How I Made My Steelie Dash Mount ● Even Better !

- This phone dash mount is great for holding your phone at any angle you choose and your phone won't move even while going over hard bumps! I modified the phone mount so it is slimmer than the original mount design.

Been using a Steelie for about 5 years now and, THIS is an awesome idea! Strange thing is, after watching this great video, I looked up replacement adhesive pads on Home Depot's site and, this is actually a suggested installation method for thin/flimsy cases. Never saw it!
I'm weirded out to know that you never made bad videos.
Good job
I’ve used these a couple years and never thought of this. Earned a rare sub and rarer like from me!
Since making this video I have discovered an even better mount from the same company. It works even better. Thanks for the sub!! If you go to this link, you'll see my video. It's one of the 3 videos. amzn.to/3FUGvUO
What an outstanding idea! Bravo!
Since making this video they’ve come out with a better product. Check out “steelie orbiter”.
Did that to mine a few years ago but I tapered the hole and it’s mounted to the inner cover on a 2 layer case and not the phone. I also made my own mount with a ball bearing that’s bigger than the steelie mount . It has a lot more grip . Love the steelie but you have to be careful where you stick it . Stuck it to my Jeep bumper once and didn’t remember when I went to the store ,came home and remembered. It was still there.
Can't believe I've never thought of this, absolute Genius. Back at you, if it ever does move on rough roads, get the magnet for a tablet. Bigger and stronger, but not too big.
I've been using the steelie for years and it is the best that I've come across. My friends won't even listen to me and complain that their phones keep falling off while they're driving. I drive a semi and my phone never falls off. Well worth the initial $40 purchase and then you can add on with other stuff with it too. They also have a tablet steelie and works great.
So far I'm amazed at how easily it moves on the ball and yet over bumps it doesn't move a bit!! Thanks!
I love this channel because you are honestly just the most wholesome man and I love all your little tips. I hope your channel gets more popularity because you deserve it.
Wow! Thanks for that great compliment!!
could you do a video on fixing the hole drilled in the kitchen table next? and get hiedi to help..?
Ramen Noodles and crazy glue
Love the way Chris go as far as to show the experiment in real life!!
I discovered this mount a couple years ago and love it!
I love it when he does the offloading bit and shows how it handles, good job
Great video Chris, I really appreciate how you make all your content clear and concise and I’ve yet to see you post something which wasn’t a good idea 👍 I’m sure there’s a lot of effort which goes in to getting your videos to be as well filmed and straight to the point, so thank you for what you do.
That is great feedback!! I really appreciate your take on it!
Without a doubt the best mount alive !
Definitely getting one. Will go through your link for it.
Nice review!
Nicely done!
Been using this since it first came n absolutely love it.
liked it way more than expected
Just bought one. Good idea. Thanks.
Great Idea! Quick solution! I had been trying to use it with my silicone case with no luck (adhesive won’t stick to silicone cases). Drilling the hole and sticking it directly to the phone did the trick! Thx
Wow, what a great idea!
I was going to buy the metal plate adapter, but this makes way more sense. Well done!
Damn that's a great idea. Well done.
Very cool! Will check link!
What a wonderful neighbor u must be! !
Underrated comment
Hey! Great video. Well done.
I'm a big Nite Ize fan and loved your flush mount idea.
Thanks! Subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
Very good. Many people have thin cases, so I have a plan B. You also buy one of those other type of cheap mounts, cut off the vent clips on it, and attach that little magnet to the cheap mount.
Nice modification you made to make the mount have a lower profile!
I was always a little apprehensive of the magnetism near my phone... However these concerns instantly evaporated when Chris endorsed this concept! Thank you!
Says right on the pack it does not affect your phone in any way.
Great videos :) Also enjoyable! I use a metal plate in the back of my case.
You Sir, are the FOOKIN man !
That’s clever 👍🏽👍🏽
bought a similar kit from steelie but its the dash mount with grip as it will be a physical grip around your phone so you dont have to stick anything to your case. hope it works just as good
That’s a awesome mod
I didn't think about drilling a hole I just might get one now thanks
always listen to Heidi!
You are so clever it's like my brain said tada I could of thought of that idea. Um nope so thanks so simple and useful !
I should tell you since making this video they have come out with an even better set up!! Check out the "Steelie Orbiter". Works incredibly well with no cutting. amzn.to/3Z45wof
@Chris Notap Thanks I will check it out.
Could you please make a video dedicated to all the different ways to hold up different electronic devices? Thanks!
I see you have a Rav4. Would it work on the metal trim above the vent (to the left of the emergency flasher button)? I'd like to mount it higher than where you have it. Thanks. I enjoy your videos. They're well done, informative and to the point.
That's not metal, it's plastic and yes it should work. It has about the same curvature as the surface where I placed mine. You may want to hold it up there first to see if you can tilt it down far enough to view it properly. If it doesn't work there, just use fishing line or tooth floss to "saw" it off under the base. Then just use your finger to roll the adhesive off the dash piece.
@@chrisnotap I’m late to the game, but wanted to know, I too have a RAV4 and the directions say that it’s not recommended to stick the Dash Mount on “textured vinyl or faux leather surfaces.” How well or long did the mount last where you placed it in this video?
Please tell me what kind of drill you used to make that whole and where I can get one. Can I use it to make a hole in my wall for a hook to go into and hang a plant from my ceiling? Thank you
But that magnet has demagnetized many credit cards and other cards with magnetic strips on them...do you have a hack for that besides keeping phone far away from the cards? Is there a cap that can fit over the magnet that would not demagnetize the cards?
Will the phone charge on a wireless pad ? I tried a magnetic mount on my ( LG) phone & it would not charge with the metal disc on the back of the phone.
I have a galaxy and the wireless charged worked for me, but I still took my phone out of the case to charge it on my wireless charger.
Great gadget. How easy is it to remove the magnet stuck to the iPhone ?
Use tooth floss or fishing line. Have someone hold the phone and slide the floss back and forth under it. Once it's off use your finger to roll the adhesive off.
Hi chris
Is the magnet going to interfere with gps or cell strength? 🤷🏼♀️ cool idea.
Says on the box that it does not affect the phone.
Absolutely love this mount and have used them for a long time. Only problem is I got a thin wallet case and the magnet destroyed 3 credit cards.
Have you tried using "wallet" on your iPhone ? That is if you have an iPhone. I use it and you don't need to carry your credit card. I have my debit card and Mastercard on it. There is no need to have more than those 2. Points cards are just to keep you coming back and makes life complicated. Works flawlessly. Tap works great.
@@chrisnotap unfortunately I use a Galaxy Note and I only keep one card and my License in it.I have Google pay,Walmart pay and Samsung pay buy very few places accept them.Im trying to figure out a remedy that will allow me to keep using this case and the phone mount because both are perfect
I really liked this product review until I saw this comment. I carry couple cards in my phone case too.
What size was that drill bit you used
Can you do the same smoking experiment with light cigs to see the difference of the two
it’s not a “special” proprietary magnet with a specific magnetic field. it’s a circle magnet with a slight chamfer that makes it look nicer but isn’t necessary to function the way it does with a smear of latex or whatever to cushion the impact of the steel ball against the magnet.
a chrome plated steel ball bearing a a magnet is the best part of $30, which is outrageous.
you can get a pack of 3 rare earth circle magnets in the same dimension from home depot for about $5. less anywhere online.
the ball bearing in chrome is what, a dollar? maybe?
i know this because i’m the moron that spent $30 on this from the recommendations of people to open the package and see the magic beans i was sold.
the mount does work very well..
but don’t be stupid and spend that much money for something you can easily make yourself for way less.
you can use a washer if you want instead of the magnet. some people might not want a magnet on their phone, so put the magnet on the dash instead and the washer will still stick and have full mobility.
Yeah I noticed that too when the chrome wore away. It’s pricey for what it is but a lot of people don’t mind for the convenience. However I wish I would of invented this easy concept invention.
Just a headsup...any apps that rely on the compass in the phone to orient never worked the same after putting that strong magnet on my phone. I still use it though. Another tip, just a standard neodymium magnet (the ones shaped similar to z garden hose washer work just as good, if not better because they are flat and much cheaper than extra oem magnets.
I've used the compass and it seems to work fine.
@@chrisnotap Works fine on my girlfriend's phone, and not on my old phone. New phone works fine now. Was just a headsup for anyone so they could hold it on their phone and test before they stick it permanently. Moving location a little on my new phone and it works fine.
There are plenty of magnet holders where you have a small metal plate that sits between your phone and phone case. And they click into your vent.
Yes but they have almost zero adjustability.
@@chrisnotap Agreed, mine can only adjust the angle horizontally.
I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. It’s to heavy for the standard size Steelie magnet so I got the larger size one. Now it is to strong and every week or so, the ball mount comes lose and I have to get a new adhesive pad. Any ideas on how to fix my problem?
Hello, we're sorry you're having trouble with your Steelie mount. Please check that you are mounting it to a hard surface on your dash (not leather or faux leather), and that you are allowing the adhesive to cure for 24 hours before use. If you are still having trouble, please feel free to reach out to our customer service department.
@@NiteIzeInc is it glued to hard plastic on the dashboard
Found you through Daily Dose of Internet. No regrets 👌🏾
Cool! Can you send me the link....
You can email it to me if you like to chrisnotap@gmail.com Thanks!
The Fastball mount is way better. Plus, I also use Magnet Source neodymium quarter size magents to stick my devices anywhere. I also have the magnets glued to the back of several ball side phone mounts giving me a flat and a swivel connection. The Steelie grip area is just toos small to hold my large phone in place in my semi truck.
Interesting. Thanks.
👍👍
Bro I thought my car drove rough 😂
Same case as me
Does the magnet effect your iPhone?
No.
you say this isn't a paid promotion, but a small portion of each sale helps your channel? which one is it?
Do you think wireless charging will work with this installed?
Good question. I can't answer that.
I will contact the company and find out. Hold tight
The company said to check with the charger manufacturer or in their owners manual to see if you can can have any mounting devices on your phone during charging.
Not a good idea to have a phone low in the dash area, its a distraction with no view of the road. Best to get something that mounts on dash just above steering wheel. Number of ideas on Toyota forums for your Rav4, and other makes. Simple $5 clamp model that looks like a huge clothes pin I use, and it was not perfect, but I hot glued some foam and now works well. You can improve it your way and make a video, I am sure. Great videos btw!! I sub-ed!
Is that a rav 4 car? My parents have one
Yup! They are great!
@@chrisnotap they have an awesome look too!
Heeeeeeeey Heidi
You should make a video with smoke thingy but only weed no rolling papers i wonder what will happen
Do a cigar vs cigarette
My biggest concern with this is having the mount directly on the glass back of the phone, and having it stick out, could likely mean dropping it may break the back glass. What do you guys think
Of course it will break the back glass on your phone. Looks like a good idea but you are correct they will break back glass easily. The guy needs to talk to Heidi again.
What you doin tonight Heidi
they should let it come with a drilled case
Hii
Hey Chris, does the magnet affect the phone in any way with it attached to the back directly. Great video review and your friend is hot 😍😍😍😍
Steelie says that it does not affect the phone in anyway. I will pass that on to Heidi!!
Hey Chris, if I gave you my phone # could you please forward it to Heidi? 😉
Unfortunately she is spoken for!
Heidi be fine
WHY WOULD YOU DRILL THROUGH YOUR OTTERBOX????
He explained that in the video.
Wait the little part goes on your phone? 🤣
I actually got one for my wife and she loves it. But because it stuck out it wouldn't sit right on her night stand. So I got a carriage bolt, nut and washer and inserted them into a hole in a piece of walnut. I then added another piece and a chain to keep it open and made her a stand that sits at about 45 degrees so she can use it like a alarm clock.
Magnets are so bad for your phone
Edit : great quality videos
Actually it says right on the pack that it will not affect any phone.
Chris Notap I said that becaise I had a phone case with two magnets that caused some problems with the sensors and I couldn't receive calls, I think that's why the case was thick
What iphone is that?
Docurizer iPhone 7 or 8

Can you do smoking weed for 1 month before after

You didn’t modify the mount. You modified your case to accommodate the phone mount better.
I modified how I mounted it.
