He really was genius. This wasn't some fluke character that just happened to be popular because it struck a cord with 90s kids. I remember watching this episode when it was syndicated on TBS, back in the summer of 1994 or 95. We were at my grandparents' old cottage and yes they had cable up there haha. So every time I watch this, I am reminded of that old cottage. All I remember is when Steve slipped and fell and they were all watching him from the top of the roof.
Rewatching the series on Hulu (they have all the seasons). Steve Urkel will always be funny and cute, but this scene really squashes my grapes. He has enough problems being the school weirdo and the butt of everyone's jokes, and these two awful characters liquor him up and make him the freaking laughingstock of the party. My heart always broke for him here.
I wouldn't say Waldo was a bad person. He thought Willie Fuffner was his friend but would often be ridiculed by him as well due to his lack of intelligence. But after seeing Willie almost killing Urkel do to his hatred of him, he left Willie alone and became friends with both Steve and Eddie.

The only people on Family Matters that didn’t like Steve were Rodney( even though he did show concern for him) Penny Paiser(even though she did show concern for him) Willie Fufner,The Dragons, Everyone in the episode Betcha Chi Guy, The Bullies and Dexter Thornhill.

When he almost lost his life, it made me realize I was unfair to him at work for a few mistakes he's made. It's funny how when someone almost goes, you suddenly appreciate them, despite their flaws. He didn't deserve that, and she didn’t have to be there. He probably felt like a criminal. Besides, it's perfectly natural to causally touch or tap people *without* it being creepy; maybe he deserved a right like that, within reason and limits. All or nothing isn’t fair; compromise is fine. He is not a creep; he's a friendly fellow. He left the job because he felt disliked and ashamed and thought it would benefit his coworkers.
