Sounds incredible! Heavily debating whether to geth the DSS-17 or a mahogany Martin. What strings are you using here??? I like how your playing in this video is fairly warm, which is what draws me to a Mahogany, but I find them too pokey and muffled usually.
I’m going to play one of these this weekend and I’m going to take my Gibson 50’s series J-50 as a comparison. I love my Gibson and I’ve owned Martins in the past. I’m looking forward to how the two play out! Thanks for this video!
@@nicbordsySorry for the late reply. So I arrived at the music store and the guy didn’t even have the DSS-17 waiting for me like he said he would. So that was a waste of travel time to that store. However, now it’s August 2023 and I found a 2019 DSS-17 Whiskey sunset in like new condition for 1350.00 and yea, I bought it. It’s a very responsive lively guitar, I think I’m in love! It will be a great companion to my J-50. It has a very deep low end and the high end sparkles fairly well which I like . It’s kinda J-45 meets D-18 except this one has a more prominent low end growl to it compared to the D-18 or J-45. I plan to keep this one. By the way these are discontinued now so I feel rather blessed I found one at all and at the price point I did. I’m very happy with this Martin……I hope my Gibson and Guild did not hear me say that.🤣
It's very common to mic acoustics at the 12th fret, which they're doing here. I prefer a slightly different setup but this one is decent. You can see it's about 12-14 inches away which is usually the best distance.
Man, this is absolutely lovely.
I love mine with the factory monel strings. It just has its own vibe and sound.

That was an interesting comparison
I will own this soon
Did you get one
@@backyardblacksmith3090it’s beautiful
I recommend using bronze strings instead. It really brings out the notes beautifully
I've played one that had elixirs bronze strings on it, massive difference. so good.
Excellent video demonstration. I'm so glad you played this instrument fingerstyle.
Your mic is too close to the fretboard. Beautiful playing and tone. But the sound of fingers Alison strings was distracting lol
