I agree on 6 of your points but the crate no I’ve got a German Shepard and I’ve never put him a crate I got him used to be on his own as a pup going out for 20 mins then slowly increasing the time he didn’t like at first give it time they will and for putting him a crate and someone breaks in my home the burglar will think he’s won the jackpot the dog locked in a cage so he can take his time to rob me

@@timbowen8749 why not? Crate training is vital especially for GSDs. As they will be kenneled at the vets and groomers. Plus In the car so they don’t get injured in a car accident. Kennels are not bad 🤦‍♀️

    • @hikinggsdmom8754
      @hikinggsdmom8754 2 года назад +5

Crate training is not to lock him in his crate for life. I crate trained my GSD for the first year of his life until I could trust him loose in the house. He is now never crated and roams free and protects the house. But at least he’s used to being in a crate so times he’s had to go to the groomer or the animal hospital and has to be in a crate, he’s perfectly fine with it and it’s not traumatic for him. Crate training is not just for the purposes of crating him in the house all day.

“30 minutes to a half hour of exercise” haha
Great video absolutely perfect i’ve had German Shepherd‘s most of my life in this video nails it right on the head these things are so important if you follow the instructions of this video your German shepherd will be an amazing dog and they love to work so many people think that it’s “mean” to train a dog to work but in fact it’s the opposite they were bred to do this kind of stuff and they absolutely love it they basically have Spidey senses teaching them to sit shake speak roll over lay down stay they absolutely love to learn also I always train my dog to go get his bowl out of my backpack every time we go to the park so he knows to go in and I leave it unzipped about an inch just enough so he can get his nose in there and he goes and gets his bowl he’s also trying to protect which you really won’t have to train your German Shepherd too much as long as you work with them constantly because they are very smart dogs and they were associate words with certain actions so anytime you see your German shepherd sitting even on his own go over and say sit a bunch of times every time he does it or any time he lays down say lay every time he’s laying down eventually he will associate those words with what he’s doing and eventually he will learn on his own what to do when those commands are spoken hope this helps anyone who is thinking about or has just gotten the German Shepherd and remember always treat your German shepherd the way you want them to act you don’t need to scream holler and especially spank a German shepherd once you gain their trust they will be loyal for life but just as fast as that trust comes it can be dissolved if you spank or scream or ignore your German shepherd he will lose that trust in you and it’s almost impossible to get it back no matter the age people often associate German shepherds with being aggressive but they’re only the result of how they’re treated thanks guys and enjoy this video to people who made it knew what they were doing and knew what they were talking about 🐕 😃 🐶

Our dogs take backyard playtime VERY SERIOUSLY and are always focused on fetching the ball, frisby, etc. They take their playtime hardcore serious. lol They love people, kids, our cats, etc. and always bark and warn us when people or neighbors walk past our house on the sidewalk or if they hear or see raccoons etc. Great guard dogs. I had Two shepherds, I never herd of cages,we all ways had our dogs in their own beds, and never let them in the bed rooms, and at night they had the run of the whole house, and every one who came to the door got a good barking, the.children how ever could talk to them and the dogs obeyed every word,to me that is fully family bonded, dog relationship, all so a very good dog club, and insurance with a well respected vet.

We crated our gsd when we go to the mall because the neighbors complained about him barking. I hated it till 3 weeks ago when we got home after 1h30m and got attacked by 3 robbers who were IN the house. My husband was badly hurt. The same complaining neighbors came to help. They agreed that he should NEVER BE CRATED AGAIN. He was absolutely crazy because they teased him.

I only crated my GSD when she was a puppy at night until she was fully house broken which was about 8 weeks old & after that she slept in the bed with me until she got bigger than me 😂 then we built her a bed the same height as my bed that way she still felt like part of the pack. She passed away nine days ago and I’m still grieving on a daily basis German shepherds are the best protectors, companions and she was my best friend. So, I do need to add that her trainer said not tofeed her raw meat which I never did because it gives them a taste of blood 🩸 If you get your dog from a backyard puppy mill then that’s when you get the crazy GSD did give her cooked chicken.bone.her trainer put her on pro plan Purina and trust me he trains every military dog police dog. I think he knows best.

I really like your comment on the hip dysplasia. This is very prominent in these dogs. As far as some of the other things. He hasn’t been contributing to the food bill. So the meat is being rationed for the unemployment duration. He believes it is his job to protect the couch and check when the door bell rings. I don’t know why he thinks it’s always for him? No crate training Saber has the run of the house. So far no problem when he’s been in for 6-8 hours. Before I retired.

Ben lives in a small flat nowadays. I raised him on a farm with a big garden. I had zero problem with the transition.
No crate. He sleeps while I work.
He gets enough excise. A lot.
Crate training is great, but personally I wouldn't crate a GSD.🤗
His sister yes because she has anxiety, but he placates her. She always hides behind her brother and seeks reassurance from him
You should require a hip dysplasia free certificate from a responsible breeder before buying a puppy. Responsible breeders are stamping Hip dysplasia out and should be supported.

Yes, Don't shout at your German Shepherd, This can upset their nerves and affect them mentally.
Also don't feed them chicken on the bone when they are too young, their teeth may not be fully developed and able to handle chicken bones and there is a risk they may choke on large splinters of bone if not able to chew sufficiently.

Crate training? That's absolute BS. I had German Shepherds for nearly 40 years and never did crate training & never had a single problem when leaving them alone. Also what is said about the food is also BS. I had one GS that was from a pedigree bloodline that grew to 28 inches to the shoulder and weighed in at 126lb when fully grown & never fed him raw meat all the time and the food he did eat was plenty nutritious otherwise he wouldn't have grown to the size he did & turned out so good that even the local police wanted to buy him. Basically this video is crap

I learned nothing new from this video.
more over, the crate????? can you explain?? doesn't make sense at all in my opinion.
allow me to say this, since you are missing the point about what animals are about.
imagine a stranger entering the home while the dog is locked in the crate!!!!
how frustrated the dog would be, more so if trained to guard. didn't you also say that they need to work, to feel they served a purpose.... ?
on another hand, animals in general prefer to avoid interactions with humans and would flee unless, of course, they are trained to guard/ defend their territory.
in any case, the 8th mistake would be to follow the wrong advice. in this case, crating a dog who need to move freely and work if and when needed.
