it was great I'm glad to see young people playing our music and yes I am a professional Latin player and the most important thing is enjoyment so if these young musicians are having fun then great. as musicians we keep growing and learning and other musicians can guide these young people no need for negative criticism keep up the good work.
Thank you David! This video was a project for the recording majors and we were glad to play this chart for their project. We've all graduated now and most of us are still performing music!
Que mucho critican pero tan mal no estaban tenian swing, estan tocando un genero musical que no es de ellos bastante bien lo tocaron sigan pa lante greetings from Puerto Rico.
These were University students @ Middle Tennessee State University not a show band so people need to give them a break they picked a piece of music and played it well
Good job MTSU. What we need to understand is this is a college where students are honing their craft. There is no need to compare the performance to professionals who make playing music as their livelihood. I see enthusiasm and the love of Latin jazz. An educational institution that is encouraging and exposing students to various musical styles.
In general, it was very good for me since I did not see any Latin people playing. The percussion is weak and that is a key in any kind of music, but in the Latin it is essential. The percussion is what ignites and gives it that flavor, be it Latin jazz, salsa, etc. The cuts in the percussion were good also the wind section. But the base: bass, piano and percussion lacked aggressiveness so that the band played with more emotion and more flavor. But in general I give it 85%. I congratulate you guys, keep going 👍🏽.
+fausto104 thank you! This group was actually a salsa band class while attending Middle Tennessee State University. Most of us are graduated and doing other bands/projects now. I wish though, I loved playing with this group!
@@ElliottWittstruck if you have the Music score and the Music sheets, you can hire other profesional musicians to play other performances. I do in that way. My name is Carlos Oyarvide and I am Bachellor in Music. Greetings and blessings from Ecuador.
Thanks for the upload. What appears to me: 1. The timing and skills of all the musicians is good. 2. This performance does not meet the title "Hot and Heavy". It comes at me as soft , ho-hum, follow the script, it has no passion, the bass is weak, it does not push me,now my solo, then his solo, then the next solo, ho-hum, yawn, ho-hum, zzzzzzzzzzzzz 3. It is like when I open a door and only a soft breeze flows toward me. 4. When i went to latin jazz clubs and dances, the band was blowing and made me want to buy a ticket and get inside quickly, 5. This performance is like when I open the door, out comes ho-hum and I close the door and go back to what i was doing before. HOT AND HEAVY IT IS NOT!
+TheBdd4 Sorry you feel that way. It was very fun to play at the time. This was recorded for the purposes of the audio majors to get their final projects. The song was arranged by Sonny Bravo and purchased I believe. We had a blast playing it though!
+Elliott Wittstruck dont listen to that fool... Everybody always got something to say. Yes there were some little timing things some places but over all very good guys! Keep pushing man!
+ijustplaybass af .) Dear bass player, please reread my comment number 1. I did not criticize their timing. Secondly since you know nothing about me you are inaccurate when you call me a fool. Obviously you and I are influenced differently by this performance. You enjoyed it, I did not. I have a long history with latin jazz. I played bass and congas. I am an electrical engineer.. Please think before you release your criticism of others. One group, the Taliban don't, thus all who differ with them are worthy of death. Is their view of others also correct?
+Elliott Wittstruck Kudos to you for your kind response. My observations were given just as my honest response to your performance compared to many very hot live latin jazz performances I have been privy to. I played bass and congas but neither as a pro. Please listen to performances by Tito Puente, Clare Fischer, Mongo Santamaria, Cal Tjader, Willie Bobo, Ray Barretto and view the many fine artists featured on congahead dot com. From these you'll have a front seat at "Hot and Heavy". Keep searching, you'll find "it".
The original recoding is a bit more up tempo that's why it feels a bit dragging. I have it at home and used to play it in a live band myself. Other than that, great effort.
Orlando Gonzalez @ Not at all. It's never too much sax on salsa. As a matter of fact, we need more sax players in Salsa Band. Saxophone is not only a romantic sounding instrument, but definitely an instrument that blends in nicely in all styles of music.

this is why americans shouldn't be allowed to play salsa

Not sure. Our professor, Lalo Davila purchased it for us and we played it. Sorry
Bravo

Muito bom! Poderia disponibilizar o arranjo?
Great!!!! :)
Pretty good Latin Jazz.
Great recording ...kudos to the mixing engineer. I would be interested in how he panned that large of an ensemble ...Its very clean!!!
+Jay L78 We did horns and rhythm sections separately if that helps at all.
You guys should come play in New York.

I think their body movement tells the story.
Makes me want to eat salsa :P maybe I'll play this while I make it

+TheBdd4 nobody asked for your vita, mr. important. who cares?
The brass section is tight.
Very good and very sabroso
HAHA YES!! DCI Timbal player!
Haha! Just a musician that has multiple musical outlets =P Thanks for watching!

Conga/bongo too low in the mix for me, but nice job for MTSU overall!!
El vídeo está corrido con la música :v
Not hot and heavy but nevertheless a very enjoyable performance.
put more feeling into it
Nice. But salsa is a very difficult rhythm to play. Piano player was kind of behind the beat most of the time.
que mal que los pario,,, hacen play back,, en solo de saxo se nota , respira y el saxo sigue sonando,, muy mal
Bass player don't feel it.
Too much sax for salsa
