One of those o2 sensors is an aem wide band sensor and you’ll need that for the tune to run properly likely. Also you need to find out if it’s been e85 tuned which is highly likely based on what I see.
Wonder what's been done to it and how much power it's even making, don't know much about these cars, but the comments here are definitely spelling out the fact that they're a tuning/mod heaven.
The standard Evo 8, 9 and X had a 5 speed trans. The MR edition had a 6 speed. The 5 speed was known to be a stronger transmission than the MR 6 speed though.
This is actually a good purchase at that price. You'll have a pretty well sorted Evo for 15k. Beyond on the cosmetic issues, most of the mechanical stuff is pretty simple and these cars are reliable if you keep them under 500 hp
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
The fact you got 20 likes while quoting the same joke everyone else has for 20 years, while getting the quote wrong like everyone else, is really sad. It's "a motec systems exhaust"
I lived without a car for about a year. My apartment was across the street from a grocery store, and I used the bus to commute. But if I wanted to visit family etc I'd rent a car from Enterprise since they'd come to my apartment to drop off a rental and I could take it back to them and they'd drive me home. I'd always ask for a small car, but one time they said they'd lend me an Evo (automatic) at the same price because I'd been a good customer, always returned cars in perfect shape, and they wanted to hold some smaller, cheaper cars for the holidays. I'd be driving it and at a stop light when the light went green, I'd touch the accelerator and that thing would fly. It really took me by surprise at first. And then people were trying to get me to race them at stop lights. Very fun to drive and way more power than the weight of the car could handle without taking care. :)
A small bit of good news: the fuel door spring clip you need is only $7 on Amazon and you can replace that yourself in about 5 minutes. I just did that on my Outlander, and it's the same part on the Lancer/Evo. Most wear parts on this platform are relatively cheap.
Good luck, Tyler. I experienced the same issue with my Mercedes S65. Luckily, I had flown out to the dealer, took the car to the Mercedes/Maybach/AMG dealer for a PPI and took pictures of the car the day before it was loaded on the truck. There were several dings and damage to the car…predominantly from unloading and reloading the car between Ohio and California. Because all documentation was done on a tablet, the driver demanded me to “initial” the bill of lading and call the office with any noted damage. I took pictures of all damage and brought a witness with me to the truck stop where he did the drop. As I suspected, he denied ever removing it from the truck during shipment and any damage to the vehicle. I knew this to be a lie because his last stop had been to LA to pick up a bunch of lease return Teslas, which were bound for Fremont. Because I had paid for the vehicle at the dealership prior to loading of the car…the dealer suggested the shipper used and I paid for shipping via the dealer. This, and the diligence I took with pictures in both Columbus and in California, allowed me to file a claim with my insurance and the insurance went after the shipper to be reimbursed. It wasn’t big damage, but it was still $3+ k for the repairs.
"The Spirit of Competition" was Mitsubishi's motorsports slogan for much of the 90's to early 2000s much alike to Mazda's "zoom zoom". Still better than the "Drive @ Earth" they did after.

I worked at a dealership back in 2012 when these cars were relatively new. The Middle Easterner Owners did not give a fluk about any cars. Drove like they were still over there lol! The owners left before us cause we had dead batteries or something.. So we knew he’d call if there were any speed traps. We beat the crap out of those cars on the way back 😂😂. I was in front when we hit the highway and I got scared slowed down he passed me, then once we got off the highway on the back roads it was dusk and we were coming out sideways at every intersection!! The Cadillac had like 550HP 6 speed and the super charger would roar on off the straight but Dewayne drove the heck outta That AWD Evo and I couldn’t keep up on any turns from a stop or a sharp curve. We were together till the last 10 miles or so. He was already smoking a cigarette drinking a Twisted Tea when I pulled in the back dirt lot sideways. lol I didn’t really have the money anyway, I wanted to buy that Evo so bad but it was pre-sold. In the USA you call them Miata but in the UK known as MX5. As Japan is right-hand-drive, used MX5s are imported into the UK in their 1,000s each year and instantly sold.
The ricardos weren't an option. They were standard and only the 2015s didn't come with them because they didn't want to re crash test the car for the new regulations. The previous owner sold the seats and put stock lancer seats in.
Many car magazines of the day reported them as the best seats ever made and should be in every car, especially the Corvettes of that era with their floppy bobble head seats.

I love my Evo X, it's worth fixing and saving. Good thing is there is enough of an enthusiast market so you can find lots of parts for it and the aftermarket parts are often cheaper and better than OEM. Also that AWD warning light usually means a problem with the AYC pump. That can be a few grand to replace, but I'd start by bleeding the system and checking for leaks. They AYC pump can also be rebuilt to save some money.
Or just use the leverage of 1.5 million subscribers and threaten them to disclose their business. It may be a little shitty to do, but it's shittier to break something someone paid thousands for and not be honest and dump it on them.

So happy you finally got an EVO hooptie. I've had a 'bare bone' 2009 Lancer so not AWD or turbo but manual for 10 years, its now has done about 210,000 km (130k miles) here in Australia where the bare bones sedans are plentiful. Mine has no major issues but a few things to now sort like a leaking sump and CV boots. The EVO 10 is around $50k here for a good one where are the bare bones can be had for $10k still in good condition. A few things to note, on the dash the button to go through the screens if you have a warning hold the button will clear it to get the main screen with temp gauge and fuel level. There is a big community of support for the Lancer and EVO, can't wait to see it back to its best, I would love an EVO but out of my budget right now for a used car.
Wow that’s so funny I must have been scrolling Carvana at the same time! Just got a 2017 Lancer SEL in November! Would’ve loved an Evo but it was a little out of my budget. Found a fully loaded, top trim, final year, one owner no accidents on Carvana and couldn’t believe it. Even came with an OEM Factory installed roof rack! Hope to keep my new found treasure for years to come :)
Miss my EVO so much! Bought new in late 2013 (2014 model) and sold in 2024 for $27k. Near mint condition (a few rock chips), under 50k miles and all stock. I guess it’s all good, now I drive a 2024 C8.
I have an '11 GSR and have some insight and recommendations: It looks like your Evo came with the SSS package (Sight, Sound, Spoiler), believe it or not, that high-rise spoiler was actually an option initially, but the demand for the larger spoiler was so high that they eventually made it standard. Your headlights look like they are replacements as the first "S" in SSS would set you up with adjustable HID lights, the knob for them is located below the trim left of the turn signal stalk...unsurprisingly these HID headlights are not cheap either which is likely why they were replaced with halogen housings. Your AYC is most certainly the culprit behind the drivetrain error. Not cheap (~$2000), consider getting a relocation kit (~$450) which will relocate it into the trunk once it's resolved. They're notorious for failing due to exposure to the elements and salted roads. They can also be removed/bypassed which will lose the magic of the car's cornering ability. Fun fact, every vent and bit of aero on this car is actually functional, the sole exception being the driver side fog-light ( both sides also missing) vent; the passenger side fog-light vent cooled the oil cooler. It's also worth running the transmission "cocktail", it may help with the slight grinding in your shifts. These cars are so much fun and rewarding when they're running right, and I hope you get to enjoy this one once some of the mechanical issues are sorted.
My wife still drives a 2002 lancer. 😂 It. Won't. Die- btw.. I know you loved your grandma. I just lost my last grandparent 2 days ago. He was 92. You should have seen his cars, big Cadillacs
My 2003 Lancer also refuses to die, I bought it 20 years ago and it's been extraordinarily reliable. Even drove Florida to California 2600 miles with absolutely no issues.
Hold the little info button on the left hand side of the steering wheel to check the engine temp and it shows a few other things, my old man has a 2010 outlander and loves it
Fuel door should be a quick fix, a plastic clip in the fuel door needs to be replaced/installed. I had one break on me and while waiting for a new one to arrive I pulled up on the fuel door lever and shoved a rag underneath to keep it up, then went to the fuel door itself to flip it open.
The rag is a great tip! I was stuck at the gas station recently, and my 4-year-old son offered to help -- the perfect assistant to hold the lever up while I pry open the door with a credit card.
Make sure you don't do any launches with that Evo. They are notorious for launching diff pins through the transmission. Sometimes youll hear the pin rubbing the case from the inside as it lathe through the transmission case.
As a previous Evo X owner. These are one of the funnest most reliable cars I've owned. Bigger turbo, on ethonal was a blast and it never let me down. Owned it for 6 plus years. 15k miles to over 100k miles. Replaced it with an Evo 8 however about 2 years ago.

He daily drove it for about 20 years so it hasn’t been sitting, and whatever it needed it got. I’ve just been cruising and enjoying it, and fixing some random odds and ends (blower motor, trunk struts, minor trim pieces needing re-clipping). @ uncle bought it new, so I got the family discount 😂 and at the time it had 215,000 miles. But it’s a well maintained and cared for 215, so I trust it more than most used cars out there
Likely This car was tuned on e85, you need to either find out or put a stock ecu in there. If you run 93 in a car that’s tuned for e85 you’re gunna have a bad time if it doesn’t have a proper flex fuel sensor. How bad it’s running leads me to believe it was an e85 tuned car and there’s 93 or worse in there now.
Hay Tyler. You should isolate the Car Wizard's laughter at the end of the video (35:22). And use it as a canned sound effect when you try to start a hoopty that isn't starting. Because that's the sound you will hear when you try to repair the issue
Just from the description here - the o2 sensor came off the exhaust system one way or another, and once its warm its got the ecu to flick to full rich mode coz all it can see is oxygen

My guess is it's an engine swap
One of those o2 sensors is an aem wide band sensor and you’ll need that for the tune to run properly likely. Also you need to find out if it’s been e85 tuned which is highly likely based on what I see.
Wonder what's been done to it and how much power it's even making, don't know much about these cars, but the comments here are definitely spelling out the fact that they're a tuning/mod heaven.
The standard Evo 8, 9 and X had a 5 speed trans. The MR edition had a 6 speed. The 5 speed was known to be a stronger transmission than the MR 6 speed though.
Call the shipper out! People need to know if they should avoid them

I thought you said strippers, not shippers. That would’ve been one interesting video.
Same and I'm more disappointed than I should be.
It's a recurring problem in his garage, they break in over night looking for customers and end up ruining the cars with their high heels
Strippers tugging on his pipe would make a different video indeed
This isn't a Rabbit (RIP) video.
"... butt implants?"
This is actually a good purchase at that price. You'll have a pretty well sorted Evo for 15k. Beyond on the cosmetic issues, most of the mechanical stuff is pretty simple and these cars are reliable if you keep them under 500 hp
I guarantee it needs a new engine
The Evo IX was the last great one for me.
Exactly
That's my second car, fully built, running e85, 440hp, nothing touches me in the canyons 👍
This should be fun to watch! I sold my fully built Evo final edition last year. Absolutely loved it! When it ran….
Daniel Son & Wizard double teaming Hoovie on the Ferrari bill .... class.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
You should be going to MIT or something.
The fact you got 20 likes while quoting the same joke everyone else has for 20 years, while getting the quote wrong like everyone else, is really sad.
It's "a motec systems exhaust"
Ahhh, the rare find--a Japanese hooptie. Glad to see Hoovie at his roots.
"It sounds like Black Ice air freshener to me" may be one of Car Wizard's greatest lines haha fantastic!
I love Hoovie walking around saying this is wrong, that is wrong, this is broken but it’s not that bad…this thing has to be mechanically totaled. It’s going to cost a fortune to get this thing straight.
I got an 08 Evo X too, all i can i say is Good luck and check the AYC pump too.

@RJsCave Well no it's not, because like he said. It's not a Subaru. That's only a subie thing
@@tacticalmattress I know, relax. With everything hoovie was saying that was wrong with this car it was sounding very abused subaru like to me and I made a joke. You know, h u m o r. You should get a sense of it some time.
When I was in Automotive School one of the teachers said this was the only car he’s ever seen that destroyed itself when it wasn’t even running. Good ol Lancer.
Subie Guy approves this comment. 😉👍
A JDM car??? It looks so strange and out of place in the hooptie garage
I love it
Not a JDM car since this version of the car was sold in the US. This car is a USDM Evolution XI
JDM would be RHD
I worked at a dealership back in 2012 when these cars were relatively new. The Middle Easterner Owners did not give a fluk about any cars. Drove like they were still over there lol!
Me and A childhood friend were doing two pickups from an Auction. About a hour from the Dealership, he Drove a dark Blue Evo and I Drove a black Cadillac 6 Speed CTS-V back.
He was already smoking a cigarette drinking a Twisted Tea when I pulled in the back dirt lot sideways. lol
I didn’t really have the money anyway, I wanted to buy that Evo so bad but it was pre-sold.
R.I.P Swayne
In the USA you call them Miata but in the UK known as MX5. As Japan is right-hand-drive, used MX5s are imported into the UK in their 1,000s each year and instantly sold.
It's a Mitsubishi Evo though
The ricardos weren't an option. They were standard and only the 2015s didn't come with them because they didn't want to re crash test the car for the new regulations. The previous owner sold the seats and put stock lancer seats in.
Recaro
Many car magazines of the day reported them as the best seats ever made and should be in every car, especially the Corvettes of that era with their floppy bobble head seats.
Daniel son just casually dropping $1000 fixes with a smile. Hilarious
The "shark wing" is factory equipment.
Depended one which power level you bought, at least in the EUDM.
Actually - from the first view of the shark fin array….that looks like aftermarket set, the factory ones had a change in angle from centerline.
If it is OEM, only on the "FQ400" models, I believe
@@starfox_wr-45e93 I’d need to check the promo stuff, but I think the 360 got it as well. The 400 was wild to drive (I had to shift it between two of our branches) and you definitely bought it for the experience, not the comfort or build.
I always felt they were more hedgehog than shark.
I love evrything about that Mitsubishi - Apart from the bits that are wrong... The cars are beautiful in every detail.
PS Hoovie, thanks for bringing The Wizard to world attention. It was a fantastic thing to have happened. Massive kudos to both of you.
PPS Publish the name of those cheating, dishonest, cack-handed shippers.
Hoovie getting access to dealer auctions was the best thing to happen to this channel
I seriously thought that sticker on the hood said "The Spirit of Constipation"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣good one
I’ve never thought you’ll get around to my dream car. I appreciate the variety of vehicles you cover throughout the years. Incredible growth!
You could sue the transporter for damaging the vehicle.
Insurance....
Or just file a claim in their insurance carrier.
Or just use the leverage of 1.5 million subscribers and threaten them to disclose their business. It may be a little shitty to do, but it's shittier to break something someone paid thousands for and not be honest and dump it on them.
I wanna know what vehicle transporter company is that so that i will not do business with them if the dummies responsible are still working with them. And if you are the owner of a business that has a driving role, you would wanna know the name of the idiots so that you will not hire them.
The fuel door is a small metal clip on the inside near the hinge that is broken. That is why it won’t “spring” open.
Give a shout out to those shippers.. folks need to know who they are.
Or at least leave a review on Carvana... or Yelp for that matter. Or both.
Miss my EVO so much!
Bought new in late 2013 (2014 model) and sold in 2024 for $27k.
Near mint condition (a few rock chips), under 50k miles and all stock.
I guess it’s all good, now I drive a 2024 C8.
I have an '11 GSR and have some insight and recommendations:
It looks like your Evo came with the SSS package (Sight, Sound, Spoiler), believe it or not, that high-rise spoiler was actually an option initially, but the demand for the larger spoiler was so high that they eventually made it standard.
Name the shipping company! I'm sure many viewers would appreciate it... I'd hate it if one of my cars got trashed like that.
Hold the little info button on the left hand side of the steering wheel to check the engine temp and it shows a few other things, my old man has a 2010 outlander and loves it
My excitement for you finally doing an Evo wore out pretty fast. Hope you don't give up on it haha
Hey Hoovie!!!…….Tavarish has a guy that just rebuilt an EVO…..his name is Jack….I love the smile on Danielsons face whenever he speaks Farari…..
I was stuck at the gas station recently, and my 4-year-old son offered to help -- the perfect assistant to hold the lever up while I pry open the door with a credit card.
as someone who worked for Carvana for two years this seems completely plausible
Make sure you don't do any launches with that Evo. They are notorious for launching diff pins through the transmission. Sometimes youll hear the pin rubbing the case from the inside as it lathe through the transmission case.
He's gonna do it
@tacticalmattress probably. Lol. He has been warned. I did my part.
Hoovie leaving the garage looked straight out of GTA5
35:28 "YES, I'm getting a Daytona!" 🤣🤣🤣
As a previous Evo X owner. These are one of the funnest most reliable cars I've owned. Bigger turbo, on ethonal was a blast and it never let me down. Owned it for 6 plus years. 15k miles to over 100k miles. Replaced it with an Evo 8 however about 2 years ago.
"it hasn't had any violent damage to it!"... Except for the crowbar attempted break-in and the exhaust being ripped off. Was that damage done with love?
Warning bro U can crack ur turbo and exhaust manifold dragging around the exhaust as it's all connected to the exhaust pipe. I know from experience and had to change my turbo because of it but fix that car up it's worth it! Legendary monster when running perfect
Bought my 350Z for $2k last year. 2003 early production, touring, 6MT with factory LSD. First one sold new in NC in 2002, preordered before they were even delivered. One owner, garage kept, meticulously maintained, and bone stock. It’s quite possibly The cheapest and cleanest clean title running and driving 350Z sold in the world if not just the US. Living the Hoovie life 😎
Any repairs needed?
@ nothing major so far, previous owner did the clutch, brakes, tires, fluids, and fixed an oil leak from the oil pan (replaced the pan) before he sold it. He daily drove it for about 20 years so it hasn’t been sitting, and whatever it needed it got. I’ve just been cruising and enjoying it, and fixing some random odds and ends (blower motor, trunk struts, minor trim pieces needing re-clipping). They’re GREAT cars if you can find one that hasn’t been riced out and have been loved and taken care of
Ok so why/how did you get it for so cheap? Based on your description It should’ve been double or triple that price.
@ uncle bought it new, so I got the family discount 😂 and at the time it had 215,000 miles. But it’s a well maintained and cared for 215, so I trust it more than most used cars out there
It's also one of the worst and slowest years for them. Park it for any extended period of time in the sun, and it's joever
Since the Wizard keeps reminding us that he is retiring soon, would love to see a local technical school work on a few of your more hoopty cars
"Is this Mansory edition?" 😂
Wizard is funny 😂
Send the repair bill to the shipping company. When you have things like this, name the company so that way others can avoid this as well.
reminds me of the one i wanted to buy when i was 19. could afford the car but not the insurance
Just from the description here - the o2 sensor came off the exhaust system one way or another, and once its warm its got the ecu to flick to full rich mode coz all it can see is oxygen
Shippers did $1800 worth of damage to my clapped out Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X! (I regret buying it) - Fixed the title for you
You should do a video on how to deal with shady shippers that do stuff like that.
The first new car my wife and I bought was a 2009 Lancer ES with a 5 speed it was a great car, always wanted an EVO
The loss of power could be the waste gate being off. It will put the car in limp mode
*19:15** No. That's exactly backwards. Cmon bro. I don't even wrench turn anymore and I could remember that.*
Explain pls
I'm not one to tell people what to do with their money but I'll love to see this car back to working proper functional condition
How many times did he say PAID ONLY 7000. He was seriously ripped off!
that's the format. he buys problems, posts about the bad news, spends money so they can one day be sold.
That Evo is Tavarish level broken. Nice!

I think its a Mach 1, too.
Good question. It is a Mach 1
Dunno what happened there, but HORRIBLE audio hoovie! Man, i had my ipad up so loud and barely heard anyone but yourself. Otherwise, thanks for a cool video.
A fully sorted Evo is one of the quickest point to cars. A mate of mine had one and nothing else could touch it on a twisty road. He had a few troubles with it after the rear axle destroyed itself on 11k, then once that was fixed, the engine went bang on 19k.
