It's so nice that your father still has good health and is able to help you out with much of the work you're doing on the trucks. Also good father and son bonding.
There is absolutely nothing wrong bs'ing with your dad, been doing some of that with my dad today. Priceless time that can't be replayed. To be honest, it is one of the best videos you've made, by absolute accident. The real Mike, the family man.
Hate to say this Mike, but being cheap costs more in the long run, even if you just give your time away, it costs money to make a excuse for not doing. I've seen those bellhousing bolts removed by a good welder man who brought his machine to my shop, the bolts were broke right at the block making the bellhousing about three inches of hole in it to reach that broken bolt.... it didn't even phase him!!! Jumped up on my frame and found a place to get comfortable, that almost took more time than the welding as he welded that hole completely shut, and then some plus put a nut on the whole thing and used a small crescent wrench to spin it right out. That bolt was one I broke after it had turned a ways out and my trying to force it made it break. Heat, not a hand held "want to be torch" thats intended for solder. The bellhousing is cast and the bolt is steel so it did not stick to the bellhousing
Mike, a little tip when you get to grinding, cutting on the fiberglass 2 words. Baby Powder.. cover any exposed skin with a liberal coating of Baby Powder it will close up your pores and keep the fibers out of them. use a resperator and a tyvec jumpsuit also. Then blow your self off with air before you wash any skin. (Trust me on this I worked with fiberglass for several years.) Remember once you sand off the Gelcoat you can join panels together easy enough, also fiberglass cures from the inside out or what they call Exotherms let all your patches cure fully before you gelcoat. another tip, find out what kind of resin was used origionally and use the same type to do all your repairs Ie: Vinyl Ester, Epoxy, polyester among others. good luck.
Yeah Mike, Try putting on pants in a cabover ! It's not like these Princess Condo's on the roads today, with all that room. LOL. Your Dad mentioned that about pants. And I got to thinking about it and started laughing out loud at work. Love ya guys!
Its nice to see you and your dad working together. You are creating great memories that you will appreciate even more later on. Check the dates on your change. They may be worth quite a bit more than face value.
Mike, i hadt to drill out 3 broken flywheel bolts on a cummins and believe me, they are super hard. An old timer at cummins loaned me a cobalt set of drill bits that he used for years and they cut through those bolts like butter. Now you have to use machinist grade cobalt bits, not the cheap walmart specials. Make sure to dress the broken ends of the bolts before drilling with a die grinder. I was worried id ruin the crank, but worked great. Bill
I had a '98 Freightliner with a 60 series Detroit. When I bought it, it was set at 500 hp, which I think was the highest setting. I changed it to 430hp on the foot and 500hp on the cruise.
Elephant eating one bite at a time fo sho. It's all good Mike. Love to see you and your Dad working on the rigs together. Someday the two of you hauling a lowboy to pickup another rig... I can see it through the spy glass into the not too distant future. :-) Pete cabby with you and your Daddy :-)
Good morning Mike, hope your havin a great day. Wife and I are going for our 4mile walk sooo catch your video a little latter.......As I.C.Weld says.... "More work less talk"😉
Good show guys. Had a ten speed eaton. Syronizers were gone. Had a million eight hundred thousand on it. Had to replace a couple gears. Had it done at arrow Detroit Michigan. For thirty four hundred. First time apart. Bought truck new in 2000.
You can geta brand new crate 6NZ Cat engine from Cat but you have too have a Cat,Detroit, Cummins block to give as a core plus there's an up charge if you want a bigger displacement than the core you are trading in.
Mike dont listen to these fellas bitchin at you I bet none of them have hurt their back at the same time trying to make content while doing a full time job and going on holiday but still put in the effort to put out content with RL context. So sod them you keep on truckin buddy.
Use the whole new roof and cut the old roof away but leave the windows,if the new roof is too wide cut the difference from the middle keeping the strength strips and cut away the front part of the new roof and blend it into the front part of the old roof, just a thought as I have worked with fibreglass before and less cutting is always better, the damage to the new roof will partly be cut away also.
you also can take tin plate inside the cab make a template put fiberglass all over it and then you'll be able to make a template correct blueprint you'll be able to pour glass less work ///// take the tin plate tap in place you also can tack in place then put the fiberglass hair into the mold then pour you fiberglass
That's pretty ballsy of you to have that out there in the open about one nut, makes me respect you more to do that one the internet, have a good day bud from Norht Bay Ontario.
normaly i weld a washer on the end of the bolt. wait a minute and weld a nut on the washer. the heat normaly is enugh to get the bolt loose and open easy. if it not work, you can cut the nut and washer of off and drill it out later. but i am shure it work.
Mike, Why don't you just buy the parts you need and repair the tranny? Roadrangers are easy transmissions to overhaul, Just remember to put it in time as you put it back together. Pull the bellhousing and back unit off first, then the transmission is easy to take apart; It would save you a ton of money to do it yourself.

Yeah he's definitely holding the purse strings tight..he will NOT buy anything new unless it's a tool ha ha

Only a guy that's done it a million times would know that struggle.
Unless you have a freightliner argosy or international 9900 raised roof flat floor edition putting on pants could be a challenge
@@lornperkins4270 A 1990 Freightliner C.O.E. was also a challenge.
Its nice to see you and your dad working together. You are creating great memories that you will appreciate even more later on. Check the dates on your change. They may be worth quite a bit more than face value.
Glad to see dad at the shop you two are doing a great job

Enjoyed the sit down chat. Felt like I was there.

Oldman Winter needs to take a permanent vacation
YES! Thankfully the melt has started.
(Me as old man winter) I'M NOT GIVING UP DAMMIT.
You should try and pickup a dry ice blaster. It will make short work out of cleaning the burnt carbon areas
Good morning Mike, hope your havin a great day. Wife and I are going for our 4mile walk sooo catch your video a little latter.......As I.C.Weld says.... "More work less talk"😉
Nice Andrea and I are going to start doing the same. Put on way to much weight in the last year.
Your a brave man mike.... it would be best to just get a new roof cap.... or you can make a mold off of the other truck and make the piece you need
Good show guys. Had a ten speed eaton. Syronizers were gone. Had a million eight hundred thousand on it. Had to replace a couple gears. Had it done at arrow Detroit Michigan. For thirty four hundred. First time apart. Bought truck new in 2000.
Since you are using some Peterbuilt roof pieces, should you get new badging for Smokie? Like Kennerbuilt or Peterworth? 😆
😂😂😂
Lol 😆

Oh mike drill the hairline cracks prevent the crack continuing until you can either weld or replace?
Thanks Craig 😊
Good evening mike 🚛🚛🙋♀️🇨🇦🇬🇧

I would just put glass where that roof cap vent is....makes it look different

Mikes Truck Repair Shop!
That's pretty ballsy of you to have that out there in the open about one nut, makes me respect you more to do that one the internet, have a good day bud from Norht Bay Ontario.
Testicular cancer is real and very good odds as long as a guy doesn't leave it untreated. Best thing I did was get checked when I found the lump.
@Mike the Truck Nut agreed I'm glad everything worked out for you, love your videos and your personality in them always makes me smile.
You need tea making facilities in there 👍
That's a good idea
I say the exact same thing every time I buy another model kit...."What did I get myself into??"...
instead of patching it I would make a fiberglass mold off the other truck. there's plenty of video's here on youtube to show you how to do it.
well mike with stubby u ever thought of rebuilding the motor drop in the 2000 pound torque transmission and turning it into a drag racing truck
Not really no, we don't have anything around here where I could race it
There is a 13 speed on marketplace Vancouver
Did you replace tires on tractor. Just from pictures looks very new tires
Back drill it do you have clecoes?
👍
normaly i weld a washer on the end of the bolt. wait a minute and weld a nut on the washer. the heat normaly is enugh to get the bolt loose and open easy. if it not work, you can cut the nut and washer of off and drill it out later. but i am shure it work.
Just weld a washer to the bolt and then a nut to the washer and they will come right out just did ten in my bell housing
mike talk to tim Gentry about motors, he can get new cat 6nz engines and loves his detroits.
Nothing wrong BS with your Dad.
far more interesting to recycle, repurpose and reuse....just bolting on parts isnt nearly as fun either. man...i would take a 12.7 over a 14l any day.
Who cares if nothing got done.
Make the most of that quality time with your dad.
Lot's of work to do Mike. Did you put that Kansas plate on the wall back there? I couldn't tell from the video.
I take that back Mike, I saw it laying on the bench at 23:21 time mark.
Yeah I started getting them up on the wall. Thanks again
@@mikethetrucknut Yes sir. I can't wait to see it up there. I did take a screen shot at that time stamp.
That was well frustrating, my hearing is just not up to following the conversation, even with my hearing aids.

All talk no work don’t get it done!
Sure would like to see more work on the trucks versus 40 minutes of talking.
Yeah I wouldn't have even put this video out but we went to Florida and I didn't want to have a missed week. That day stuff just didn't come together.
A lotta talk and not much action, wait..........that's lyrics to a song !
