The project focuses on function, resulting in a working water-wheel that can power an LED light panel that will allow people to see the creek at night. It doesn't need to do anything more than what it outputs. Once again, a job well done!

yea i agree this things great at what it was designed to do i mean yea u could really upgrade everything to get more power for what hes using it for its a cheap way of getting the power they need for that single led , the only thing i could see is maybe get some capacitors to regulate the flow of current looks like its pulsing quite a bit but other then that buddy did a great job in this that flickering led light would bother me after wile lol but maybe thats just me tho lol

They use water so much for electricity in Eastern Canada that people refer to their electricity bill the “hydro” (for hydroelectric) bill. Of course, you kind of need large bodies of water to power the community level turbines, and the dam/turbines aren’t totally without an ecological impact, though they try to minimize the effects on native fish, etc,

Without damaging the ecosystem, unless you take into consideration the mining of iron, copper, aluminum, and chromium and the pumping petroleum needed to manufacture the PVC.

@@iasimov5960 can use other materials, but even if PVC is what's used, it lasts for a longgg time, I think it would produce more energy than the damage it caused to make the PVC. I've seen lots of waterwheels made out of soft lumber, isn't super heavy, cheap, plenty renewable, etc, with some strapped to old car alternators. The real damage would come from having w/e amount of batteries needed to store the power when you're not using the power, with batteries you'd be able to use more power than the waterwheel is producing, and it wouldn't bog down the alternator much when drawing a decent amount of power from the batteries.

I find your video's very interesting, especially the one with the water turbine. It would be really nice to see you build an entire water turbine hooked up to enough batteries to run everything for a small cabin. It would be helpful if you could explain things like the sprocket sizes you are using, and the gear ratio. You could also include how to build a battery system big enough to run lights, refrigerator, fans and anything else that could be used for daily living. I hope you consider doing a video like thus, because many people in Canada, and the United States would really appreciate knowing how to do this in an Off Grid homestead. Please consider making such a video, you will likely get millions of views, especially if it is translated into English! Keep up the good work!

With 250 watts and a decent battery bank you'll have enough power to run 4, 5 cu ft freezers and 2 fridges , A big Side by Side and a bar fridge and 3 laptops a 38 " TV radio , and lots of lights. That's what I'm doing with 250 Watts ! Running my whole house ! Oh yeah Ive got a 3,000 watt hot water heater too ! Ive got a stream twice as big as yours , so Im going to build a big one maybe with 6 or 8 wheels ! Thanks for the video ! It was fantastic ! Great idea for a simple water wheel turbine, however a couple of improvements came to mind, firstly a waterproof housing for the actual generator, (I'd be worried that water could get into the generator and destroy it) and secondly, some sort of PVC tubing on the frame to again protect the cable from water, other than those it is a great simple design that works.

This all depends how big and meandering your stream is!
    Your example:
    - isolate the wheel from the generator, water proofing.
place the frame on a floating pontoon so it can go up and down with the river.
double, triple the size of the pads, get more torque
-attach the mechanism to a harmonium to keep a more constant smoother speed
-use (a) generator that will produce 12+V (15) so you can charge batteries of cells of at least 12V.
    ...and that is more feasible.
the problem with all of that is that you may need to build a power shack near the generator
OR you can convert the DC to AC and use wires to carry it to your facility. you still need some sort of outpost.
My stream is too puny to drive a wheel on a regular basis or even strongly enough.
I did mine differently, I use a long pipe with continuous inlets that capture the water much higher on the stream, then used the drop at the low end to acquire greater force
...and the mechanism is not even in the stream
    - if you acquire enough flow/gather more water than you use, generator tank receives more water than the generator uses, it works with a simple overflow.
That is the best because it disrupts the stream much less, and it runs 24/7 with minimum maintenance. ...and is much less subject to catastrophe when the stream is carrying junk that will obstruct everything.
    - if you can't get enough flow, it could entail a system that acts as a dam with dampers cycled with floats, uses its own power to move all the mechanics.

The concept is good, but you need a proper circuit to smooth the ac output. And obviously isolate it from the water.

Excellent vid very well done, if I may add, I would add another gear to increase your turning ratio and so the altenator will grab more of the streams power. If you haven't already. inspiring stuff.

Isn't that strange, that looks exactly like everybody's "possibles" stash! Is this guy in a back room at McMaster-Carr Supply Company? Except for that stream that looks like runoff from a fertilized rice field, I'd guess so, he has tools I never saw before. But was interesting.

I'm no expert but it seems the output is limited by the speed of water. Would it be possible to add some resistance in the device to profit from the strength of the current?

    • @harshivpatel6238

The power drwan from the generator itself acts as (physical)resistance, you'd need to make the plastic pipe fins larger to capture more power
