
He needed that 69th win respect
Butterbean really thought this was going to be his crowning achievement. He thought he would forever be able to go around saying, "I beat one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time." Even now, he actually brags about this fight..."I went 10 rounds with Larry Holmes and knocked him down." Fortunately, this essentially ended the mystique of Butterbean actually being able to compete with quality boxers. Butterbean fought for years after this, but was never able to draw a crowd to his boxing matches the same way.
That left hook at 08:06 did not connect. Glanced of Holmes' right shoulder.......yet he went down?
Butterbean can't hold Holmes Joc strap
Love Tyson for schooling holmes for Ali .
Great to see
Beat a very retired old man facts
Tyson basically did to Holmes, what Holmes did to Ali - not much of an achievement. No one made Ali fight Holmes, so I don't really get why he's made out to be the bad guy (nor Tyson the good guy)
@@WillStone-ib1czAli had friends around him that kept taking all his money and convincing him to keep on fighting. I have no idea why he kept them around.
3:54: Tall???
Holmes would beat Lewis past his prime in 2001
That absolutely was not a knockdown. That left hand didn't even touch Holmes.
Slipped at the 8:00 mark
Difference between a professional and an amateur even in his 50s out of shape and ring rusty he still out classes butterbean
Butterbean wasnt a spring chicken by then either, and considering his overweight it had added effect, he slowed down signiicantly even at 36, still, even in his prime he would not win this.
@@TerranigmaQuintet Larry Holmes was a Professional boxer He has the best trainers in the business and a natural talent. it can not be beaten
Ppl can downplay BUTTERBEAN all they want!!.. However?... although he never fought the GREATS coming up? Those guys he DID beat?! Each and EVERY one of them were PRO fighters!! ANY of those guys he beat?? You or I? Wouldn't stand a sliver of a chance!! I'm in EXCELLENT condition and play MULTI-SPORTS!! So?...I figured Boxing would be easy!? I TRIED to go 3 rounds ( on a dare) against a MUCH older guy that just by looking at him? I thought NO WAY could I lose!! I'm TELLING YOU!! After just 3 rounds!? I EMBARRASSINGLY had to quit!! It's NOT bc I was getting beat up!? It was bc I was ABSOLUTELY GASSED!! My legs felt like 2 WET NOODLES!! For a guy as BIG as BUTTERBEAN? With lil/no cardio whatsoever!? To be able to even go as far? As long as he did!? Is an INCREDIBLE feat in itself! Don't believe me? Next time you're feeling FRISKY?.. Try going to your local gym to spar 3 rounds ( That's it!) and see how YOU feel? 🤢..to..🥵..to..🤮..to..🤬..to..🤕
