- A trailer from when the game was in early stages of development, I tried to remaster the footage with all the means that I have, and while the result isn't spectacular it's possibly the best that you'll be able to find on the internet.
Just imagine how amazing would it be to play the game in this state or checking an early version of the game like this. It would be a dream come true.

@@Mew_Stor Thank goodness for that but Im talking from the perspective if 2008, when all I had was a ps2 and had no income or hopes of getting a PSP to play another game in my favorite series.
At least we know it was being developed for PS2 before Nomura stopped the Osaka team and told them to remake Chain of Memories. Then by time they got back to BBS, it was decided to shift it to PSP.
@Hyperactiv Gamer I literally repeated what was stated in the interview. Also, no, remasters weren't a thing in 2007 and he stated multiple times that the team had no experience on HD consoles and the Tokyo team was struggling with so it made no sense, hence why the BBS shifted to handheld along with the other games.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed that Aqua's shadow can be seen at 2:45, it makes me wonder what kind of role they would had. Of course, this is the first trailer but I find it interesting to only see Ventus and Terra in it.

I really wished someone had managed to find Terra’s PS2 quality model.
It's funny how they used Roxas's portrait as a placeholder for Ven's
It's so crazy that this trailer is almost entirely unused footage from the final game
I remember seeing Terra and Ven in Radiant Garden in the Great Maw and I was so hyped to revisit that world!
Watching this trailer makes me miss the good old days when life was simple. How I longed for Birth by Sleep because Nomura called it the equivalent to a numbered Final Fantasy game (basically saying its equal to KH 1 and 2).

For those wondering, Aqua’s model wasn’t complete yet because they were debating how her posterior should look. In trailers from 2009 and 2010, you see her shirt is backless, save for a strip that’s meant to be her bra. It was considered too risque for KH so the design team made her shirt a halter top of sorts.

it’s both sad and Accurate that Aqua is only shown as a shadow since she wasn’t that important in the story besides being with Terra and Ventus.
No no. If you really think about it Aqua is the main hero of birth by sleep. She’s trying to save her friends that are in distress. Plus she had a whole game dedicated to her journey in the realm of darkness.

It's not like that at all. The story always had an order of Terra, Ventus and Aqua. Most of this trailer shows important scenes from Terra's story and a bit of Ventus. Aqua would have been the last to develop meaning there wasn't much to use.

@@khfan1521 Aqua is literally the protagonist of the wayfinder trio due to her popularity. She is important now and back then. She had 2 more extra stories than both Terra and Ventus. This was a beta trailer so she was obviously going to be shown the least when her most important development happens in the end. It's not a matter of whether she is important or not.
The aura, mystery and top tier quality the BBS trailers + secret ending created are unparalleled. That is how you hype something, that is what you remember years to come.

To everyone vommenting on how Aqua isn't present much: I do recall hearing there was a good chunk of time where they had to cover up Aqua since her design wasn't finalized, or rather, she apparently showed a bit too much skin from her back. There's also promotional art from early in BBS's production/announcement where her back is distinctly covered by Terra's keyblade. Its unknown how much her role changed, but a good chunk of these scenes ended up in the final game (if in different locations) so I wouldn't assume her role was that altered.
This is truly a nostalgic trailer! I remember having to wait forever for bbs to come out in my country for the psp. Weird how there's no aqua in this game. The series wouldn't be the same without her.

Beautiful memories, back when I waited for Birth by Sleep for so long, and I wasn’t disappointed, it ended up becoming my favorite game of all time ...
Clearly Ven would've had a better story-line for him in Cinderella's World.

I like the KH2 keyblade graveyard's usage in some of the scenes. The environment really compliments these scenes and gives it a more dark/serious feel (although BBS keyblade graveyard still kicks ass in my opinion)
People saying aqua wasn't invented yet are completely wrong, she has a shadow at 2:46 and was in the kh2fm secret ending (2007)
The main thing I noticed was the area where you fight 1000 heartless in KH2 was going to be in the game. Same goes for Destiny Islands Town.

I might just be misremembering but it seems like some of the scenes here are still in the final game but in different locations (maybe land of departure and the keyblade graveyard weren’t finalized yet

Young Senju doesn’t really mean it should matter the location and context of what all this could’ve been supposed to mean, sure it’s all kinda there in the final product but at least it seemed like more interaction was meant to occur between Ven and Terra, and even Aqua surely
The trailers always make it look cooler than it ends up being. STOP LETTING TETSUYA NOMURA WRITE YOUR GAMES, SQUARE!
His ideas and visual style are extremely interesting, which is why his trailers are always amazing, but he never fully delivers on the final product. He really needs to hire a writer to take his concepts and turn them into an actual, flowing narrative that's planned out entirely in advance with complex characters. I actually kinda wish they would remake the series with the above in mind, but that'll never happen.
End of Sea I agree with you 100%. Character design, level design, world building... He’s brilliant. It’s the actual story writing itself that he cannot do. And if Square was smart, they would realize that and invest money in a writing team that would appeal to their global audience.
Nomura actually has little to do with the overall narrative and flow in the stories. He mostly just writes down notes on what happens and has his writing team fill in the blanks. The only game where he made most of the dialogue and cutscenes is Days.

Because clearly to you, the one who survives and gets to fight the final boss in the Last Episode isn't the TRUE main character. I'm not debating 10 year old stuff with you. The creator confirmed it. The end.
PS: Riku is the true main character in Dream Drop Distance. Once again, confirmed by Nomura after DDD released.

Yea I read the interview and it feels shallow, Nomura is pretty much saying YOU the player Could say that she is the true main, but from story point of view she didn’t feel like it until she got her own game at least
PS: Also there is an old interview of him saying Aqua is a bystander to the story of bbs, you can claim she is the true main in the trio which I don’t disagree with cause she is more popular and more original character plus she had more screen gameplay time but all three still main characters.

It's still a PSP game through and through, wasn't designed to run on a home system. Gameplay is unchanged and the textures/graphics were mostly just upscaled instead of replaced with better models. We don't have flowing hair/pants or crazy facial animations. Same game, less blurry. If the game was designed for the PS2, Osaka may have done a lot more with the game than what they did on a limited device

Es porque es beta el trailer piensa que se publicó el 2008 este trailer y el juego salió el 2010 , ademas este trailer fue hecho usando el motor de PS2 en vez del psp

First time I played it was before BBS came out so I thought it was just Roxas in a different outfit.
Eddie Torres his ds model is crazy low poly, but the skeleton of it is fairly similar to Roxas in 358, mainly because a lot of ven’s textures in that game were just roxas’

Her shadow is at 2:45. My guess is that during this time they either didn't have her model fully perfected or no gameplay as her.
I know this was posted quite a while back but is it just me or is Terra a lot skinnier in this trailer. Like his shoulders aren’t as wide.
This trailer is SO weird in retrospect, as basically none of the scenes here happen like they should in the version we know.
-Most of these scenes either don’t happen or happen somewhere else,
-At no point do any of the Wayfinder Trio travel to the Valley were the 1,000 Heartless battle took place,
-And Aqua is NO WHERE TO BE FOUND except you can see her shadow in 1 shot.
What would this Version of BBS even looks like?

I have a dream.. that I can cross into another timeline and find Birth by Sleep made on the PS3 and given a much more extensive story like some of the stuff we see here.

@@SSlash As stated by Nomura repeatedly during 2007-2010, the PS3 was hard to develop for the Tokyo team was having trouble with it with Versus XIII (KH3 wasnt starting development until Versus was finished). The Osaka team has another HD console experience so if the best team, the Tokyo team, can't do it, what makes you think the Osaka team can? This is why BBS was shifted from PS2 to PSP instead of moving to PS3.
Why was this on the final?! I'm so disappointed but the final is awesome.

Have you considered using AI machine learning to remaster these trailers? The results are really impressive, and you could remaster them up to 4K.
Yes, I tried with this trailer before publsihing it. The main issue is that due to the poor quality of the source and also because of the image being so low res the AI destroys the footage. After seeing both results I prefered to remaster it like this because the other was way too much altered.
Why is the lip syncing so much better than the final product?

You're literally playing the game, dubbed in a language it wasn't initially made for.

At best the localisation team is bad or they can't do a one to one dubbing of the game. The latter is more likely because they undoubtedly can't do any changes/edits to the lip movements like in some anime (to make it fit better).
The game was made with a japanese audience in mind with pseudo-realistic animation/art. See the dubbing of live action stuff, there's only so much even a good localisation team can do in regards to dubbing.
Was this game made by Tokyo Team before the project shift to PSP and the Osaka team developed this game.
Nomura specifically chose the Osaka team to make BBS, so no. Tokyo team moved on to Versus XIII after KH2.

Her shadow is in the trailer and even if it she wasnt in the trailer, she was in the secret ending of KH2 and Final Mix (her keyblade in the chamber of waking), which predates this. She was planned and shown from the start.

BBS was originally being developed for PS2. Nomura stopped the Osaka team from working on it and ordered them to remake Chain of Memories. When Osaka came back to work on BBS, it was decided to shift development to PSP, especially since they have no HD console experience (Tokyo team, the most experienced team, were struggling with the PS3).
I said that because this trailer has a lot of good looking animations during cutscenes (better than what it is now) that obviously show it was being developed at first for ps2

I don’t think Aqua was viewed as the true protagonist (at least not until she got more story focus in the Secret episode and 0.2) also despite having three protagonists the story of bbs wasn’t about Aqua, but instead it was about the two boys.
