Anyone realize that the RRP of this is nearly £280 whereas Dream Cymbals make a very similar device called the Re-Fx Crop Circle which is about £20... This Sabian one is the same price as a whole cymbal!!
How well does this work on a more angled snare drum? I really like the sound but I have a feeling it'd deaden a bit by being pushed against the rim on a more angled snare.
I tried out the hoop crasher and there's no doubt that this device is truly doper as it seems on this video SOUNDWISE. It might sound crappy and so seem not to be the greatest drumming add on a kit, but once you hear it yourself on your snare, it really proves to be a significant addition. Jojo also is a big fan of electronic sounding music, glitch beats, etc... so no wonder he's seeking new, inspiring sounds like this. The hop crasher definitely adds some great extra flavor in sound creatively
I'm only looking at this because I want a clap sound from my side snare and don't want to buy a sample pad but it's 199, I'm better off getting a splash to lay on my snare, or at least that's what I think
I ended up getting a cheap sample pad on sale at gc, I know I didn't want that but it works. I was looking at the dream hoop one for a bit before seeing the pad on sale, thank you for your comment though
having heard both, i can say that the RE-fx crop circle sounds nothing like the hoop crasher. they are very different in tone and use, being that the crop circle has a much warmer, more vintage sound, whereas the hoop crasher is an almost unrealistically bright, electronic sound. in addition, they play differently. the hoop crasher is very heavy and hard. frankly, it's like hitting a brick. the crop circle, on the other hand, is so thin and soft that it will warp and flip it's curve the other way if you hit it too hard. I do agree that perhaps the hoop crasher is definitely overpriced though. all things considered, i'd like to own both of them.
Maybe if you have like a piece-o-trash snare drum this thing is worth it. but all it does in my opinion is kill your snare drum's sound, prevent the possibility of rim-shots and merely mimic a tambourine. So, I would just get a tambourine (which will sound much, much better if it is a decent one). The truth is that Jojo always has two snare drums on his kit when he is using this type of crap (outside of an ad video like this one), and he places it on the snare drum to the left of his hi hats (which isn't even his main snare drum) meaning that he still has a main snare drum to play pretty much at all times. So, unless you wanna get two snare drums just so you can put this crap on top of one of them, just get a freaking tambourine (which will also happen to be much cheaper to buy). It's all just marketing man, this dude knows he's bullshitting everyone... He isn't reinventing the wheel here.
+jdgrecords yeah I was joking I like some sabian cymbals but they just don't sound good to me. Comparing China cymbals is also pretty bad because I won't lie Zildjian's weak spot is China's and I know sabian China's consistently sound better
Dream's product is not sub-standard in anyway and Sabian's is so overpriced for what is some cheap metal with holes drilled in it. Also the crop circle is cut from a full cymbal as well so unlucky mate...
Jojo is such a badass - 9 years later and this product demo still blows my mind what he does with it and makes it sound so boss.
What a cool idea. Not sure I would really use it that often, but it's certainly cool.
Did any notice the cymbal behind Jojo? It's looks like the new HHX Omni to me!
Now everything I play sounds like Christmas, thanks JoJo

For people who like their snare to go "Krrshllshh"! And why not?
the master of drumming! :3
Always love to see some creative FX cymbals in action.
Hey I wonder why his bass drum sounds like that? that called my attention more than the new device 😆
I cut a pair of crash cymbals to make a pair of small hi hats and use the remaining cut parts like that

Great product. I gotta say, if you gave Jojo and old cardboard shoebox he would make it sound awesome.
Gah! My volume was up all the way when the video started. SCRREEECH!
@SABIAN Cymbals Bring back your old logo, it was one of the best logos in music. Fire whoever decided to ditch the old awesome logo.
probably they can smooth the edge more to decrease stick damage
Do they make one for a 10 inch snare
No
Because this device is cut from a full cymbal to ensure the standards of quality that Sabian sets for their products.
so basically you're playing a fuckin tamborine
naw
Sault Inc.
yaw

+lucas wroblewski Get a Dream Refx hoop instead, it's only like $50

Need that hoop crasher.. JoJo is the perfect make you lust it kind of percussionist lolllllll.. He does what he does with so much #jiggyJazz
Sabian... make some more exciting holes please...
This is why I play Sabian. Innovation.
Probably pretty awesome for recording
Will that not totally destroy the bearing edge??
+dzarren It goes ON the head, not on the drum.
Yes, thats great! I love this Sounds!
I was hoping he was going to say "idear"
i really need the charleston with that sound instead lol
+Leonardo Serra have you checked the Sabian AA Sock hats? They're great, guess you'll like it!
thx for the suggestion!

He did say idear a few times lol
just save money and buy a tambourine
drv30 It would bounce off and take up room where you can hit your snare also muting it.

+drv30 Unmiced, no tambourine is as loud as this.
Genius
weird thing, couldn't understand why
It's cool but it makes the snare drum sound way too dead...
Do you wanna learn somenthing Zildjian?
The only thing sabian is teaching is how to make horrible cymbals #zildjianmasterrace
Cody Crumpton Not really man, i have a Zildjian Chinesse Cymbal and a Sabian to, and Sabian sounds better, but almost all my colection is Zildjian
+jdgrecords yeah I was joking I like some sabian cymbals but they just don't sound good to me. Comparing China cymbals is also pretty bad because I won't lie Zildjian's weak spot is China's and I know sabian China's consistently sound better
nice tool:-)
Great!!
Dream Cymbals Crop Circle...unless you want to pay 200 bucks for this
GREAT COLLABORATED INVENTION j. Imma J to #irrelevantFax
Though I'm a zildjian guy, I would really like this thing.
Don`t worry- you`ve got to take a chance with THE SRIRAL CYMBAL (by Zildjian)! cOOL thing, too!
Why is this thing so damn expensive? I'd buy it if it were under $150. Hell no for $300
he did at 0:58 lol
This sound horrible brilliant
Dream's product is not sub-standard in anyway and Sabian's is so overpriced for what is some cheap metal with holes drilled in it. Also the crop circle is cut from a full cymbal as well so unlucky mate...
Luce, se aprecia e impacta, más que su sonido, no me gusta.
This guy is wasting away. What’s going on?!
it is good BUT!! for $199!!! come on sabian this is an effect thing it is totally overpriced
jojo, you are great, but this is crap
Klingt wie ein billiges Tabourin.
