- I got lucky. Not only did Matt avoided crashing the helicopter over the Sawtooths, but I somehow deleted my entire sequence on Premier Pro but only after exporting a rough final edit. So that's what you get is a nearly complete edit with a couple little things that will irritate me every time I watch this video. I am stoked we didn't crash though. I'm always happy when we get out of the helicopter and run, especially when it's in a place like the Sawtooth Mountains. I'm not sure which makes me sweat more, running in the summer or riding with matt in a helicopter?
That footage at the end is unreal
Indeed. Wow.
So, so good
wonder how he took it...
@@mjkl614 Same... definitely a drone shot... but the 'how' beats me lol. maybe landed, let him off to shoot it , than picked him back up... but idk
@@ZebraKatzWhereItsAt @Michael Lin - Same, but I recall from an earlier video where Danny got the/a drone that it has a 'follow' mode, and so that must be how they get shots like that, as with the shots that follow them hiking along a ridge, etc..
How these guys don't have over a Million Subs yet is beyond me - probably the best Outdoors Channel on RUclips.
I sat at my desk and ate my lunch while watching. Thanks for taking me out of my office and to the wilderness for 10 minutes.
That ending footage is some of the most beautiful outdoor camera work I've ever witnessed.
Wow.
That helicopter footage is some commitment to a quality video, great job. Cannot wait for when this channel just blows up
and to this day nobody knows why it hasn't happened.
ive just arrived and I am pretty obscure so theres that. subs are currently at 77k
Clickbait, you guys are neither mediocre or amateur, for sure highly under appreciated
I want a friend who owns a dope helicopter 🚁
JustAMessenger right? Gotta find a pilot bar that is held pilots not airplane pilots. Near an airport? Idk. Where do heli dudes hang out?
A new R66 helicopter is an easy $million$
Yes
Your UAV footage Danny is fantastic! That closing rocked!
Great video. I'm thoroughly enjoying your trips. Took a trip with my sons about 15 years ago to the Sawtooths. Ours was a 60 mile 4 day loop through fantastic scenery. Your run brought back great memories. Thanks!
Finally did this one after watching you guys do this one. My 6 year old and 8 year old did it with me and we added in Observation Peak. Thanks for posting this and giving me the idea.
Really beautiful hike/scenery, thanks for posting this!
The view from observation peak is a pretty phenomenal showcase of the wonderful Sawtooths. Great vid!
Dude, awesome videos. Mad inspirational stuff and great drone shots. Appreciate all the effort put into this!
Beautiful video. The footage over the Great Salt Lake at the end is surreal! I've recently discovered your channel and have been enjoying every single video. I've done a lot of outdoor adventures in the past, but haven't been able to do as much lately with work and a toddler at home, so these videos are really keeping the spirit of adventure alive until I can get back out there myself. Thanks for creating such inspirational content!
Having kids dramatically changes one's lifestyle....I know...we love our children....but still... it's true.
This just came up on my suggestions, definitely adding it to the list!! Maybe as an overnight. I have T-11 compression, so I can run. But backpacking it should be awesome staying by the lake!!!
You guys rock!!
Stunning imagery. Amazing how in middle of nowhere, there are huge long trails made by someone.
I think about that all the time. Why is there a trail here?
Indians, hunters, trappers, miners, homesteaders, etc started the first trails for their own use. Then the Forest Service trail crews improved or constructed new trails where the old trails existed, sometimes improving on the location or re-routing of the old trails. I did trail construction in the 1950s and 60s as a Boy Scout and then later I worked on Forest Service contract trail crews. My first job was in the Big Horn Crags building a trail from Heart Lake down to the Middle Fork Salmon River near the mouth of Big Creek. We used buck saws and axes to clear trees, and rock drills and dynamite to blast through the granite cliffs, and mostly picks and Polanski's to construct the trail tread. We had permanent tent camps with a camp cook set up for living and we lived there the entire summer. We had riding horses and mule pack strings to carry our equipment and supplies in and out of the wilderness areas. It was a great job because we were in the back country where we couldn't spend our hard earned money. At the end of the summer we had quite a large bank roll... ;-)
Long time viewer, first time commenting... Just curious, how much hair product does Matt keep in his pack? 🤣🤣🤣
How did you get the helicopter footage at the end? Drone or another helicopter? Again, I say your view count is way too low for the quality of video you produce.
I flew the drone from inside the helicopter while Matt flew the helicopter.
Wow that’s so amazing!
Mediocre Amateur that took skill and great thinking to capture some of the best footage I’ve seen from mediocre amateurs awesome
Absolutely awesome!
Skillful!
Another great video. Sorry about your lost editing work. I'm going to have to do this route now!
Awesome mountain range.
Wow. So fantastic. Great video guys. Thx
Haha! I loved Matt's reaction to 11 miles more.
Love that area! Have actually climbed those mountains around sawtooth lake. It's an incredible place!
Pretty cool footage at the end there, put that in the beginning!
Wow. That's an awesome day! seriously really good footage of the heli and purp water!!
Great vid! I've been missing the Blaze, though!
#BLIZZNATION
That footage of the helicopter was furcking amazing!!
I lived in SLC for a while. It really is spectacular up there. Great people too.
Really enjoy you guys.
Even though you didn’t upload the final edit you wanted it was still a sick vid! Once again.
Such a beautiful area. For some reason I never watched this one. Im glad I did now.
i hope you guys never get sponsored, i don't want these videos to end
Flying back was just glorious scenery.over the great salt lake.😀
Awesome drone shots from inside the helicopter
This is cool love ..love it. I wish i be one of you guys.keep it up and be safe always!!
Awesome adventure! Keep uploading, you make great videos.
This is the only trail that y’all have done that I think I can do too

😂😂😂
How did you shoot the long shots of the heli over the great salt lake?
I gotta ask and please forgive my ignorance, how do you guys get the shots of the heli over the water in the ending clips?
Are you taking applications for your crew?!?!? Best yt channel out there imho.
If you've got a cool route or suggestion we'd gladly invite you. Especially if you live outside of Utah.
@@MediocreAmateur I just moved back to WA state and will be doing a lot of exploring this year... if any routes are MA worthy I'll definitely let you know.
@@MediocreAmateur I've got some up here in the Canadian Rockies!
@@MediocreAmateur I am not a trail runner but I see them doing the Presidentials in the White Mt of NH, its a ridge run and if you summited all the peaks it would be an adventure. Maybe a little far but deffently in your wheelhouse. The ridge is all above treeline and it beautifully and very rugged. Take care
@@MediocreAmateur the manitou springs incline in colorado hells canyon Idaho in summer July or August up suicide point.
Such gorgeous video.
Who was filming the heli? Top notch footage.
Wow, beautiful at the end there!
What dates did you do this? Weather temps day night? We are thinking of doing the Grand Sawtooth traverse.
Unreal outro footage.
Great Footage. I wanna ride in the little red chopper so bad!
awesome adventure, awesome footage, ty!
If Ultimate Direction isn't paying you, they should. Also, after watching a bunch of your videos, I just bought one of their packs after using nothing but my Osprey vest for several years.
How did you get those shots of the 🚁 on the salt lake? 🤯
Awesome video love the Sawtooth’s
The luxury of heli riding in oh my the things i could do!
That is pretty sweet drone footage of the helicopter flying across the GSL. I assume that you launch and retrieve the drone from the helicopter in the air. Is that correct?
That would be virtually impossible, as the downwash from the main rotor of the helicopter would probably blast the drone out of the sky. Also, it would be pretty dangerous. Crash the drone into the helicopter rotors and that's really bad news. There were lots of places to land and then launch the drone. No reason to take unnecessary and significant risks, although I doubt it's even possible.
How'd you get the shot of the helicopter from a distance flying over the lake?
Yo guys sweet videos, I just found your channel, I know A Smith and know of galland. Awesome watch you guys charge these adventures with honesty. Your doing a good job capturing much of the moments, maybe we will sync up sometime on one of these
Just amazing
Incredible footage!!!!!!
As a fellow helo pilot, how do the landing permits flesh out in the sawtooths? PM as required...I'd like to get out there.
We landed just outside of the wilderness near forest service road 524. It's an awesome mountain range.
1:00 dudes hair though..... you hiking or going on a date?
Fo hawk bro
Nice ride!
LOVE watching these old MA videos, so sick guys. Wish Matt was my friend... the rest of you too but he's got the helo. Hey how did you guys get those sweet helicopter shots at the end, a drone??
This is one of my favorite youtube channels. Do you guys use a drone to capture the helicopter in flight footage?
Beautiful!
How much is one of those helicopters?
New 2020 models are right around $1,000,000 USD. You can pick up used ones in the $300,000-750,000 range.
Now you need to make it to Alpine Lake. Hike/Run in Camp. No one is ever there. So skinny dip to cool off, or bath. Then get warm the big rock. Made those hikes many times. Camped, fished and just unplugged from it all for a few days. Didn't you go down and around beautiful Redfish Lake? We call it our perfect meditation place. So worth it.
best youtube..of trail runners..now..i used to do this too..they will have to keep running....as the earth keeps spinning..
Dude. Awesome.
Thanks
Epic trip boys!
Amen.
that views ! awsome !!
How do you guys fly a helicopter into the Sawtooths when they wont even let me ride a bike in there
You are such a bastard. I totally admire everything I’ve seen you do so far. I have to drive from logan every year to go to my yearly Sawtooth trip. Have you gone to the winds when it’s not a shit snow?
Bravo.
How do you get the aerial footage of the Heli?
The shots of the Heli near the river were taken with a mavic pro drone.
Re the main blade slapping the back blade ... that won't happen ... what can happen with negative G is the main blade will either cut the tail off or mast bump and shed blades or cut through the cab removing various important essential bits of your body. It's not pretty believe me. Your pilot obviously dumped the collective and loaded the disc so you all made it. Good work. Hey keep it up, the time you put in to this during epic missions is very impressive.
What kind of helicopter do you have?
It’s a Robinson R66
Ok, in most of your vids, the drone work is self-explanatory (and fantastic!). But, how does one launch, control, and retrieve a drone from a helicopter? Or did a flying buddy of Matt's provide a chase copter for the GSL shots at the end of the vid?
Love the channel and all of the great photography of amazing places! (Could do with less puking. lol)
Were there 2 helicopters? Lol
Everything you do is a dream...or nightmare. Depending on the amount of life insurance and who the beneficiary could be.
people are friggn lost...are they not...so this is what they doo dooo...
i didnt know idaho had nature like this.
Smoothie is gone!!😂💀
Sawtooth Lake or purple Salt Lake ? No need to choose.
upvote for matts reaction, rofl
Would have been funny if your helicopter flew past just as you reached the summit!
seriously, how the heck do you afford a helicopter and all this gear and time off? I can barely afford to keep myself in good trail shoes, and I definitely can't afford the time off work to do more than a few short runs on a regular weekend. How am I failing so bad at life?
Hey hey, if you had a better channel name more people would subscribe -- your content is great !!
Epic, we have 11 miles to go...friend WTF ok 10 Lol nice...what are friends for
Hope they have at least bear spray!
@3:13 it looks like you're chasing a banana
You can fly choper ho.very 😎 you guys are rich $$$$. 200000 $ choper and you 2 love wilderness adventure 👍
Epic trail and quality footage.
Yet another mediocre amateur location added to my wishlist.
The one person who disliked this doesnt like fun.
I work in the sawtooths
Not anymore you don't

Makes me want to get off my fat bum and go to the lake, instead ima raid the fridge. ^_^

utah accents. so funny.
Love yalls channel and all your content. But you got to change your name lol. Mediocre amateurs? Guys that fly around their super expensive planes and helicopters to remote parts of the country to sky and hike and trail run? Your average person doesn’t have the means to do that. Too each their own and I think your channel is awesome but just kind of makes me laugh when you’re trying to relate to the average outdoorsman as you land your helicopters and planes in the middle of the woods
Someone needs to say this so here it goes... What's up with Matt's hair, at night, in a sleeping bag? Does gel keep that poking straight up like that? Isn't that a shit-ton of work to keep it looking like that? Can't he wear hats? He's got nose hairs sticking out his nostrils but he insists on perfectly coiffed hair in his sleeping bag in his sleep? I'd hate being around Matt. Helicopter or nah. Just saying...
The guy with the puffy jacket on the whole way is really annoying
I would never trust a helicopter. That's what I would do is fly low in case you have to crash land. Knock on wood.
