The orchestral music makes this whole thing. One of the most epic Nintendo boss fights even if you're just flying around. You could feel the importance.
I think that Pigma being the only villain that the queen imitated where the rest of her imitations were of good guys such as General Pepper, Peppy, James McCloud, and Rob was possibly a reference to Pigma having had been a member of Star Fox before betrayal took place.
In my eyes it is not even about Pigma. It is more like a little hint on James is still alive. The Queen only impersonates who got infected DIRECTLY. Why would he use Pigma's memory when the entire Star Fox Team hates him? Because he was the first one who became absorbed. Pepper got absorbed on Corneria, Peppy and R.O.B. on the Homeworld. This leaves that James somewhere out there got infected too during the Aparoid Invasion, so he is still alive. Just think about it. Even if James was hiding, he couldn't be prepared for the Invasion. If even Sauria got massacred in matter of hours, and that planet is at a faraway corner of Lylat, James could have been caught too. The "Queen uses memories she absorbed" makes no sense, since she would then clearly know that Pigma would be the LAST person that Star Fox cares about. I still think James is out there, survived and got cured of the infection with the Queen's Demise just like everybody else.

James was only probably considered to be dead because he wasn't found, but then in Star Fox 64, he becomes Fox's ally who leads him out of venom after his fight with Andross. If he were dead he wouldn't be able to do that.. That means in this game he was probably also alive to get infected by the aparoids. Another connection I'm making is that everyone the queen infected was all 3 members of the original Star Fox team, the mechanic who doesn't age because he's a robot which means he was probably around since the original Star Fox team, and General Pepper who commanded the original Star Fox team no questions asked.

Also also, in Star Fox Adventures James again contacts Fox with a message. Even if I would say if in N64 his last act was to save Fox from the same fate as his, so his spirit may rest in peace, why would he keep appearing in some forms to Fox? It makes no sense in any way that he is dead. First on Venom on the N64, the the message in Adventures, and then in Assault a whole impersonation? Too fishy.

I'm still upset to this day that Star Fox Assault hasent been taken as an example for the whole series. Gameplaywise Characterwise Graphicwise One of the best multiplayer the gamecube has to offer And heck , they even made slippy likeable.
I absolutely loved the sound mixing in this fight. Through the entire battle, the aparoid queen is trying to freak you out, but the sound effects and music are too loud to hear it most of the time. It kind of reflects how, honestly, you aren't letting her fool you. The Star Fox team knows it's just a schtick. Arguing with the voices would be like yelling at an answering machine, it wouldn't accomplish anything. Putting her scare tactic in the background of the audio REALLY sells that point for me, that the characters are ignoring her. It's so great.
And in the final part of the fight, the Queen stops saying anything and focuses solely on trying to kill you as she knows that nothing she says will sway or scare you from trying to kill HER.

I just realized, if you keep the first-form of the Aparoid Queen on it were to have it actually fly around instead of staying stuck in the ground that thing would be massive. Like, the entire undamaged Aparoid Queen, if it's showing its full body, would be like the size of a battleship or something.
I played this game for the first time in years a few months ago and this final boss made my heart pound more than when I fought any other final boss. Such a great game, wish it got the HD treatment like Sunshine.
You know it's bad when Falco gives you health and Slippy and Krystal give you bombs. I can't handle that corny line though. "HERE I COME, YOU EVIL SPACE HAG!" XD
The voice acting is a little eh at times, but I really like how the story is fleshed out a bit and characters seem also a bit more fleshed out. The story elements are probably what win this game over for me.
Dying and having to restart this fight with that single peashooter laser is complete horseshit. Your fingers will cry doing this. They really needed to start the fight with a laser upgrade.

I never meant the variety of weapons but rather stages. It's just ten that can't be done in a different order and can be finished in 3 or so hours. More than half the on-foot portions could have been auto-scrolling Landmaster-only stages, and the ones that do not have deep dead ends that force you to retrace all the way back to the Arwing. Also, the game has some sappy dialogue at times (particularly Oikonny referring to Fox and crew as demons and stuff about "ending our relationship").

Ughh, playing on the hardest difficulty and I can rarely dodge the head swinging attack in second phase of the fight. Even if I am way out of the way it still manages to hit me for whatever bullshit reason.
Yeah gold difficulty was hard as hell, but you gotta be persistent, what helped me out was destroying the little critters she throws when you gotta hit the 4 pink cores, just move left and right while spamming A and they will most likely give you bombs, wings, and silver rings after exploding
Does anyone know there is secret dialogue on the final battle of the aparoid queen when she escapes and you have to battle her? I figured it out when I had only the left side of my headphones play.
Not just that but the Flood while a deadly faction, only affect organic life. The Aparoids can affect whoever or whatever they want to, organic or non-organic, which makes them a far greater threat.
At least Aparoid infected creatures don’t suffer both physically and psychologically. Edit: Looking back at this two years later, ignore my other reply. I don't know what I was thinking.

I like doing something I think nobody has done before with phase 1 which is drag out the battle so I can hear all the dialogue the fight shows.

It's a very linear game with a lack of variety whose on-foot missions slow down and interrupt the flow of on-air portions.

Aparoids or The Flood
Aparoids, because its Nintendo, the creep factor is multiplied. Halo is a more mature game, so its not as fucked up.
