    How many guitars does one need? A simple formula
    f = the optimal number of guitars
    x = your current number of guitars
    Then F = x + 1
    Love your work Kiko! Thanks for all the content.

    You need different guitars because they all have their strengths. There is also the issue of variable tunings. You may have several songs with different tunings you have to cover in a set. Joni Mitchel is known for this. I find that I go through phases regarding the sort of tones I want. Sometimes I want to hear all humbuckers 24/7. Other times I get more into a stratty single coil tone. One of my favorite players, John McLaughlin has used a wide array of instruments and was one of the first players to exploit the power of midi. Always keep it fresh. Sometimes I play one of my Ovations for a month before I go back to electric. It's great to have different guitars on hand. Also, if you play guitar you should also learn piano, vice versa, not because you expect to be a virtuoso on both, but because they are sort of mirrors of each other. If you don't want to buy a full grand or upright get an electric piano or a good keyboard like a Korg, Nord, Roland or Yamaha, with 88 keys.

    I understand why you prefer talking about music than gear. For you, guitar is a tool for making music. Off course you have to understand it to a certain degree. But the music is the priority and then you choose which guitar and gear can make that music. I believe all professional guitarist have mindset like that. Some guitarist is also a guitar and gear nerd. Pete Thorn and Mark Tremonti are just a few example.

    hey, guitar-hero Kiko. From a music theory & technique standpoint, could you compare guitar to piano? I ran across a great modern music text published by O'Reilly which compared, in detail, Piano(Keyboard) vs Guitar, for example: Piano can use all 10 fingers for chordal voicings, Guitar can use only 4 (maybe 5); Piano can play cluster harmony, on Guitar it is difficult or impossible; Piano is difficult to play repeated notes, Guitar is very easy to play repeated notes especially with pick ; Piano can't strum chords, Guitar can strum chords naturally; Piano can play melody with accompaniment (overlapping rhythms), Guitar can not; Piano is difficult or very difficult to transpose, Guitar is very easy to transpose especially with capo, etc. In a musical contest of playing ever more complex permutations of a Themes & Variations, which player would win, the Pianist(Keyboardist) or the Guitarist? Of course you can guess which one I will bet on ( 🎸! ).

    • @Joao-py6rj
      @Joao-py6rj 2 года назад +2

      piano is much better to explore theory, but guitar wins in terms of expressiveness and singularity. I think it's important to learn piano as a second instrument (if you're not a pianist, of course), because you can have a point of view that you'd never have in the main instrument

    • @superblondeDotOrg
      @superblondeDotOrg 2 года назад +1

      @@Joao-py6rj that is a common opinion "piano is best to learn/practice theory" but keep in mind that ALL theory books are written by Pianists and I have never found a theory textbook written by a guitarist (and is guitar-centric).. There should be no reason why theory directly on the Guitar neck is harder to learn.. In fact the patterns on the Guitar neck are far easier to learn than Piano patterns (scales or chord shapes) because of the need for the black keys, etc.. So Yeah it is a common opinion but not actually proven that Piano is "best" for theory study. Not to mention that Piano is a seriously rapidly-declining instrument to own (look up sales of pianos since 1900's) and acoustic Pianos are very rare in homes due to their size and upkeep cost (continual tuning expense and purchase price $5000+) whereas Electric Guitar is the #1 selling instrument for decades now, and very inexpensive, $200 guitar can be used professionally. Taylor Swift sells more guitars now (in the hundreds of thousands) through her own direct artist influence & fanbase than ALL pianos sold across the entire Piano industry.. (look up quotes from Fender CEO on this).

      Hey thx for the replies. Yeah I missed that video where Kiko discusses strings & picks. He did mention 10-52s when in D standard. Well, the more guitars the better so you can have different tunings/gauges for each eh!

    Angus young has only used the one sg for all ac/dc records. Also, Brian May made his guitar with his dad when he was 17.

    Inspiration , well said Kiko. Classical guitar for neighbours, electric for the crowd. Good advice Life coach 👊. Any possibility on Vai or Satriani influence ? Master Steve Vai's latest one arm song is awesome 🤘✌️ Thanks Kiko 🇦🇺

    Are you always 100% happy with your guitars? I have 4 guitars and my main one I play is a custom shop strat. I use it most and love the way it plays, but I’m never 100% happy with any. I always find something to tweak or change. And fret buzz kills me.Does that happen to you?

    Hey Kiko, I discovered you around 2008 when I was really getting into guitar and diving into advanced techniques, which brought me to your 8 Finger (Piano Tap) Technique you used with Angra and on your No Gravity Solo Album
