Oaks some of the best firewood we’ve used and honestly in 30 years of fires heating my house I’ve never seen it get too dry. Plus don’t worry if some wood is still a little wet, just get a good bed of coals real hot and throw in your wetter wood with some dry stuff and it will dry right out. You can burn it just fine. Any good hard wood will burn slow and last a lot longer than any fast growing lumber and sappy wood like pine will burn out of control if you’re not careful. It’s great little chips to get a fire started. The main problem I’ve found with sappy pine is that it will cause a lot of build up in your chimney. Don’t worry about it though I promise you’ll not be able to burn more than I have and as long as you clean your chimney and don’t just rage your fire like my mom likes because she wants it to be 80 in her bedroom and then she’s still under a ton of covers and I’m farthest from the stove and have to keep my door shut to keep from sweating all night. Not an exaggeration. We have an insert and a stand alone stove and they both do fine. We’re in 2100 sq feet with 9 ft ceilings and the stove heated that the insert was used in another area but we didn’t have any air exchange with that area. We always liked a big log of oak to throw on at 9 and burn all night check it around work 6 am then let it low all day so it would not go out and freshen it up around noon and it would be ready for a log by 8 pm. We didn’t even let our fire go out until spring and even though we’re in California my mom likes it HOT and is always worried about being cold. We start burning in October and stop in march most years. We burn way more than most or needed if you ask me. And I would stack your oak and hard logs separately from your basic wood. It makes it easier. Also from the video it looked like you were cutting the wood into smaller pieces than necessary. A nice big log is much easier for a long night than little pieces that will burn out or burn down quicker and not leave you any big hot coals. I see you were stacking along your porch and we stacked a day or two alongside on the porch but most of our wood was down back about an acre away. You never know when for some reason a termite will show up and you don’t want that in your back door. Okay, have fun with your fireplace. They’re beautiful and heat wonderful. Plus you’ll quickly get the hang of it and be able to basically set it and forget about it for hours. Been fun watching your family grow.❤

We are in WI and heat our 3000 sq ft home with wood. We let our wood season for 18 to 24 months. Never heard of wood being too dry. Wet wood will cause a build up of creosote and that could cause a chimney fire.

Hate to tell you this Chad, but your wood can’t be “too” dry. We used to cut junipers when it got cold before we got our wood out in the forest and those junipers were old and dead! They made a great fire in the fireplace and I burned juniper (basically cedar) in my wood stove in Washington State for years! I would burn 🔥 my wood stove really hot 🥵 at first to burn out the creosote from the night before.
Opinions are like A**holes, everyone has them!!
Fiona and Maximus are going to make beautiful babies!!

Here in FL with no power since 7:15 pm Wednesday. The power co has been giving updates via text messages and they will be assessing the damage later on this afternoon (Friday) before they can say when power will be restored. Thanks for prayers. Just a lot of tree branches down in both front and backyard. And the pool is green again before the storm you could see the bottom and it was getting better. However, the magnolia tree blew leaves in the pool. On a good note pool guys will be here later today. At least it’s cooler we had a high of 80 yesterday with a 16 mph wind so it felt like mid 70’s.
Chad you guys do whatever works for you and the animals. Since you have a shoot where you can flip the cattle or donkeys to trim hooves then halter training isn’t necessary. I would have to halter the horses and donkey when a farrier would come to trim their hooves. They were just pets and on a 5 acre pasture. The owners did not have a shoot in order to trim their hooves. Since you have a shoot halter training isn’t necessary immaterial.
