- On December 13, 2016, Markeith Loyd shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend, Sade Dixon and her unborn child. Loyd also shot Dixon's brother, Ronald Stewart, however Stewart survived, and along with other family members immediately identified Loyd as the person responsible. Based upon their testimony, Detective Brian Savelli of the Orange County Sheriff's Office obtained an arrest warrant charging Markeith Loyd with First Degree Murder. OCSO released Loyd's name and driver's license photograph to local media the day after the homicide, asking for assistance from the community.
On January 9, 2017, at approximately 7:15 am, a witness was shopping inside a Walmart store located at 3101 W. Princeton Street. While waiting to pay at register #2 , a black male wearing a black shirt with the word "SECURITY" on the front, stood behind her with his cart. The witness knew Markeith Loyd by name and face and was aware of his outstanding warrant, and immediately recognized the customer behind her as Markeith Loyd.
As she paid, the witness spotted Orlando Police Sergeant Debra Clayton exiting the store. She had just purchased several small items from register #18 and was walking towards the north exit of the store adjacent to the produce section. The witness exited the store through the same door and approached Sergeant Clayton, informing her of Loyd's presence in the store.
Sergeant Clayton requested emergency radio traffic for an attempt to contact a possible homicide suspect. Eight seconds later, Officer Brandon Thornton, a member of her patrol squad, broke from his call and began traveling to her location. OPD Communications then established emergency radio traffic on the, "Emergency North" channel with responding units as well as Sergeant Clayton switching over to this channel. Units on the emergency channel began asking Sergeant Clayton for her exact location.
Fifty seconds into the call, Sergeant Clayton stated, "I guess we're looking for a Markeith. He's walking out the door right now. I guess he was involved in shooting with a pregnant female. I am at the first entrance." At one minute, fourteen seconds, she transmitted, "Foot pursuit!" followed by the sounds of three gunshots in the background. That was her last radio transmission. Dispatcher Patricia Monahan is heard asking, "B20, you 10-4?" But Sergeant Clayton was dead. And Loyd had managed to escape.
On January 17, 2017, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Investigative Unit located Markeith Loyd in an abandoned house at 1157 Lescot Lane in Orlando's Carver Shores neighborhood. Loyd was observed dropping two handguns from the window of what was later determined to be the bedroom directly south of the entry door. Loyd then complied with commands and crawled on his stomach from the entry door to awaiting officers where he was placed under arrest. Loyd was wearing an American Body Armor (ABA) level IIIA bullet-resistant vest is at the time of his arrest, rated to stop all handgun ammunition commonly used by law enforcement. The firearms would remain on the ground where they had been dropped until a search warrant for the residence was executed later that evening. After being secured he was transported to the Orlando Police Headquarters for interrogation by Detectives Danny Garcia-Pagan and Pete Cadiz.

He asked several times for a lawyer so anything said after that is fruit from a poisoned tree since they didn’t remarandized. He’s a dirtbag but there are things put in place so they get done correctly the first time and don’t have to stretch out for years on appeal etc.

He was sentenced to life in prison in the case of his ex girlfriend back in 2019.
On March 3, 2022 he was sentenced to death for killing the cop (Clayton).

She was his girlfriend of a couple of months and was trying to break up with him. He was abusive to her. She was afraid of him. Sade, his gf, had run to the safety of her parent's house. Markeith came demanding she talk to him, alone. Markeith saw that Sade had a gun. He took it away from her, killed her, and shot her brother that was trying to protect her. How he didn't get the death sentence I don't know.

There is so much symbolism in this case. The cops using the handcuffs on him that belonged to the cop he killed. Losing his eye - an eye for an eye as a biblical symbol of vengeance and retribution. This is literally poetic justice.

It is not about "caring." Usually they will leave a perp in uncomfortable stressful conditions because they are more likely to give the detective what they need. In this case, he did not.

I love how he begs to have the cuffs loosened…I wonder how many times the victims begged for him to stop and he did exactly what these cops did nothing. IMO that is justice.
I have no sympathy for him but you also need to consider the 2nd half of this story. There were 2 cops who died because of him. 1 Sgt Debra Clayton approached him unprofessionally without waiting for back-up, the other just ran his bike into a van while searching for markeith which again shows what kind of police we're dealing with. His victims, 2 civilians and a cop, begged 0 times. They were actually the ones to raise their guns first by what he claimed. He also had a record of suffering from PTSD due to being kidnapped in the past (how the cops handled his kidnapping is a whole another dumpster fire to go through) and also growing up in the hood, protecting his friends and elder brother which affects his decision making when dealing with weapons pointed at him. He surrendered and crawled out of the house he was hiding inside, with both of his hands visible. He was then handcuffed, was stomped on and beaten up by the police where they fractured his eye socket and he lost his eye. There is helicopter footage of this happening, the thermal camera operator intentionally stopped recording them and moved them out of frame when he was getting beaten up. (which again tells us what kind of cops dealt with him) Body cam footage or the officers brutally beating him up was never released to the public nor was brought up in court for some reason. Greg McQuitter (the detective) testified where he stated he was with Loyd for about 45 minutes after Loyd's arrest in Jan. 2017. during that time Loyd said he was in pain and needed medical treatment but wasn't given any. (which again...) He also said that he tried to turn himself in twice but did not go through with his plans after guns being pointed at him both times, he also tried to contact sade's father and have him turn him over to the cops so that her father could get the 100k reward and put it to good use. He asked for lawyers at least 4 times in this interview and the detectives kept the interrogation going (which again...) There were also cops smiling, laughing at him and calling him slurs right on the door of that interrogation room, one of them actually takes his phone out and starts taking markeith's photos. The detectives can be seen blatantly lying to him that medial aid is coming while no attempts were made to call EMS. No arrests were made other than markeith, his niece and his ex girlfriend who allegedly aided him to be on the run.. his niece's bond was set to $750K, a lawyer managed to get it lowered to 10K and got her out of jail?? His ex girlfriend's bond was set at $550K, her attorney files a motion to have his client's bond lowered to $10,000 since the niece bonded out of jail. This was rejected at first, then was lowered to $400K, and then was lowered to $20K and out she goes.
State attorney Aramis Ayala announced that her office would not pursue the death penalty while prosecuting Loyd. The move prompted Gov. Rick Scott asks that Ayala recuse herself from the case. (You still with me?)
Gov. Rick Scott issued an executive order removing Ayala from the case and reassigning it to Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Brad King just to punish her for opting out of a death penalty. "These families deserve a state attorney who will aggressively prosecute Markeith Loyd to the fullest extent of the law and justice must be served,” Scott said. 😂
Ayala came to loyed's next hearing and told the judge that she intends to file motions that would let her stay on the case. She was then asked to f off by the judge (not literally) and state attorney brad king was appointed to the case.
Loyd requested to have attorney Terence Lenamon to represent him in his case (Florida's highest paid capital litigation lawyer) the judge asked him to f off (not literally) and have Roger weeden (a cheaper attorney) represent him. Loyed agreed to it having no other options.
The sheer unprofessionalism in this case baffles me to this day. Whoever didn't lean towards Loyd's death sentence was made to distance themselves form the case. Loyd's fellow inmates probably treat him better than what these people did to him 😂

A jury convicted Markeith Loyd for murdering his ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, and their unborn child during a shooting outside Dixon’s home in December 2016.
He also shot and killed Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton. Having these facts in my mind I'll say they treated him like a princess.

People wondering why the cops interrogating him, continue to ask him questions AFTER he asked to see a lawyer. If they continue to ask him questions and he continues to answer AFTER he asks to see a lawyer, only means those questions and answers are no longer admissible in court. It dosen't mean they can no longer ask him questions (which they do) and it doesn't mean he can no longer answer (which he does). The officers know this, so I think they're continuing to ask him questions to gain general knowledge, not to get him to incriminate himself. It's not as if anyone in that room thinks that he'll be found innocent in a court of law. Especially considering what he's being charged with. But that's just my opinion.
