    Extremely helpful. This is my first time sealing grout; I didn't even know whether or not I could/should pour the sealant into a container...whether it would dry out or what. This video was short, straight-forward and honest. Thank you. Now I'll go do it. My project is actually wide grout seams between glass-block walls in my shower. : )

    Sealer helps keep grout from staining. Without sealer the original color of grout with discolor and stain with soap shampoo residue. It's a hassle to seal wall cement grout but it's got to be done!!

    How often do you need to re-seal the grout?

    • @humanfamilymember
      @humanfamilymember Год назад +1

      Keep in mind that all sealers will eventually wear away or lose their effectiveness. It’s recommended applying new sealer once a year or whenever you notice that water is no longer beading up. Tip: apply it twice the first time. Apply, wait 10 minutes, then wipe off excess. Let it dry for 30 minutes and repeat.

    Sealer does not waterproof the grout. It helps wick away water so it doesn't sit as long. If you have leaking tiles, it will not fix this issue. Sealing helps keep the grout consistent and cleaner, and will help a bit with water absorption.

    • @humanfamilymember
      @humanfamilymember Год назад

      If the water beads up then it will not penetrate, that’s why sealer is recommended yearly.

      @GoldStandardFloorCareAustin 5 лет назад +1

      Correct. Grout needs to cure for several days, in most cases, before it can be sealed. Otherwise, by adding additional moisture in the form of sealer, the grout may not cure properly. This can leave your grout with varied coloration.

    Advice needed please. I sealed a shower room floor which had been done by a tiler and
    I used too much sealer. I was thinking it would be a good idea to put on a
    flood of sealer so I poured it on thickly and spread it with a microfibre cloth.
    This particular sealer went on milky white, similar to thin PVA glue and it dried
    clear. The tiles are a marl matt grey colour and now have a slight sheen to
    them. I am happy with this but before being sealed, the grout lines were all
    nice and even with an even colour throughout. The grout lines are now all
    stained, have dark and light areas and are all patchy, although they are sealed.
    They also have a plastic look to them as well. Can anyone tell me how to fix
    the grout lines? Thanx

    complete rubbish... natural stone tile is porous and you need to seal that ... ceramic and porcelain tile is never going to let water through to the wall unless your grout job is bad, buy waterproof grout and adhesive. In fact porcelain tile requires chemical dried adhesive as it impervious, so it will not dry naturally... someone sold you a dummy, do not waste time buying sealer unless its for natural stone and then you should paint it on the whole tile not the grout. If your grout stains use a tooth brush and baking soda or an attachment on your wallpaper steam does a great job.
