For all you negative people talking bad about Derrick shame on you he helps more than you he may not be always right just like the rest of us but he has done many good things just like the rest of us Be positive Positive people get were they are going
What you do is start by holding your sticks matched grip and face your palms towards each other (like a boxer's stance). Now position your sticks so they make an "X". Hold the fulcrum with your index and thumb, with that holding the stick, you move the stick by slapping your fingers against the stick which causes it to hit the opposite stick.
If you wanna learn buddy rich things learn it from buddy rich see all his videos watch listen and learn Thanks Derrick for all your videos that means you care we can all learn from each other Good regards to everyone Sindri
I think I know what you're referring to. That playing a fill while twirling the sticks through your index/ring fingers that Thomas Lang and Viril Donati are infamous for. However I haven't a clue HOW that ones accomplished. Do you know if there's a video for that anywhere? Just curious.
Not a bad lesson :) By the way, are you using Steve Gadd signature Vic Firth sticks? Cause my Steve Gadd 1's look a lot like the one's you're using. -Ben
That means more speed if you think it in inches every stick is about 16 inches from the tip of the stick right stick hits the left stick 3 inches from the tip and the left stick hits the right stick 8 inches from the tip the right stick travels down and left towards you
I realize this is an old video and I might not get a reply but I was curious just HOW you were able to keep the right stick straight? Everytime I try this exactly like you've you do in this video the stick is at an angle pointed in and down as if I were playing drums only, of course, moving the stick upwards instead of down but still at that angle and I keep ending up hitting the side of my right hand by my pinky finger each and everytime.
I managed to do it traditional, but I can't figure out how to do it match grip wise (which is how I actually play), I can't get my arms in the right position to make the sticks go against each other the right way... Could you post anything about it, or something? Thanks
Hello all info is good but he is doing it a bit wrong the left hand is not right. To get it right you can slow motion any video with buddy rich doing this trick. The trick to get the speed with this is to slide with the left hand towards the thumb. Right hand on the shoulder on the left stick the left hand hits almost the balance point of the right stick. by doing this both sticks travel one third of the distance
Neil "Dirt" is sitting on the 5th row of mos influent drummers ever. Though I enjoy many of his early recordings, but he semms to be too overrated(if this word is spelled like this). Rich is unique. Just as Tony , Elvin, Blakey, Roach, Morello, Krupa, and so on...
NeilPeartFTW - What tripe! Peart is not fit to lace THE MASTERS Boots - PERIOD. And please tell me how Peart is going to do ANY stick-on-stck trick with ONE STICK.....
lol, 1Drummer88, you have a video that says me playing with no experience...dude...just shut up. If you don`t have skills that can back up your claims, then don`t say anything.
Nice lesson, to the point. Thanks for leaving out all the extra commentary that most YT teachers can't seem to resist.

you need to get it more solid

Funny how people think hes tryting to show off when all he is doing is passing down what Rich pioneered. *Sigh* no appreciation.
