I saw this commercial for the first time at 8 yrs old in 1970 but I think it dates back further to the late 60's. Kids all across America were traumatized by it LOL.
I was in the 5th grade (1975-76 school year) when this commercial aired and I used to drive my best friend crazy with "Oh no...It's Calgonite"! I've just seen this commercial for the 1st time in nearly 45 year and it made me laugh!
This is actually the first time I've seen a Calgonite Spotmaker ad in color. My parents and grandparents were so poor, we made do with a black and white TV until 1987. My brain always translated the greyscale coloring of the green Spotmaker on a black and white set as red, like the Underwood Deviled Ham mascot.
I remember this commercial as a kid--been talking about it and imitating that guy to my kids 4-ever! Now I finally show to it to them.I always mocked this commercial, then they saw it onu-tube(kids are 20& 27) and it was practically X-mas in this house!!
I tell people about this and they look at me like I'm crazy. Glad I'm not the ONLY one who remembers it. "OH NO! CALGONITE!" "That's right spot maker, Calgonite...."
I remember as a child my brother and I laughed at this (especially at the "oh no! Calgonite!"), we thought it was funny, how could anyone find this scary?
I showedv this to my 4 year old daughter thinking she'd get a kick out of it. Boy was I wrong! She started crying in fear and now won't go near our dishwasher! LOL But maybe that's a good thing. She has a bad habit of putting things that don't belong thee in the dishwasher...like crayons, car keys, etc. :)
The Spotmaker has to be gay (and I'm saying this as a gay man). Only a gay villain (or Martha Stewart) thinks ruining dishware by making them spotty is an act of evil.
I loved it when Calgonite came, making the spotmaker's day a nightmare. Justice was served when the spotmaker was wailing and faded. The spotmaker's goose was cooked.
Heh, quite the commercial. Well, not the oucome you had expected, but just think- someday, you'll all look back on this commercial and have a good laff. My friends and I always got a kick outa the spotmaker. Clever 'mercial indeed.
What do you say we put on orange pajamas , sleep and eat candy 6 months Terrance. Well that is orange Philip you know im most ardently allergic, lets just snort some calgonite and say it was good stuff just it .....Terrance we should before the rocketeers show yes. Hahahahaha just get some dates and tell them it was good it just got stepped on philip, yes its those situations Terrance the green calgonite man , please philip noooo
I'm thinking the voice of the Spotmaker is the late Paul Winchell (voice of Gargamel, Dick Dastardly, etc on many cartoons over the years). I think the animation was done by either DePathe-Freleng or Hanna Barbera...which would fit since he worked for both companies over the years.

When someone says, "Oh no..." I still complete their sentence with "it's Calgonite!"

This commercial never gets old.
The Spotmaker looks as if he could be Marvel Comics villan
Somehow the Spotmaker’s final cry as he shrinks into oblivion is kind of sad.
The last time i seen this commercial i was probably 8, im 48 now. The spotmakers lines have been etched in mind still after all these years.
R.I.P Spotmaker.
Thanks for uploading this one!
When I first saw this commercial as a kid I laughed so hard when he died screaming.
I remember this commercial when I was around 7🤣🤣🤣
The Spotmaker would be right at home as a member of the Legion of Doom.
That spotmaker gave me nightmares when I was a little kid.
SAME, apparently I used to hide and SCREAM
Really???!!!
@@vernoncharles2954 Oh come on, I was only four!
Me too! Me too!
My cousin and I used to laugh hysterically at this commercial! We were not yet in school, so this must have aired before 1977.
1976
I used to love this commercial as a kid.

I loved this commercial growing up.

"OH NO! CALGONITE!"
"That's right spot maker, Calgonite...."
This commercial always creeped me out as a kid. I had anxiety just re-watching it :/

Karin Bauer I know it’s so funny
even though from about 40 so years ago, I remembered this quite accurately.
the same reaction when bugs see RAID.....

The Spotmaker saw the fear when the box of Calgonite showed up.
This was my favorite commercial as a kid. Oddly enough, I can still recite it.
I know what I'm going as this halloween.
Nice but the millennials won't have a clue who you are, unless they Google it 🤔
Thay commercial used to scare me when I was a kid.
Me too. I'm almost 42. That Spotmaker guy freaked me out.
+AntiPCTruthseeker Me three!
do i make you unhappy?

THE first of many "things that ruined my childhood"...the next being Halloween 1978. I lived in a perpetual state of heightened anxiety!!
This came out in'79 tho
Spotmaker is in ur dishwasher, spotting ur glasses
That little green dude must have been smoking the Calgon bath salts.
That's RIGHT, Spot Maker, CALgonite!
With blue cleaning crystals!
I remember this commercial. I loved it.

Hahahahahahmhmmhmmhmmhmhmhaha that demonius thing posessed my mind as a kid I believe to be an aggravating 51 year old
The Spot Maker could almost double as the Riddler on Batman!!!
Thank you for posting this one - this first aired in the early 70's when I was about 4 or 5, but they continued to run it well into the early 80's
Is it wrong that I felt sorry for the Spotmaker? I mean killing him just seems like a pretty excessive punishment for spoting up glasses, isn't it?
4thtroika I knowww...he didn’t really know better...and he was having such fun. :(
well, it is the u.s. i mean, why not just build a big wall between him and the dishes?
He brought it on himself.
Should have just left the dang dishes alone.
sounds like the voice of Gargamel......

The VO job of a LIFETIME!! The spotmaker was such an asshole! ❤😂🎉
He was well qualified for the job 🍸🍽
I remember being able to scream like that as a kid. I remember being told to STFU by my father trying to nap after work too. lol
How funny. U gotta luv it! This brings back good memories.
Blotter acid and commercial are not cool. Almost fifty years, and I'm still telling the story.
..this still cracks me up..
Looks suspiciously like Loki!

"OH NO! CALGONITE!"
He has on a dirty uniform. Funny stuff.
I always thought as a kid that Mr. Spotmaker was friends with Mr. Tooth Decay.

0:21, he is destroyed...not unlike the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz.....water destroyed her too CHEE CHEEEEEEEEEEEE
Get it on!
The females voice is so familiar...I just can’t identify it.
@montyite You're welcome. It's one of my childhood favorites too
Me too...Funny!
I made people laugh in school doing that voice. Not sure how he's scary, but maybe I was a bit older
Who Did The Voice Of The Spotmaker On The Calgonite Commercials?
I'd say it was some gay guy.
Sounded like Paul Winchell. If so, he did Dick Dastardly, Gargamel, the whacky director of the episode The Brady Bunch, and The Wacky Races.
@eyechartny One of the funniest things I have read in a long time! So funny because it is so true!
Me and my brother used to make fun of this commercial when we were kids. We thought it was funny
@01tnql Thanks for the laugh!!!
I actually just did a song and sampled this very character lmao
