I wish I could tell you exactly why, but something about the way you present your content is always so clear and understandable to me. You get the back up shots, you get the close shots, you talk through not just what you did, but why you did it… Altogether, your presentations are consistently excellent. And while some may see it is crass marketing, I actually appreciate when you flash on the screen the products that are for sale in your store. Thanks for everything!!
I appreciate it! I think about exactly what I would want to hear and say if I was trying to learn something. This has been a goal for all my videos as I would often watch others and be frustrated by the lack of details!
I love the impromptu moments in the beginning: *grabs post* oh it was just floating there *hesitantly attempts to break it over leg* oh wow that worked!
This sort of diy weekend warrior content is a perfect fit for your channel without crossing wires with EG. Really REALLY like seeing this from you 🤙🙏 Awesome video!
Just like all your other videos, “just the facts”; everything we need to know to build a trellis like this for our garden. You have a very pleasant way of presenting the information, easy to understand, not too fast or slow, just right. Keep up the good work. 💚
I love the "it smells like pee" regarding the gourd comment. If you've ever seen Mark's videos from Self Sufficient Me you will see his pumpkins climbing and taking over his tunnel trellis...mind you he planted more than just one! Good luck with your gourds!
I love the video but I had to laugh a little, I live in western Kansas where it is common to have very high winds. We have to build garden structures like we are expecting a hurricane! I have a similar structure but it’s built with ten foot eight inch wide fenceposts set three feet in the ground and cattle panels 😂
You are such a good teacher, presenting the info in such an easy to grasp way. And showing us we don't need all the fancy, costly garden apparatus to have something functional and nice to look at. Love your videos and thanks for the work you put into them.
You inspired me (my husband actually did all the work, I just came up with the idea) to build a raised bed using wood from a fence we took down and replaced! I love how you repurpose as much as you can, which we try to do now!! Now I’m growing two pepper plants, a tomato plant, and a couple corns with some basil and a cucumber (I think, it might be a watermelon, I didn’t label my seed trays 😅). Thank you for being an inspiration and sharing your knowledge!
genius about using the drill to dig out fence posts, literally paused the video to outside and do that on an AC unit fence screen that I've been trying to figure out how to get the posts into my packed dirt by my patio
Love your DIY videos. You really teach people the step by step, and you flash on the screen all the tools and equipments you use, and it's easier for other DIYers to understand and pick up what you use. Thank you. I will definitely use this sometime.
I really love your content. I haven’t gardened in years, but watching your garden grow and seeing projects progress with you is so inspiring and soothing. thank you for your hard work to share this with us :)
I always love to see veritcal growing. I was at Epcot recently and they had an exhibit showing how they've been researching vertical farming techniques and how it can really maximize your yield for crops
I recently sunk some smaller diameter wood posts, similar to what you have there, and I used the garden hose with a jet nozzle to create the hole as I pushed the stake into the hole. I made it at least a foot into the ground by hand and tapped a few more inches with a hammer. Very secure and easy to install
Very nice build. I did one similar but I built it in my shop and had a helper bring it to the garden. I then attached it to stakes. I wanted to be able to move it if I ever changed my mind and I already moved it twice.
I'm wondering if I can make a similar archway with conduit anchored with rebar, hmm. It's easy to attach the fencing to it with wire or twine and I've already built a trellis that way.
This looks really nice! I've got a "cathedral arch" (2 8ft cattle panels connected at the top to form a point) for my extra tall cucumbers and it's one of my favorite things in my garden
Thanks for this video! I just erected a new trellis with that nylon netting thru some six foot U-posts. Next time, when buying the U-posts, I will make sure that all of the metal cutouts are actually completely cut out...ugh. So I had some twine to tie the netting to some places on the U posts. I have black beauty zucchini and Kentucky wonder climbing green beans and a few beit alpha cucumbers on the ends. I have nearby some oregano, thai basil, parsley, holy basil, and have cosmos and daisies to sprout and put around the trellis too. I'm frantically looking for my BT and it's all gone, so I ordered more. My zucchini is almost a foot high so I want to use the BT now. I used microryzal powder in the planting hole, but had left this area to rest with worm castings, compost and mulch for a few months, and it was now ready. It's been a very humid and hot Summer so far, and I have automated watering set up thankfully. Thanks for the tips!
This is great! I basically did a similar build, minus the wire, for Florida weaving my tomatoes. But you could grow anything up this. I have a couple pumpkins climbing up mine with some sizable fruit. Might have to support them.
This is the walk-in brassica cage solution I've been looking for. It can serve 2 functions with removable netting depending how I want to use the structure from year to year. Thank you! 👍🏻
The first time i grew cucumbers i let them sprawl all over a raised bed. The next year, i let them grow up. I need to start trimming off some of the vines because i have a jungle and i miss cucumbers sometimes.
This looks great! I was wanting to create a arch/arbor/trellis/entry way into my garden area but couldn't find anything that would fit the width off the shelf. I'll be able to do something similar here and make it fit my space perfectly. Thanks for sharing!
For some reason I kept picturing you whittling some spindles for the top corners of the arch every time you said it didn’t look good. Maybe because whittling seems like a very garden hermit thing to do.
I love the garden straw, but be prepared to be picking wheat grass out of the garden for a week or two haha. They try to get as much as they can out, but it would be impossible to get them all. Your trellis tunnel looks great, though! We just built one this year with cattle panels - it's 16 feet long and tall enough that we can walk through.
I recommend using postmaster galvanized steel post. It a little expensive but will last longer than wood. You could also attach wood to it to raise it above the ground which will prolong the wood.
This is great! Is there anyone you would change? I'm thinking of building this in fall or spring. It is too hot to tackle in Houston already. But I will have it next season!
A little surprised you took the fencing all the way to the ground. It's a pain to garden around it, so I always start my trellises several inches off the ground.
I'd love to see what this looks like in a month or two. I'm probably going to build one myself, but I'm thinking about putting both side into raised beds. Would I be losing out on produce by having the first 3ft of height taken up by the raised bed?

I know right. His voice is clear and just soothing to hear him talk about everything.
I agree 100 %
I agree, he’s great in presenting his ideas and actually demonstrating it.
Totally agree! I haven't bought anything from their store yet but I love seeing the products in use too.
I love the impromptu moments in the beginning: *grabs post* oh it was just floating there *hesitantly attempts to break it over leg* oh wow that worked!
Keeping it real 💯 haha
That is going to look amazing when the squash fill it up.

In my worthless opinion, you're my favorite Epic Gardener.
Just like all your other videos, “just the facts”; everything we need to know to build a trellis like this for our garden. You have a very pleasant way of presenting the information, easy to understand, not too fast or slow, just right. Keep up the good work. 💚

I've been putting off making a trellis. I didn't know it was because I was waiting for this video 😂

😯 that's wild!
Agree with you, I'm on the Oregon coast, I would need larger diameter posts too.

Looks amazing, great job, I would love it for my grapes 🍇
Dude! It's great,,,,,cause if it works it's great. And that's what matters. And that's one of the things I like about you! You're logical!
Looks great!

Need to plant some rosemary next to entrance.... brush up next to it it might mask the aroma of the squash. Lol
Cool. Thanks for posting

Vertical growing really is key to unlock free space, it's like adding a skyscraper to a city!
Thanks, Jacques. This is more manageable for me than trying to use cattle panels, and it looks quite nice.
GeoDogs are the best helpers in the field
Gardening with trigonometry! 😅 Super informative and inspiring video -- I feel I can go and make the same trellis right now!

Thanks for sharing! I hadn't thought to use water pressure (lots of fear around here about using too much water) to help sink the posts.
This does work well, I will also just keep filling the hole with water and scooping out mud with a trowel. At least that's what I did in the past
Jacques. Iove your channel. Really appreciate your pace and how you explain your choices of tools hardware etc.!
Good job
This trellis looks great. I got this straw from my local shop and I have been unintentionally growing wheat all season!
Very nice build. I did one similar but I built it in my shop and had a helper bring it to the garden. I then attached it to stakes. I wanted to be able to move it if I ever changed my mind and I already moved it twice.
Making permanent decisions in the garden is hard

Creative idea
Great DIY! 👍
That's a great idea 👍 I'm also using trellises for my squash.
This is a great ep. I need a better solution for next year so this is one I'll be thinking on for my applicaition.
This looks really nice! I've got a "cathedral arch" (2 8ft cattle panels connected at the top to form a point) for my extra tall cucumbers and it's one of my favorite things in my garden
Without further ado, a trellis.

You are hilarious! “It smells a little bit like urine…it will be a shared experience for all of us”. Looks great by the way.
Zip ties work for attaching the fencing too
Look forward to seeing the trellis full of beautiful squash! An inventive way to make the most of your space!
Great video. Super informative and good at staying on point
A really great diy trellis!!!
Great job Jacques! You do explain stuff so clearly. But why a stink gourd? LOL. Love your videos.
It is honestly delicious and worth it!
It looks great

Another awesome video. Thank you for sharing ❤️
It looks great, Jacque! Thanks for this 👍
Love it ❤
For some reason I kept picturing you whittling some spindles for the top corners of the arch every time you said it didn’t look good. Maybe because whittling seems like a very garden hermit thing to do.
Time to interplant that squash with something really fragrant! Jasmine perhaps?

There is definitely some seed but at least it doesn't regrow even if you don't pull it by the roots perfectly
Good morning
Maybe after the smelly gourd a beautiful Madagascar Jasmine would look and smell nice. 😊
I recommend using postmaster galvanized steel post. It a little expensive but will last longer than wood. You could also attach wood to it to raise it above the ground which will prolong the wood.
Will check those out
This was excellent, thank you! You explain very well.
nice!!!

The pvc pipe in ground for the fence gate is a good idea. I need to make a fence this spring and this looks simple enough but nice still
A little surprised you took the fencing all the way to the ground. It's a pain to garden around it, so I always start my trellises several inches off the ground.

I can't find the large bag of straw.
I grow a mess of gagootz!!!! fried up its a treat
Haha the gagootz is such a funny way to say it
You lost me at trigonometry 😭. Nightmare from college. 🙁
4-6 ft. long gourds?
Have you looked into solar?
Yes it's on the long term list
We call those "gagootza" here in NJ and we used to use them as fake baseball bats because they get really long!
where can I find some welded wire fence that has 4x4 or 6x6 squares? I wanted to make a tomato cage for cherry tomatoes.
I wish there was one wider holed, others have used concrete mesh which usually comes in large squares!
@@jacquesinthegarden would cattle panel (16'x4') have worked for your situation?
Sounds like squash tea bagging? Sorry. I have twisted sense of humor! Luv your videos though!
I hate the way these smell.
Looks great!
