Total f*ckin nonsense, if you go back that number of generations to 1320 (about 30) then you would have (2^30) 1,073,741,824 ancestors. Start at 2 and double 30 times and you will reach 1,073,741,824. Most inter breading of course. Very bad broadcasting by the BBC for not telling the truth.

Not really. The abbey has been “rebuilt” many times (meaning drastic reforms to the new styles) but the builder was King St. Edward the Confessor, who’s also an ancestor of Edward III.

Anyone else notice he's also related to Thomas Cromwell, former Chancellor of England to Henry VIII? Before he fell on Henry's bad side and was beheaded for treason.

that's a rather strange commentary. no need to question about noticing it considering 10-11 mins was entirely devoted to the thomas cromwell connection (which then led to the seymour line).

I do family tree research as part of my job and I wish more folks were as down to earth and engaged with the history as Danny Dyer. Most folks who use our services are incredibly posh and entitled . You would not believe the number of people who yelled at me when I told them they aren't descended from aristocracy :(

Yes I agree, history is fascinating, it gives you wisdom and knowledge the deeper you dig, I was surprised to find my surname goes back to the Anglos, of west the Midlands, in staffordshire, it was once a kingdom called Mercia, apparently i would have been royalty of that house according to geneology but wessex and its allies in france were politically stronger and we became subjects of foreign rule, (Britain) according to history,

Well, if u are, then u too are related to Edward III. It was proven several years ago, that every single person with just 1 drop of British blood is in some way or another descended from Edward III. Its been proven impossible for any person of British blood to NOT be descended from Edward III. The only revelation here is them constructing the family tree.

I had the same reaction when i found out I was related to Scottish royalty. LOL this is the best story from this series I have watched
My mom studies our families genealogy and she suspects that Im distantly related to Robert the Bruce. I think through my paternal side. I am part Scottish.

I've been researching my family tree recently and found out that I'm a 24 times great granddaughter to Edward the 1st through his daughter Joan of Acre. Just like Danny I couldn't believe it so I went through my family tree again checking my work to see if it was wrong and it wasn't. They say if you go back far enough most of us is a descendant of royalty.

What's crazy I just thought this but back in those times what about the people alive then. Like the people then wouldn't of been related or descendants to Edward the 1st . So how could so many now then . Danny could of went back to those times and been a descendant of no royalty but went back further and then might of been .

Interesting reaction. It is estimated that over 1 million Britons are descended from William the Conquerer (that’s 1 in 60 ish) so it’s not that unusual especially if you exclude people that know their family arrived to the UK later via immigration. The hardest part is making the connection into a documented line as royal heritage is quickly forgotten after just a few generations. It would also appear that I am related to Danny as Edward III is my 16th great grandfather!

There must be hundreds of people today who are descendants of Edward III. Each generation of descendants is larger than the last.

What about the royalty back then and all the people alive back then and not connected to royalty.if everyone dome a family tree to back then wouldn't so many be related to peasants etc .what I'm saying is this is a big thing for Danny because not everyone will be related to royalty. I know exactly how he feels. I have done and redone my family tree, found every piece of information possible to make sure it was correct. Every time it comes up like his. I still can't believe it.
This series on Danny is one of my all time favorites on this channel! I felt like I was right there with him. What a lucky guy! What a lot to mull over.
My father has been doing my family tree and we are descendants of William the conqueror, Edward the 1st ect. there was also a king of Spain, a king of France and loads or knights in there. Was fascinating to see it all

I recognized some of the people in that family tree from my time doing genealogical research. It's entirely possible that it's accurate.

Studying the play Rn and I feel like I actually learned something
I found out that I was directly related to Charlemagne by way of my English ancestors who came to Virginia in the 1620s. From there, I traced my family through several English nobility, then French nobility, and eventually Charlemagne. He would be my (a large number of greats) great grandfather.
My Fleets/Fleet family are defended from Plantagenets too. My Fleets are a Virginia family based in King & Queen County.
