- Finally - an upload of my 2000 gay short film, "Birthday Time," about a closeted teenage boy who is determined to get his first gay kiss by his 18th birthday... which is just a few days away. Be sure to watch the credits as well for a wayyy pre-Marvel stinger!
The short played over 40 film festivals, aired on Sundance Channel for a couple of years, and was released on the DVD "Two Brothers And Two Others" by TLA. The rights reverted back to me some years ago, and the DVD is long out of print, so enjoy this pre-HD, relatively low-fi video (shot on miniDV tape) coming-of-age comedy. Thanks again to John and Frank Navin of The Aluminum Group for the songs, and every member of the cast, crew, and locations (mostly in Park Slope, Brooklyn) who slaved away on this and helped out.

The boy is at the same time "tragic" and so funny, he is adorable. Yet the other guy seems more and more torn between acting as a father and being a lover. A very nice and refreshing story. Thank you for posting it. I am in Europe and wish a new DVD could be released again. The young actor is very talented. Him being gay or not doesn't matter, since there is no need to be gay to play a gay part.
Claude You are a very perceptive guy. I really love how observant & detailed you are. Where at in Europe? I live in NY state US & have visited several countries over there but haven't been to Europe since 2001 when I was in Portugal. I feel like it's about time that I revisit this winter. I am probably going to fly to Paris & then branch out from there :) I hope so!

This was sweet. Well made. The older gentleman was awesome doing the right thing. And the teen was cute and acted the way a gay teen would learning about himself.

"Unnecessary Tangent" time:, Okay, here goes: The term "When It Rains It Pours" Is used by the table salt company, to assure consumers that their salt containers, are tightly sealed and secure, that even if you left it out in the rain, it won't get damaged by water and would still pour. Hence, when it rains it pours. Everybody misuses that term to mean that, when it rains, it really pours, as in drenching downpour.

That's a very old school type urinal. That dates the school to back in the 40s or 50s. They were built for institutions, so they last forever.

I get it- First kisses are a huge impact moment for some. But I gotta give Scott's dad some credit- he is trying so hard to be as respectful as possible, while also parting some wisdom on our young gentleman. I'm sure we all remember when we were at that stage in our lives, when the rainbow seemed so bright and curious and not filled with complicated matters...where our biggest worry was a first kiss.

But, I have seen many a teen in my day who had these thoughts and wanted desperately to have a first kiss before finishing up high school,, though maybe not to the extreme he stated (It was definitely humor). In the end, the portrayal shows how different things can be from a simple kiss to understanding the gravity of companionship.
