"It was a really nice queue" - You'll only hear this from British people.
Hey Fenno!
queue is just "Q' with four silent letters
They aren't silent, they're just waiting their turn in line.
no clue you watched the park bench :3
Logan Just like cue is q without a q.
Hahaha, I've just seen I was wearing an Enter Shikari t-shirt. Completely unintentional - I wasn't trying to compensate!
+Matt Gray Glad to see you have an amazing music taste! ;)
Matt Gray I just went down to the comment section to point that out, the fact that you already got that covered makes my comment pretty pointless so uhmmm... Mystery Biscuits for you. (btw using the MB Sound as Ringtone is lots of fun.)
"It was a really nice queue" - Tom Scott
Never have you sounded more British
how about "WEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYY"
Yes, we've threatened to get Tim on the bench for a while now, and finally it's happened! --Matt
+Matt and Tom can't believe this happened, the people who scanned the tickets must have not been paying attention
+Matt and Tom What did you threaten him with?
+Jacob McCarthy Considering how the rest of that whole thing was run, I'm not surprised... Seriously, it was 2-3 years of scandals around it. Hence why I'm happy Denmark isn't in the finals this year.
+Matt and Tom I really like Tim's energy! Would be great seeing him in more video's which include his interests.
+Matt and Tom Intro should have just been,
"Hi I'm Matt," "And I'm Tim."
*Tom looks disgusted that his line was stolen*
"Welcome to the park bench"
"Walking confidently into somewhere and making people believe that you're meant to be there."
That's basically half of Tom's videos.
I think Tom and Matt have more adventures in one year that most of us have in our entire life.
Oh hey, there's a new Tom Scott video!
...oh, he's in Chernobyl this week. Of course he is.
true, especially in quarantine
at the age of 15 I accidentally wandered into into the front bit of a lecture hall (in Cambridge) where one of the professors from the team who discovered the higgs boson was explaining his work. there was nobody there except for a camera crew so I just sat and read a book for about an hour before it started, saw the entire thing, and was not questioned once. (I guess people assumed I was someone important's son
In Denmark any university lecture is technically open to the public, assuming there’s enough space for the actual students taking the course
@@casperes0912 same here in serbia ,I guess it is usually open as those lectures aren't really popular with public
@@DrHouse1238 Pretty much same here in Scotland. That is to say, not everyone can get into every uni building (chemistry and biomed have some nasty stuff), but you can get into any lecture you can physically access, and pretty much nobody will question you. That is, of course, unless you use someone's lecture hall as a shortcut, which is a very quick way to be threatened by an angry physicist.
"It was a really nice queue"
how very British
The Danes did not account for the British attitude to queuing!
I had a similar experience at Versailles, years ago. I asked (in French) if it would be possible to take a tour in English, and they said to go sit on a bench at one end of this vast, empty hall. Shortly before the tour started, the guide came to collect me, and I found that I had somehow jumped an hours-long queue. I not only got an excellent tour, but got to practice my French some more when the guide took me round afterward to some spots that tourists generally never see. I even ran into the guide on the trip back to Paris--if I hadn't already been on my way to a romantic rendezvous, I could have had my way with him. Ah, youth is wasted on on the young!
Matt actually pronounced Malmö correct! I'm impressed!
Well, they do travel a lot, and Tom has a linguistics degree, so Matt has a good source ;3
@@PuffyRainbowCloud Yes, but have you heard Tom trying to speak French on any of the Citation Needed videos?
@@haiironezumi or Cambrian. He absolutely mangled Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and just put "Sorry" in the subtitles.
I'm still stuck at someone taking one look at Tom and just reading the bridge knowledge in his eyes
Ironic how it their graph Ukraine is dead last...
Which it should have been, it really didn't deserve the win..
@@Alucard45000 really? did you see armenia?
Only a Brit would think that standing in a queue for six hours is 'nice'
perchance would this good sir Timothy be the self-same Tim behind the events and adventures of Mad Cap'ain Tom?! If so then please get his views of it on camera!
This should be called "How We Accidentally Snuck into The Eurovison".
xD
When they started talking about their predictions for that year I paused for a second to try to remember who won that year, it was Ukraine. Then they showed the graph, guess what country is all the way at the bottom... Yeah I also wasn't that much of a fan of that one.
Loving how you all ranked Ukraine lowest and they won :P
+TrevorJr26 The song deserved to be dead last. It won for political reasons which I wholeheartedly support, but it was an AWFUL song.
Jamala rules!
@@atomicmrpelly why tf you support political reasons in song contest?
@@NoNameAtAll2 I think they meant they support the political agenda itself, but not the fact that THAT'S why it won.
These people enjoy Eurovision unironically, how amazing!
I can’t believe that’s the case for anybody even after watching this
Love how Ukraine came last in your graph!
+Dilton94 I want their tips for next year
despite being Ukrainian, there's a good chance I would've placed our song last as well, it was pretty tasteless
@@mastersoftoday Yeah, for some reason when we actually give them good songs they rank us wayyyy lower
Ukraine won! How could you get it so wrong? It was last on your graph!
+Laurent Griot the scores were based on how much we liked the songs, not how much we thought Europe would like them. --Matt
+Matt and Tom I guess that means you're not a standard European
No Briton is standard European.
@@kylenetherwood8734 Ya don't say..........
Oh my. The graph turned out to be rather wrong in the end. About one nation especially.
The last entry on your chart entertains me, now that we have hindsight.
Eurovision taking over my timeline? It took over my facebook timeline starting last tuesday since Douwe Bob made it into the final for tonight.
+youeitherknowmeoryoudon't DOUWE!!!
Speaking as a Molly, I am getting a kick out of a giant muppet shouting my name at 9:35
Haha! Priceless!!!! Got to love the fact that in this day and age they didn't check your Eurovision Pass. Incredible... Well at least you had an ace time and didn't get caught out. That would have been uber embarrassing :)
I just watched a video about how fingerprints can not be removed with pineapple. I must ask, why the hell did Tom cut his hair?
If Tim feels like a tiny little person at Eurovision, that does say something.
Looks at the graph's last place: Ukraine
Reality: IT'S SHOWTIME
That graph just showed us that Tom is a harsh critic
Taking this as some tips for today Tom, can’t explain how happy I (genuinely!) am that that’s a sentence I can say
Eurovision is a... Beautiful Mess.
That graph is really cool :)
Tom's low scoring was responsible for most of the controversy (a reeeeally neat feature) - what's your MO, is there a certain criteria you were looking for those groups were lacking?
Tim: I'm upset because we're not in Stockholm
Me: oof, yeah, 2016 Eurovision was amazing
Omg I remember now with Måns Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede presenting! And I also remember that the Dutch contestant set up a temporary bar in Stockholm where the artists went and sang songs together, the videos of that were the best.
@@rachelle10 yes, omg! Douwe Bob! He was one of my favourites that year!
@@cupcakewithouttheicing I mean, I'm biased but yeah I definitely liked his song!
@@rachelle10 wait, biased? In what way? I'm curious now
@@cupcakewithouttheicing oh just because I'm Dutch, I'll root for any of our songs that are moderately good
Next video mix it up further, have the photo or graphic come in diagonally!
Not Molly Sanden, Tim- Molly Smitten-Downes. Molly Sanden represented Sweden at the Junior contest in 2006. I'm such a Euro-nerd.
@Joseph Bleasdale
She also did Rachel McAdams' singing voice in Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga.
@@noahtalksmoney I know- so proud!
Well.... Ukraine.... Urgh....
Next park bench: Croatia controversy
please explain
MegaMedia5 On the graph, Croatia was very controversial and I want to know why.
+clf400 It was because there was a lot of variation in their ratings (the right-axis of the graph lists controversy as being the standard deviation of the scores that the three gave for each country). Croatia was the country for which their ratings differed the most.
good that you enjoyed the show i was on the team that buildt it spend half a year on that stage construction and was sitting under the stage lifting load in/out ramp
I thought Brannan was just short but you all are tall!
Is it possible to enjoy Eurovision without liking the kind of music they usually play? I've always despised the whole thing :)
Eurovision's airing in the USA this year! They have no excuse for not understanding any more!
Ukraine won, Russia wasn't far behind, you never know, am they might start a war :D
So this is mr "Tiny" Tim Geoffries I've been curious about since the podcast.
"It was a really nice queue." England!
tom, did you just blame yourself for the rain? like, the WEATHER?
These 3 men
Experienced one of the best EVER moments in Eurovision history... Conchita Wurst slayin’ it like a queen...
Holy shit! I can see where I live from that photo you took of the Öresund bridge! :D
Does song quality in Eurovision matter anyway when the voting is politically motivated? Come on every year we know Scandinavia will vote for each other, all the old soviet states vote for each other etc. And every year uk is hoping Ireland will give us something because they are our neighbours.
This year has proven that it kinda does, IMO.
I'm kinda heartbroken they didn't get to see love love peace peace live
I am so glad I stumbled on you Eurovision memory. As an American I marvel at the enthusiasm and the unifying spectacle...and I so missed it watching the final this year (Covid)...There will be more!
Similar story here - turned up 4 hours early for the Britain's Got Talent auditions and got ushered in to this room. Turns out to say thank you for being early they put us in the holding room with all the acts (like you see on TV), bought us lunch and filmed us interviewing them for Britain's Got More Talent. Just goes to show a little confidence can get you a lot!
Going to venues really early does work. A few weeks ago I went to a couple of concerts, and I got to the venue 9 hours early both times, and I was at the barrier.
I love you guys, and I love Eurovision so much, but I'm Australian and gotta get up at 5am for it and this isn't helping.
Is that an Enter Shikari shirt?? I mean, I can see it is, but this was the last place I expected to see that.
So you three saw The Common Linnets as well... Bit jealous :)
Ukraine have the lowest score.
Spoilers, they won
"EuroHooligans"
But is the worst show ever though...
Please put a link to the graph in the description
+Sam Clay Good plan! I've linked all our stats in the description --Matt
+Matt and Tom
You could color grade, use video noise reduction and light balance to make it look like a different time of the day.
2/10 not covered in bees
OMG, i was watching that broadcast in the Foyer of a Hotel, on the Receptionists 14" TV in the (now) Park Hotel in Tiraspol, Transnistria. We were both shocked at the winning act. They are very conservative orthodox russians there. An LGBTQ+ bloke in a dress was the kind of thing to get one banged up in jail there. But his voice was outstanding. (i didn't spot the guys). The Hotel back then was the Classic grotty luxury 70's Soviet hotel, they even had Wi-Fi back then, Its been totally renovated to five star quality since then. It was a memorable night especially the wake up knock by the KGB the next morning at 5am.
I am so glad to see other people just as amazed by eurovision as I am. The only thing left for me is to somehow get tickets to a show
I thoroughly enjoyed Tim's appearance here. I'd like to see more of him in the future even though that probably won't happen!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who rates Eurovision songs on a 100 point scale every year... Except my taste in music is apparently pretty much the exact opposite of yours
Seriously?
I did the same thing, listened to all the songs, and i knew Russia, Australia and Ukraine were going to do the best.
And i knew Ukraine were going to win it.
Eurovision crowds love that sort of thing.
Next year can you do the same thing with the graph, so i know who to put my money on.
Nice Enter Shikari shirt, sorry you're not a winner though
the reason that eurovision 2014 was in a old hall is because Denmark have a place big enough for that many people
also, there was economic problems about the whole event since the people behind forgot to plan things like toilets, electricity,
"Controversy" is an interesting, but honestly apropos, description for standard deviation. I like it.
...checks back after Eurovision on to see where Matt, Tom and Tim put Ukraine... oh....
And ironically, the country they rated the lowest ends up winning the contest...
I didn't even know eurovision is now. I guess its time to check out my country's crappy song
Funny how the song at the bottom of the graph won.
Personally, I only liked Georgia, Netherlands, Belgium and Cyprus. Everything else was mostly generic rubbish.
IT'S CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!
That guy in the middle should make more appearances, he seems quite cool but he looked a bit uncomfortable...
Finland's song back then was so average that all 3 of you agreed on it? Well damn I'd say that hurt but we all know in this country that we don't do well in competitions
10:20 did Tim really just discribe himself as a "tiny little person"
Rating Ukraine last of the 43, and they won. :D
Ukraine in the back of the chart tells so much about the politics behind the competition this year...
There's a subreddit about this, it's called r/actlikeyoubelong
I love how Ukraine was last, with them trying to get into the EU and such :P
As a Swede, I completely aggree with the scores you gave our song. We really dropped the ball on this from last year.
+Helga Leech It's because most countries don't want to host twice in a row. Eurovision is incredibly expensive to host. You should check out the Father Ted episode "A Song for Europe" as it's based off what Ireland tried to do when they hosted it for the second time in a row (although in real life they won, in the episode everyone gives them nul points)
So your least favorite won... You should not become bookies
I'm Danish and I didn't know Eurovision was happening. haven't heard a thing about it.
How shockingly wrong they ended up being in terms of winners.
Matt likes entershikari
haha, the target audience is not the whole of Europe - only the european ppl. that into the contest ;)
You had the Ukraine on last place? Ha! 😀
can i just pint out to tom an mat that Australia is no were ner the eu but yet they keep inviting us back haha
EU and Eurivision are not related, save for both being in Europe.
Or maybe they just wanted to reward all people who came that early.
Interesting that you rated Ukraine last, and they won.
Last place for Ukraine? ;)
Why is Australia allowed in Eurovision?
Can you explain the graph a little more? How did you measure controversy, and is there a correlation between controversy and your perception of quality?
+Mara K Contraversy measures the difference between their scoring of that country. If they give the same score controversy is zero. If they give massively differing scores. Controversy is bigger. The graph itself says he is using standard deviation to calculate the actual contraversy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_deviation#Basic_examples
I'm still waiting on why you hate the wirral :P
So, why are things supposed to be off to the side?
Ukraine won and got the lowest score on the graph lol
Nice Shikari shirt Matt! Gandhi mate, remember Gandhi!
