    I've been a proud owner of my SC for 10 years, this year marks that wonderful mark. These cars are tanks, they have their share of common issues but overall it's a great car and they are getting harder to find and more expensive, so take care of them if you have one. They look like nothing else on the road and turn a lot of heads, it's really such a timeless design.

      Would you mind sharing some issues you’ve had with your SC400/300? Curious as I’m considering getting one as my daily/only car. I know maintenance is more expensive overall, but how’re ownership costs for yours? Is it manageable or does the car being an older model year make it harder to keep running in terms of the availability/affordability of parts?

      Alot of folks are doing the same to other budget jdm cars trying to praise them into mk4 prices for no reason lmao, then cry when prices do rise.. 240sx cars are getting rare because most have been drifted to death and finding one stock is close to impossible... Mazda fd rx7 and mk4 because those weren't mass produced like other mazdas and Toyotas like the sc300/400,is300, gs300,gs400 etc. But alot of cars like hondas and miatas have double in price from just popularity and gas prices in general so all the economical cars have double just because they get better gas mileage...

    I paid 1700 for mine in the beginning of 2020 with 120k miles and all routine maintenance done including timing belt water pump ect. I've put a hard 25k on it with regular maintenance, (was my daily street drift project) and it's still strong. Recently pulled engine and trans to go through and fix a few small things and straighten out the front chassis after I broke coil springs and pushed the control arms back from it being lowered. It sat about 3/4 inch off the ground, static not bagged. 👌

    I have a original 98 400 with now 65k+ miles. I got it over 2 yrs ago with 56k+ miles. Strong engine, quality fit and finish, and its design has aged well. If your interested in one go for it while the prices are still reasonable. Some points to know; non modified cars and black interiors are rare, parts can get pricey, gets good gas mileage for a V8, and its a comfortable highway cruiser. Overall, I enjoy owning it and recommend this car for drivers who want a car that's going to last

      How bad are SC400 maintenance costs in your experience? I’m interested in getting an SC400/SC300 as a daily, and my biggest concerns are the availability of parts and maintenance/repair costs. I’m expecting it to be a little bit pricier than average, and I’m planning to have it taken to an independent mechanic for most work

    • @triplep6062
      @triplep6062 3 месяца назад +1

      @StealthFoxx_ My mechanic changed my alternator for under 600.00. Honestly, I only had two 2 repairs done since owning it. The timing belt/ waterpump and my alternator at two different times. The repairs can get pricey, but if you get the parts, you can cut down on the expense

    • @StealthFoxx_
      @StealthFoxx_ 3 месяца назад

      @@triplep6062 That’s really good to know, thank you. I’ve heard that maintenance costs are nowhere near as bad as they are for the German brands at least though, and as long as that’s the case then I’m fine with paying a bit more for parts and repairs. Regardless, I’m sure ownership costs won’t be astronomical as long as I stay on top of upkeep and preventative maintenance on parts that could’ve aged like rubber seals etc. (provided I get one that’s been cared for and not an unlucky lemon/money pit). Have SC400 parts been hard to find in your experience? I’ve also heard the SC300 has a lot of parts from the Supra that can be sourced, not sure whether or not that’s the case for the 400 as well

    I’d love to own an SC400/300 and keep it running flawlessly for as long as possible. Even if it means having to replace a lot of old/aged parts with newer/upgraded ones. I know maintenance is a bit more expensive overall (especially considering their age), but I’ve always loved their styling, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about both engines (both the 2JZ and the 1UZ). If I can find a stock one in good condition, I’d honestly consider making it a project to do a ton of research on these cars and work on modernizing and upgrading it. Honestly my favorite 90’s car design by far. If anyone owns or daily drives an SC and has advice in regards to modern-day reliability, maintenance, ownership costs, and availability of parts, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences

    The supra is basically an sc300. It was based off the sc platform which is the reason they share many components. The supra was originally suppose to have the v8 1uz but they decided to put the 2j instead. Fun fact: SAARD MC8 has the rear engine 1uz

      I’ve had my 92 for about a year and 8 months or so runs like a charm just got coils and wheels for it. Overall their an amazing car but modding the motor is expensive and very difficult. Their are hurricane headers for the car you can find for 1-2k if you want to go boost the cheapest way is to find an Eaton m90 supercharger from a 3.8 v6 this would probably cost about 4-5k ish to do for turbo their are no kits for the 1uz and you’ll spend the price you bought the car for to custom fabricate everything. Manual swapping is also very expensive parts and labor would probably cost about 5-7k depending on transmission, adapter kit, if you do your own work, etc etc. overall the car is fun but power mods on the 1uz are few and far between so if you want to mod it be ready to spend some cash

    • @RobertCline-jp4ve
      @RobertCline-jp4ve 8 месяцев назад

      Well, I bought a sc400 in July 22 for 5k it has 150K on it. First and foremost, parts are not cheap. I had to totally rebuild the suspension - it was about 2k per corner but that was P2M complete suspension package, PBM coil overs, adjustable sway bar links, rebuilt calipers, Powerstop brakes & rotors, new hubs and bearings. Next was motor mods - PPE headers and I fabbed a 304 SS X- pipe exhaust - 3200. EGR delete, HPS hiflow intake, hydro fan delete - installed a twin core radiator and electric Derale twin fan unit. 1200 or so. The slight motor mods really woke up the 1UZ - I was surprised. I also did the timing belt and water pump and since I was there, I put a reman rack and pinion as mine was leaking also it was very easy to get too when the front of the motor was ripped off for the timing belt. Next up CD009 trans and Ford 8.8 lsd - to do the trans is like 5k, and rear diff 4k. I also have a new Eaton M112 blower - but that is like another 5-6k endeavor because you need a Link ECU and totally new wiring harness to be able to tune it.
      So a place to start for the motor - cheap mods EGR delete and HPS intake. Then hydro fan delete, and exhaust. A set of Lexus motor manuals is a must - you can get a pdf online from the uk for like $20 - hard copy is 150 on eBay. A separate wiring manual is also available. Another thing - nothing is easy to get to on these engines as it is really crammed into the engine bay. Also these cars are like 30 years old and the plastic parts break very easy.
