    Hey Geoff, we’ll done. Very good presentation, no bs about forcing viewers to watch long drag out boring bits, straight to the point. I appreciate it. Get a proper mic if you could for future vids, I thought I have gone deaf! My Cafe Roma has been going for 15 yrs, still is going. Only needed a descale after something was blocked inside the guts. Yup, only ever descaled once in 15 yrs! Either I’m hopelessly lazy ( probably) or the machine is damn good. Cheers!

    Just got a 2nd one for free tonight. Heats up and you can hear the pump run, but no pressure. Will get into it in the next few days. It was worth getting for me for the extra portafilter and the single shot cup. Came with the espresso cups and the steam cup.

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  5 лет назад +1

      Thats a sweet score, especially for the free extras. Try priming the pump, it sounds like it might be hydrolocked. This is when air gets into the pump lines and it can't produce any pressure. If you have a syringe or a turkey baster, you might be able to get it going again by forcing water into the intake lines. Failing that, maybe a good cleaning would do the trick! Good luck!

    Just bought this machine second hand. When priming the pump with a baster I can get water to push through the group head and steam wand just fine. However, the pump sounds quiet when I do so and will not suck water on its own after I try prime it. Is the pump broken, or do you think it is a different issue I could fix? Thanks!

    is there any concern with heat and the female spade connectors i thought they need to be plain with no insulation as they may not take the heat also do you use high temp shrink wrap or will any shrink wrap do?

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  2 года назад

      Hey! Not sure about the heat concern. This was mainly a quick repair to get the guy going again. That being said, On higher end espresso machines, the spades are usually insulated. Sometimes this makes the insulation a bit brittle, but never melts. The temp is never that high outside of the boiler/heat block. I just used cheap automotive heat shrink. I think that should do for most applications. I have had that melt before, but that was because I was using a wire that wasn't the proper gauge.

    Hey thanks for your video! I noticed that my machine is making the same loud hallow thumping noise as yours is when you use the steam wand. I just got this second hand and noticed that in other videos of the machine it’s not doing that. The water is hot but that noise doesn’t sound good! Was wondering what you think!

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  4 года назад +2

      Thank you! The thumping noise is normal when the machine is heating to steam. It’s injecting small amounts of water into the heating block to be turned into steam. It’s also normal for the machine to get hot up top. It’s an intentional hot surface for the purpose of heating cups.

    Geoffrey, have the same espresso maker and was in storage so my wife wanted an espresso but it did not pump any water out. I took the bottom filter out, cleaned it in white vinegar and brushed it clean with a dish brush. Still no water. What would be the next step? Thanks!

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  4 года назад

      Hey Scott, it sounds like the lines may have dried up when the machine was in storage. This can actually prevent the pump from moving water due to "hydro-lock". if filling the reservoir with water and running the pump for a while doesn't work, then you have to manually force water into the pump. To do this, remove the water reservoir. You should see a port where the reservoir connects. You will need to force water into this port with the pump switched on. You can use a syringe or a turkey baster, or something similar. If this works, you should hear the tone of the pump change as it fills with water. At this point, shut off the pump, put the reservoir back in, and run the pump again. It may take a few rounds to work, but this should kick-start the pump into moving water again. Hope this helps!

      @@gpereir4 Geoffrey, the good news is water is coming out but it seems to be also leaking out the bottom, too. I'm wondering if that's water at the bottom of the well where the the port is.? Accidentally knocked the reservoir container and had a big mess with vinegar to boot. Will try tomorrow after the flood dries up.

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  4 года назад

      @@scottrosenthal3437 Good that water is coming out! Hope the leak is easily identified and fixed. It is quite possibly leaking at the bottom of the reservoir where the port connects to the tubing leading to the pump. At about 4:06 in the video, you can see where the hose attaches. I would check to see that the clamp there is still tight around the fitting. Good luck!

    Thanks for this video, very helpful. I have a same model Espresso Machine, not used too much, just found no steam output recently. After viewing your video, I opened the top cover and tried to find the reason. All connections look good and vibration pump also works properly. When switched to brewing, hot water comes out and can hear the pump sound. So pump is good, heating block no issues. When switched to steam, no pump sound, in the beginning a little bit steam comes out from the wand and then no further steam. It looks no tube block/clogging inside (already descaling using vinegar). My understanding is no power supply under steam mode and the pump power is supplied from PCB (M connection with white color wire), I checked the voltage only 1.6V when steaming. Do you think it's the reason or I should check other points? Appreciate if you can give some thoughts. Thanks!

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  3 года назад

      I am not sure what else you could try. I don't really have much experience troubleshooting PCB boards. I guess just check that the switch connection is operating properly. You could check the terminals at the pump under steam mode to see if there is voltage being pulsed to the pump? Other than that, not sure what to check!

    • @patricklee9443
      @patricklee9443 3 года назад

      @@gpereir4 Thanks for the reply. I checked both Micro Switchs for water and steam, looks both working properly. Under brewing mode (switching to right side), the pump is supplied 120V AC from right switch and heating is controlled by the rear Thermostat (98C). Under steam mode (switching to left side), the pump is supplied less and regulated voltage from PCB through white wire (M connection) and heating is controlled by the front Thermostat (140C). I'll further check and figure out how the PCB works and find the reason of no voltage output under steam mode.

      Could be hydrolocked due to an air bubble in the pump. The best way to force water into the pump as its trying to run. Try taking the intake hose off and injecting water into it with a syringe with the pump running. This primes it and gets it running again.

    • @gpereir4
      @gpereir4  5 лет назад

      Its usually normal to get a small amount of water before steam comes out. However, if you are getting more water than you think you should be, there could be a corroded connection to the heating element just like mine, preventing it from heating up quickly to produce the steam. The water on the counter sounds like a leaking gasket on connection between the water reservoir and the machine, where it plugs in when you set it down in. Take a look at both the reservoir and down in the machine where it attaches, and see if you see a rubber gasket or O-ring in either spot. this may need to be changed.
