My goodness, you weren't kidding when you labeled this a delicious art haul! Those Flashe paints....that Book of Earth....my bank account is crying. 🙂 Can't wait to see what you do with all of this.
I’m not past the oil pastels yet, but wanted to mention this before I forget. Art Philosophy white label their watercolours from Mungyo, so they might do the same with the oil pastels? They do look very similar. Right, back to watching…
Ah, that's interesting, thanks! They're definitely very similar, though not all the colours, and textures of individual colours were the same, so not identical.
Interesting! I mean, mine definitely aren't identical, but pretty similar. I'll probably pick my favourite consistency colours from across the two packs.
@@helencryer that's what I did and I have a little travel set of them ready to go anytime. The art philosophy just feel juicier in my set overall but I swear your mungyo looked less dry than mine.
enjoying your brush experiments another RUclipsr who likes both the silver brushes and neptunes, compared them after some years use the silvers were quite worn & the neptunes looked as good as new.
Always find watching you “unpack” your art parcels delicious to the eye! I think picking out & deciding what to buy is as good ( nearly) as buying & using. Have fun, looking forward to brush or other follow up videos. Thanks
It's always fun to watch you play. When you said to let you know if we have any videos we'd like to see, a very specific request popped in my head: I'd love to watch you create a large mixed-media monochromatic loose landscape! I could see the flashe green and the liquitex hooker's green and that pale green pastel and some of your pencils and and and 😂 I think I need to go paint something! Thanks for the inspiration.
Hello! I just subscribed to your RUclips! I havent enjoyed a haul unboxing as much as yours in a long time. I just loved how you didnt rush anything and showed us everything on paper etc. I loved all that you got and your new books too! Ill be going back through your videos now. Thanks for sharing! Susan in Az❤️🏜️
Thank you for another wonderful video. I love that you swatch or play with most of the products straight away, rather than us having to wait for another video. 😊. Much appreciated. Plus it makes me feel better about the amount I spend on art supplies. Haha. 😂
Great video! Im not sure if its the same for pastels but mungyo makes that brand- art philosophy- watercolors...basically mungyo and art philosophy pan watercolors are the same watercolors. So there is a chance that mungyo also makes art philosophys oil pastels as well- especially after looking at the swatches they look identical; which makes sense since the watercolors are the same between those 2 brands as well. Alot of student grade brands white labels from mungyo unfortunately, so without having an eye to see the similarities, there is a good chance you'll keep buying the same product over and over..urrrgh. lol. Anyway I havent finished the video yet, I just paused to write this comment once I saw the oil pastel brand names and noticed they looked a lot alike in the swatches. Ill finish the video now. Thanks for sharing, much love ❤
Thank you, yes - a couple of people have mentioned the same thing - it does appear that way, though there are differences in some of the colours and consistency, but maybe that's just batch differences?
I use Amazon from France and all the Jackson’s stuff gets delivered really quickly to me here, I have most of the items you mention. Thanks for the tests though. I’m an art supplies hoarder.
oohhhh nothing better than a good art haul. i love my flashe paints so much.... i have a feeling you'll love them too!! can't wait to see what you'll do with all these new goodies. have fun!
Great products 👍. I’ve been seeing the Flashe products a lot recently. Fluorescent pink seems to be all the rage. I’d like to see you do a painting using the Flashe paints along with the large Liquitex markers. Maybe throw in some oil pastels as accents. 🎉❤😅
Thanks! Yes, me too with the Flashe paints - that's what made me curious though I've always loved fluorescent pink! I'll definitely be combining the Flashe and Liquitex soon!
That Earth book is so appealing with such beautiful colours. I know this is an older video, I'm really interested in the differences in Inktense, Luminance, Derwent's pencils and what they are good for. I'll look to see if you have already made this.
The flashe paints are really exciting! I’ve heard of them before and looked at them on Jackson’s but I didn’t quite understand them, where they sat in the paints range and if they’re lightfast etc. I’ll be looking forward to your video on them, they look lovely. And thank you for trying out all these products for us so we can see what they are and how good they are 🙂 I’m also going to get the earth book, it looks so lovely x
Thanks! I've really enjoyed playing with them today, and have uploaded a video on them. It's not totally comprehensive, but has my first impressions and some comparisons.
The Flashe paints look so delicious. The only other matte acrylics I know about are the Golden So Flat range, which are also fun. There should be more! I don't love shiny paints.
I am so glad to see you loving the Princeton Neptunes. They are always the favorite I come back to no matter what I try. Aside from those 2 sets, I would recommend one of their Dagger brushes. Once you use one for florals, you'll reach for it often! And those Misson Golds are super, aren't they? I ordered their full set direct from Korea a few years ago and then my local post office lost them locally for a month. I was so relieved when they finally arrived. I use them, Roman Szmal, and M Graham with a few select Daniel Smith mainly. But an artist and paints...enough is never enough, is it? 😂
They are just so yuummmmm! Yes, I'll definitely have to get hold of a dagger. I haven't had chance to play more with the Mission Golds yet - hopefully tomorrow! I would be so on tenter hooks waiting for them to come!!! Tell me about it - always so many more beautiful paints to try, and I haven't even got into M Graham's yet!
@@helencryerI know M Graham is probably pricey in the UK. I can get them reasonably here in the US which is why I have collected the line. As they are honey-based, they get mixed reviews in humid climates if put on a pallet. I find they have a great quinacridone line though if you are into those sheer sunset skies of color though.
I just have one - the Anthraquinone Blue (I think it's called?) and it's lovely, but yes, they're pretty pricey. I did put together a wish list of them, but couldn't justify the cost of them when I have so many other paints.
I’ve been on a deep dive looking for sponges after watching this video the other day and I wondered if you’ve tried the Sofft range that are made for panpastels. You can get from them Jackson’s and from watching a couple of RUclips videos they look like they might be similar to the ones that came with the gelatos in terms of texture and density . It seems like there’s loads of different shapes and sizes as well - I don’t think the ones that come on plastic sticks would be any good but they do lots that are just sponges on their own in different shapes. Might be worth a try?
That's so nice of you to look, thank you!! Unfortunately I have them, and whilst lovely, they are still too soft for my preference. I think I'm OK for now though with my stamping block foam inserts.
Love your hauls ❤ Tip: I have been saving the tiny single shot whiskey 🥃/alcohol bottles 🍾 I find for mixing my own colors. They look SO cool lined up on display with lots of colors. I have to add some water but it's just like DIY liquid water colors. If the labels come off, even better. I draw up me own tiny decorative labels with sticker paper I then laminate with clear packing tape. It's such fun & with so many different bottle shapes like Crown Royal, Gray Goose, Absolut, Patreon tequila, and now I'm finding mini mason jars for Apple 🍏 Moonshine. Those have wide openings so less water is need to mix your colors. Not good for single mixing paint for pans but I can still take several colors in a Molle pack for plein air work. 🎨
That DR tin is so pretty! Whenever I get a scratchy spot I file it and put a layer or two of duct tape over it in some sort of creative way, and it makes it smooth and useful again...just a suggestion in case you still want to use it for something. It would also give the bottom some grip, which might be helpful. I love tins lol, can't ever let any go if they are interesting to me. They are just so handy for so many things!
Thanks! I think it might be less scratchy spot, and more dangerous weapon at the moment! Would need a metal file, I think. To be honest though, the paints kept sticking to the lid in that one, so I won't mind having a deeper one!
Thank you for sharing that lovely shopping spree with us! I would love to see a brush review, particularly the Rosemary & Co brushes. I am looking at the Eradicator and rigger in synthetics as I don't use animal bristle :)
What a splendid haul! Can't wait to see what you do with them. I got the Mijello pure set with the same intention and have had a ball with custom mixes. QOR sells their binder-- Aquaphor-- in dropper bottles. I have added it to mixes to get the flowyness, works wonderfully. Also, I'm going to pick up the liquitex light pink in heavy body and try mixing it with matte medium, see if i can get it to flow through one of those ginormous marker paint pens. Have fun with your new toys, and happy autumn.
Ooooh - love hearing you did good mixing with them! And thanks for reminding me about the Aquazol. I'd heard of it before, but totally hadn't thought about it in this case! Happy experimenting!
What a fun haul! It was so fun watching all the swatches. If I remember correctly, I heard that Mungyo is the manufacturer of many of Art Philosopy products which they rebrand to their brand and sell at a higher price point. I have a whole 48 set of Mungyo watercolours and it has the same crumbly texture as the Art Philosopy ones and I even found the dupes for them.
I'm so happpy that you decided to spoil yourself!😉😊 And I'm also happy that you shared it with us.😊😍 Now I'm looking forward to seeing new sketches and paintings and watching you make and test your own paints!❤💞
I adore my Flashe paints, they are gorgeous to paint with. I have a few of the fluorescent colours and they are just great fun. I'm sure you'll absolutely love creating with them. It would be great if you could do a video showing how you use yours.......when you have the time of course😊 Those Mission Gold paints look lovely and the Liquitex markers look really interesting. I love a good art haul video, thank you for taking the time to share your new goodies. I'm excited to see what you produce🙏🏼 My wish list just grew a little bit longer again.......I'm not complaining btw😂
Whow everything looks so much fun! Paintinginhiding did mix her own granulating colors and put them in the same tubes you bought, so you might find her video helpful 😊 I can't wait for the swatching and painting videos using these new supplies 🥰 I also would Love to see you organize your pencils in their new cases 🥰🥰
Oh, I will have to try and find it - thanks! I've done a couple of videos so far, and have put my pencils in - I love my new pencil shelf sooooo much - may have to do a video just to show it!
Hi 👋🏻 I love your haul ! I love the Princeton Brushes! The snap looks nice! I also have the mission gold watercolor w/ the palette! I love the colors and the way they look on the paper! Have fun with your art~ 🖌️🎨
Thanks for sharing your art haul. Some really interesting things to try. I haven’t seen the flashe paints swatched before and they seem like a cross between acrylics and gouache in how they lay down. The Liquitex markers are interesting because I can see how they would be great for loose or abstract painting. Before this video I would not have considered such a large marker, but you helped me see them in a different way.
That's great, thanks! It won't be a comprehensive one, but I can definitely show what brushes I have. I'm in the middle of a big sort out at the moment, so can do a supply storage video soonish. It isn't very exciting though I'm afraid - just some cupboards in my dining room!
The book of earth looks incredible. Visually so beautiful and also seems to be full of fascinating information. there's a parcel of conservation land near where i live called 'Paint Mine'; it features a small hill with a yellow ochre deposit. you can still find small pieces of rock, break them open and there's dry yellow ochre inside. thanks for showing us your art stuff.
I like your wood slices for miniature Palettes. I sometimes take oyster shells home - or other larger shells, like scallops for take-out palettes. The color dots are protected by the natural half shell shape, and the mother of pearl serves as a non-staining mini mixing space. The smaller shells I use for individual colors and keep a bunch of them in a bag - ready to go. They sit really nicely in the palm of the hand - at least the oyster/scallop shells. But they all need to be cleaned well - with bleach if necessary - otherwise you might be reminded of that 'half dozen' in a restaurant for a looooong time....
Interesting video. I don’t have a Snap brush, but the aqua elite brushes have a good snap to them and hold quite a lot of water. Always up for a brush comparison. What would really interest me is the difference between the flash colors and acrylics. Thanks!!😁
I think overall I definitely prefer the Aqua Elite, but one advantage of the Snap brush I see so far is that it doesn't have such a pointed tip, for painting petals. I did a minimal bit of comparison of the Flashe with some acrylics, in a video I uploaded today.
Love your videos and your work. Especially how you explore and experiment with new materials, techniques and expressions of your art. Your unboxing and swatching videos are equally enjoyable and have introduced me to so many new mediums and supplies. I’ve been away from art for many, many years and have recently gotten back into it - new to and trying to learn watercolor. I just recently (as in the past couple days) found Sushma Hegde’s youtube channel and have been trying to recreate some of her loose floral bookmarks and it’s quite fun, although I’ve still got lots more practicing to do before they look anywhere’s near as nice as hers. I need to better master water control. Anyways, I didn’t realize she had a book. It looks wonderful and I’ve put it into my Amazon wishlist. I just did a big art supply purchase over the weekend so will have to wait awhile before purchasing anything more 😊. I did purchase that set of Neptune brushes you shown in the earlier video and am looking forward to their arrival. I had purchased a small set a few months back (2,, 6, 10 round and 3/4 flat wash) and really like them. Also purchased some Cotman brushes to give them a try. So thanks for another interesting video. Enjoy your new supplies and looking forward to future videos where you’ll hopefully include them.
Thank you so much! It's brilliant to hear that you're getting into art again! I hope you have a very happy journey with it, and that you enjoy all your new supplies too!
Lovely haul. I recently bought the Princeton Neptune round size 10 and it's super. Can't wait to see the lovely art you create, and the dot palettes. I'm a sucker for a tiny palette - my husband says I'm addicted to them!😂
Thank you for the suggestion! I've given it a go though, and didn't enjoy using them - I like working with something much firmer and with a less shiny surface. I'm really enjoying using sense foam, like the harder wedge sponge in Faber-Castell Gelatos. (I've not seen this video in a while, so can't remember what I mentioned in it)
Thankyou Helen - I’m beginning to approach your videos with a mixture of pleasure and trepidation! After watching one of your hauls, I want everything!😮😳 May need to consider remortgaging the house 😉 How do the water soluble oil pastels compare to the neo colour 11 - do I need both?🤔🙄
Haha, sorry! I think next year my focus will take a different course... No, I tried the water soluble oil pastels out of curiosity, but if you have the Neocolor II's, personally I don't think you need both.
Yay art haul! The new brushes look fun to play with, can't wait to see how you mix your paints. Also really liked the book, Wildflower Watercolor, the way Sushma shows the steps, it looks easy to follow. The second book also looks interesting, making your own mineral pigments and where they come from, pretty amazing. Really nice video, thank you Helen! I am curious, would you ever do an entire painting with the large acrylic pens? Just to see how it comes out, as an experiment?
Thank you!! I don't think I would do a whole painting in them, because they're harder to lay down colour with than other mediums - not as lovely and flow-y. I just want them for texture and details.
I'm looking forward to the next CF to see what good you have put these to! 😂 The seasons over now so hopefully fewer call outs and more art. Yay! See you soon hopefully. ❤xx
That was a good haul! I’ve added both books to my own wish list now - though I’ve just had my own mini haul in Arteis yesterday 😊 so they may have to wait a couple of weeks. I’d love a brush video- I have a couple of the Princeton Neptune & really like them. On the foam wedge subject, it might be worth looking in the yellow pages (if that still exists) and seeing if there’s a foam workshop anywhere nearby - they might have offcuts.
Ooo - hope you're enjoying your own goodies! Yes, they're both lovely books! My brush video won't be comprehensive, but I can at least try to compare and explain what I have.
The vinyl paint is some of my favorite paint EVER. the matte finish is great for sketchbooks. The pages wont stick together. I did notice my florescent colors dried up faster than the other colors. I have the jars. But it took a good year for that to happen.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say, Mungyo and Art Philosophy oil pastels are produced in the same factory! Like when they make biscuits in a factory - a buzzer goes off and the packaging changes from M&S to Aldi 😮 Also, I am going to need those two books, oh my - both look beautiful. I closed my eyes (well, I peeked a little) when you brought out those French paints Helen; gosh I could start a whole new obsession with those 😂
Yep - quite a few people think so. They aren't identical, though maybe that's batch differences 🤷♀️ I'm afraid they're rather lovely, and now I want all the colours!!
I won’t have time to watch until this evening after work, but I’m so excited for the Mission Gold Pure Pigment section! I have a set of those paints but haven’t tried them yet!
I have that set of Princeton Neptune brushes as well; I use them a lot! I have several Princeton Neptune, Aqua Elite, Velvetouch and Heritage… but I have never tried the Snap brushes. My local store carries Princeton brushes and frequently has them on sale (so I’m glad I like that brand lol), but I don’t think they have the Snap line. I love that idea of using the pure pigment set to make up some of your own colours!! I’ve been so tempted to try some of the alternative gouache paints that come in tubs like that, but since the idea came to me during my “low buy”, I haven’t taken the plunge.
Hi Helen...always love your videos. So enjoyable. Do you have access to Michael Harding watercolours in the UK? I've tried a couple here in Australia and they are very impressive.
Thank you! Yes - they're available in a couple of places online, but I've not tried them. I think I can only get them in sets, and they're pretty expensive.
Helen, if you look up Karen Margulis on youtube, she's a pastel painter, and uses pipe cleaner (you know, the styrofoam they put around pipes to protect them), to blend her pastels. She normally uses it in all her videos, you should take a look. Many pastel (would work well with oil pastels too) painters swear by it.
Ooooo lovely supplies ❤looking forward to the swatching of the flashe paint , thanks so much for sharing, you’ll have so much fun with all your new things xxx
Have you tried Mungyo Professional Watercolour paints? How do they compare to other professional brands please? In my country paints are extremely expensive... and Mungyo seem to be more affordable. Thanks
I think the idea is that the fewer pigments in the mix, the cleaner/purer the colour is. So if I want to do some colour mixing, I'm better off mixing single pigment colours than mixing multi pigment ones - it's less likely to produce a muddy/murky colour (ie. Some version of brown/grey which you get from mixing all three primaries). I'm fairly new to pigment and paint science myself, but think this is vaguely along the right lines!
Definitely don't use those cleaning sponges as they could release chemicals which isn't good for you or media. If you don't mind holes in your paint tin you can drill those pins out and the sharp part will probably fall off. I have all my pencils together by colour in stepped clear plastic holders as I don't have the room for cases like that to be spread out on my desk. I can easily reach for them and see them at a glance. A have a small set for the road of my favourite colours.
A great art haul! The Flashe paint looked very interesting. After a series of cheaper brushes, I’ve switched to sets of Heritage 4050 and aqua elite. Love them!
I'm a minimalist when it comes to everything EXCEPT art supplies, I swear I can never get enough Hauls are my guilty pleasure and it looks like you got so many goodies. The Mijellos have been on my wishlist forever, I absolutely love how vibrant they are!

Thanks! Yes, someone else mentioned that too - they are definitely very similar, though some of them weren't identical colours or textures.
I'm so happpy that you decided to spoil yourself!😉😊 And I'm also happy that you shared it with us.😊😍 Now I'm looking forward to seeing new sketches and paintings and watching you make and test your own paints!❤💞
Thank you so much!!
I adore my Flashe paints, they are gorgeous to paint with. I have a few of the fluorescent colours and they are just great fun. I'm sure you'll absolutely love creating with them. It would be great if you could do a video showing how you use yours.......when you have the time of course😊
Those Mission Gold paints look lovely and the Liquitex markers look really interesting. I love a good art haul video, thank you for taking the time to share your new goodies. I'm excited to see what you produce🙏🏼
My wish list just grew a little bit longer again.......I'm not complaining btw😂
Thanks so much! I made a start with them today, and the paints are wonderful (my pictures less so 🤣) Ahh - our ever expanding wish lists!!
Hello! The Mission Gold pallettes look amazing! Glad to hear you like the paints!
Yes, the Flashe paints are more liquid than my gouache paints, but have the gorgeous matt opacity of them. I think the markers will definitely be fun!
I would love a brush video! I’d also be curious to see how you store your supplies.
That sounds wonderful!! Yes, the book is just one of those special ones!
Oh that's such a nice idea!!
Hi Helen, have you tried insulation foam for pipes, you can get from B&Q or most uk diy places. It’s great for soft pastel x
I have some of that lying around - thanks! I'll try it!
I'm a sucker for a tiny palette - my husband says I'm addicted to them!😂
They're wonderful brushes, aren't they?! I think there are much worse things to be addicted to!!
@@helencryer they are indeed. Ha ha, I agree - I have a tiny 8 well magnetic walnut palette I adore - it's one of the loveliest things I own!
The Book of Earth is on my wishlist.
It's a beauty!
I saw on someone elses video that you can use a packing peanut to blend pastels. I havent tried it yet but I plan to.
For blending oil pastel use colour shapers the grey or black ones
Thanks for the suggestion! I actually am not keen on them for oil pastels - they're too slick and also flexible for me
Loved your haul! ❤🎉🎉
❤xx
Ps. Loved the video and all your goodies. Such a fun haul. ❤
Thanks Panda! One this week so far! Hope your week's going well xxx
That's so good to hear you love them! Thanks!!
I’m going to go out on a limb and say, Mungyo and Art Philosophy oil pastels are produced in the same factory! Like when they make biscuits in a factory - a buzzer goes off and the packaging changes from M&S to Aldi 😮
Also, I am going to need those two books, oh my - both look beautiful. I closed my eyes (well, I peeked a little) when you brought out those French paints Helen; gosh I could start a whole new obsession with those 😂
Yep - quite a few people think so. They aren't identical, though maybe that's batch differences 🤷♀️
I'm afraid they're rather lovely, and now I want all the colours!!
Which sharpener do you use for your colored pencils? Thanks for your video!
Hi, the Kum double hole small metal one.
I won’t have time to watch until this evening after work, but I’m so excited for the Mission Gold Pure Pigment section! I have a set of those paints but haven’t tried them yet!
I didn't really get into them much here - just tried a few out, and am really looking forwards to a proper play!
How would you say the poscas compare in sheen to the liquitex paint markers?
I just tried a couple of them side by side, and the Poscas are pretty much matt, and I'd describe the Liquitex as mid sheen.
Helen, for a quick blending alternative give those white styrofoam packing peanuts a try. Love your uploads ❤
Thanks both for your suggestions!
Exciting! x
Do you have a video where you swatch all the Flashe paints?
Hi, yes - well all the paints I have, not the whole range - as part of this video:
ruclips.net/video/4CHB-cXE2Qc/видео.htmlsi=ZDV_zWPq0Vjih_zX
Silly me, I did watch this one! Thanks!!@@helencryer
Ooooo lovely supplies ❤looking forward to the swatching of the flashe paint , thanks so much for sharing, you’ll have so much fun with all your new things xxx
Thank you!!
Have you tried Mungyo Professional Watercolour paints? How do they compare to other professional brands please? In my country paints are extremely expensive... and Mungyo seem to be more affordable. Thanks
Hi, I'm really sorry, but I haven't tried them, and don't recall coming across anyone else who has.
I’m so excited for your paint mixing project! Is that something you’d offer online? I’d love to get my hands on one!
I guess I could do! I need to come up with some nice ones first!
I’m an interior designer, and have some color theory. But, what is the significance of single pigment colors in painting?
I think the idea is that the fewer pigments in the mix, the cleaner/purer the colour is. So if I want to do some colour mixing, I'm better off mixing single pigment colours than mixing multi pigment ones - it's less likely to produce a muddy/murky colour (ie. Some version of brown/grey which you get from mixing all three primaries). I'm fairly new to pigment and paint science myself, but think this is vaguely along the right lines!
How does the paint in jars not dry up and become unusable?
I don't know, sorry - have only had them a week!
can't wait to watch.. but first coffee
🤣❤️
Ah what a great haul! I’m about to place an order on Jackson’s and this just didn’t help 😂
Haha, sorry!!
Nooo, I can’t keep buying art supplies I see on your channel 😂
Very sorry! I have to be good too now...
My daughter is 14
Loves your content
Me too. Classy channel
Thanks so much! Love this!
Thanks, I'm not!
Interesting ideas - thank you!
Long story but I got a terrible burn from one of those sponges. Obviously with water it is far more toxic.@@helencryer
Oh gosh! I will definitely get rid of them - thanks! And I hope you're OK now.
Helen I’m supposed to be buying less art supplies not more your last two videos 😥😂😂❤️
I'm so sorry! 😁 I need to be good now though...
Look at the oil pastels, the first nine are the exact same colours!! Pretty obvious that these are the same product made in a China factory
Yes, quite possibly, though the consistency wasn't the same for each of them.
A great art haul! The Flashe paint looked very interesting. After a series of cheaper brushes, I’ve switched to sets of Heritage 4050 and aqua elite. Love them!
I love the Aqua elite too, but have never tried the Heritage. How do they differ?
F!
🤣
@@helencryer Sorry, I meant to say First! I set my device to replace F! with First! But something must have gone wrong.
That is even funnier! I thought maybe you were conserving energy!
@@helencryer When you come to think of it, I sort of am!
Well, depends how many follow-up comments you have to make afterwards 🤣
