Belt in oil sump. I can see it now. You oil pump belt needs replacing that'll be $6500 in labor and $12.99 in parts
Boost lord be
Havent replaced any on 1.0 EcoBoosts yet... some have well over 100k miles on them.
And $20 in shop supplies
Boost lord ,oh wait you can't make any money at $12.99/ the belt would be $500.= $7,000.00 replacement cost.
that was one of the first things i frowned at
Engineer; Belt drive oil pump
Me; your fired
Skye Iorfida yeah its giving me the fear...
And urea filler next to the fuel filler.
Can any of you spell?
@@19grand hahahahaha true aye
Idiotic! Saving money during manufacturing while sacrificing reliability. Why can’t these idiots understand consumers are willing to pay premium for quality?
That’s why the Mercedes OM616 diésel engine is king!
Efficiency, performance, refinement....
Didn’t mention longevity hey boys 👍
All the talk about power and efficiency yet gave no numbers...
Trey K no power no doubt
All things are this much better: |.....|
It's more tq then the v8 but less then the ecoboost from the last time I heard. The numbers are out there
105, 130, 170 hp and also more powerful versions with 213 and 238 hp (biturbo version, Ford Ranger Raptor, Ford Ranger T6 2019)

Honda: I bet you can’t build a clean Diesel engine just like the new Crv
Ford: Hold my oil
*Hold my spanner*
Hold my safety and built quality
Ford: "Hahahaha honda, look at are engineering, we have made Much cleaner car then you... "
Honda: "..... How did you solve your oil problem? "
Ford: " ........ "
Ford: look Honda I have a better edge over u all cases. Look at our pickup trucks like F150 WHICH ARE SUPER RELIABLE. THEY HAVE BETTER OIL CONSUMPTION SYSTEM THAN YOU. SHOW ME YOUR PICKUP TRUCKS LIKE THE FI50.
HONDA: NOOOOOOOOOO. THIS CAN'T HAPPEN
It's same as new dragon engine by Ford..
Oil bath timing belt? Truly a "throw away" engine.
why don't you just say. " the all new ford disposable diesel engine "
You hit the nail on the head. Ford is just building what average consumer wants. Something that works well and has high performance for 1 to 2 years because after that who cares if its reliable anyways. Its time to get the new latest and greatest like the neighbors just got. All new vehicles are throw away vehicles. Like the new chevy truck with the turbo 4 cylinder engine or the hemmi v8 with e torque
thats a good one
Nailed it
If the engine is disposed of the car probably will be with it. Bad for consumer, but good for Ford.
AMEN, but that is the trend anymore, junk engines = more engines sold.
When it comes time to change the oil pump belt, I foresee a lot of used vans coming onto the second hand market.
Ford engineers forgot to put water pump in between engine block and the head
How much plastic is in that engine which will harden and crack due to heat?
Plenty.
Doesn't matter they won't see high mileage/life with that belt drive lube pump.
@@PatrickBaptist indeed how can they think that was a smart idea? They say are cambelts need changing Evey 60-80k Miles or Evey 5 years, how is this going to last?? At least put a chain on it that would last years and years...
@@Chappers.Gaming Right, that is the new trend though, make engine unable to last, that equates to more engines being sold and parts.
I'll take my good ol 2000 F350 with the 7.3 powerstroke any day over any brand new engine. I've got close to 490k miles on the odo and it still runs strong and hasn't seen any major engine repairs, fires u[ good in the cold and I don't even bother with a block heater, just trans and rear diff couldn't last that long. Plus I can brew my own fuel without worrying about screwing over a high pressure fuel pump with the HEUI injection.
@@Chappers.Gaming Cambelts need to be changed once in 240 000 km according to Australian specs 2.0 EcoBlue. This means never for 80% of owners.
I definitely can't see any potential problems if that belt driving the oil pump fails.
And I'm sure that when it comes to replacing that belt-in-oil which lives deep inside the engine the garage will complete the job in 20 mins.
jonty cthe king r u kidding .the only time you will know when the belt has gone .is when the oil light comes on? and then many times the damage has already been done . trust me i am a doctor .

So a gear or chain drive will never fail but a lubed belt will? Ive had two oil pump drives fail at 130k and 150k due to stripped gears.
Generally speaking when somebody refers to something as "Game Changing" it rarely is.
Evil Empire hence SoundCloud rappers
It is game changing from something working to something in the shop after warranty runs out
I don't know man look at segways /s
Mine has had 2 engines in 3 years. 77000 miles & an engine change required, it's a game changer alright.
As an engineer myself, all I can say is : “really, belt drive!” Could you go any cheaper and just use string maybe.
Lmao. Shoelaces maybe
haha. or maybe use a cooper wire😂
SCREAMS IN CRACKED CYLINDER WALLS AND HYDROLOCKED ENGINES
Belt driven oil pump wow real smart ,another winner from ford
After watching this I’m gonna keep on driving my 1995 OBS 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel. No DEF, NO Belt drive oil pump, no over head cam, and no belt drive timing belt. Only a mechanical oil pump, pushrod heads and Hewie electric/mechanically driven injectors. Just what I like, tough and reliable with proper maintenance.
Did that man just say belt driven oil pump??
Yeah. Regardless of teeth in the belt - they all sap energy through tension and rolling force. It's less efficient than a gear train and more prone to breakage (no oil = ded engine).
This is simply Ford making things that cannot be repaired. Another example is the sealed cam system - that's a whole new cam set and metal holder/cradle which will cost far too much.
This isn't about eco and saving the planet - this is about giving work to Ford service dealerships.
Don't even get me started on adblu injection. Combine adblu to the fuel figures quoted and add in the chemical processing to make adblu and ship it.
My son's a car mechanic and the Ecoboost engines are only good for 70k miles and then they fall to bits.
Why not gear to gear?
@@jackking5567 I changed to diesels for similar reasons.. aswell as high torque at low revs, found petrol engines deteriorate or become expensive around 100K whereas never had a diesel wear or lose performance
@@crispincurtis8585 Cause gear to gear isn't as cost effective, and is louder which most consumers don't like loud engines.
@@alextran8188 kinda hard to beat gear to gear for reliability wouldn't you say?😊 Bullock's with cost effective when cars cost what they do these days eh
Rubber belts for guaranteed maintenance intervals! Thanks Ford for ensuring we have to chance bending valves when these snap, eventually.
"Special bearings"
Ben Lauderdale Aren’t all bearings made of “special” metals. 🤫🤫🤫🤫
Ben Lauderdale yeah we saw those in the 6.4 right?
'' Special '' means more expensive in dealership language ; wait for it ! ;)
Ave taught us about special frictionless bearings iirc
The first thing that crossed my mind when I heard that was the ceramic turbo bearings in the early 6.7 Power Stroke. They turned to dust within the first 50k!
That belt driven oil pump looks very sketchy
I was excited for a little bit, but the longer I watched, the less excited I got. And why the heck would they go to not only a timing belt, but also a belt driven oil pump - both of which look brutally difficult to get to?!?!?! I don't think I'd never own one of those. Sure it's cool for the first 70,000 miles, but after that, it looks like it'll basically be disposable.
Yup my son's a car mechanic and tells me the Ecoboost engines are great but once at 70k miles they implode or have too many problems.
A belt driven oil pump???!?!? It's like asking for a belt-driven life support machine!!!! Gears sprockets, and chains, all the way!!!!!
It's like Ford engineers start with clean sheet of paper, have some great ideas, but there is always that one engineer, who slips his planned obsolescence ideas in without everyone noticing it.
Apple_Marty Czech
It's just crazy. The moment in the 1980's when engineers and the cost accounting bean-counters became comfortable with timing belts in interference engines, was the beginning of the end of the automobile.
I don't mind interference engine, as long as it has atleast chain-driven oilpump. Better yet, chain-driven camshafts. I mean, any engine can do milion miles with proper maintanance. The difference is when you really start abusing it. Something is gonna break. And nowadays engines are made to not just break, but to self-destruct when abused. Thumbs up for 2L diesel, but thumbs down the dorky belt-driven oil pump.
Apple_Marty Czech
Yeah, but a timing belt failure on an interference engine is just as fatal as an oil pump failure would be. The engine I was thinking of was the little 4 cylinder diesels used in the 1980's Volkswagen Golfs and Rabbits. It was a an awesome engine, and extremely fuel efficient, but it was an interference engine with a timing belt, and many have died because of this.
I have old VW engine, with belt on it and its old as 20 years. Still running. Belt been changed every 4 years or so and until recently it was always filled up with oil bit over the top mark on the oil stick.
It ain't no performer, nor sounding great, but it goes. It's bulletproof design, the relic of 70's/80's technology.
Belt driven oil pump
To make sure your Ford needs towing - Ford 2017
I was thinking of getting a Ford Ranger Raptor in the Philippines. But when i saw that unsealed belt driven oil pump @ 0:50, i changed my mind. 🤦♂️

A handful of wildtrak owners are crying over injector issues of the 2.0 🤣🤣🤣
I love how easy it is to removed the egr and Def system from the 2.0 and tune it. Thank you ford
Egr build in to the cylinder head? What a great idea, if egr fails now you will need new cylinder head...
I dont know what kind of drugs do thet take, but i definitely want to try it as well.
Aleksander Tabaczyński I was thinking the exact same thing what stupid idea
Aleksander Tabaczyński It’s removable and replaceable. No separate cooling loop needed, no huge hang-on external cooler, easy slid-out replacement. It’s an excellent design.
It's Detroit, so I suspect they smoke a lot of crack at Ford.
Are the front pulleys turning in opposite directions?? And belt driven oil pump inside the engine??? Come on guys!!!
Fords pevious 2.0 diesel Fiasco wasnt ennough?
I like this motor till they talked about belt drivin oil pump and timing then I finally said I wouldn't buy one after it said they had a intergraded egr system in the cylinder head.
So when there is an egr failure, you replace the cylinder head? I'm just curious!
looks like only the port is in the head(in a watercooled jacket i supose).
Mercedes EGR ports are going thru the head since nearly 20 years.
The big problem with the egr is the valve clogging.
you probably can't get around the channels clogging up, maybe with a special coating on all the ports...
Egr and cylinder heads always work out great lmao
We should start placing bets on how long it takes for the EGR ports to clog!!! Ok, ok... All jokes aside, what do you think... Second biggest class action lawsuit since the 6.0l ?! :)
Jordan no they will steal a design that works
Sealed camshaft module means your screwed if you wanna upgrade cams 👍 awesome.
This is what you call a disposable engine...
Difficulty of maintenance aka maintenance free... = disposable...
AKA chevy Vaga.
Yea the Chevy Vega LOL...
Franco Vision nowadays, they all are...
Yep lease it sell it scrap it...
You should get some cummins engineers... I heard they make decent diesels.
Poopy Pants diggity yeah they do make great engines, but they STILL haven't figured out how to engineer the other stuff that _constantly_ fail and cause the typical dodge oil leak.
that random dude named mike no oil leak on my cummins and i know alot of cummins that dont leak oil
Poopy Pants diggity ..who do you think owns cummins? ford.. research it..
mxr they do now own cummins they bought a 10.8% share in 1990 then in 1998 cummins bought it back and ford has not owned any of cummins since so research it
Ford tries to hard. Cummins is legendary cat is neck and neck duramax is second best n ford well is explained better by amiri king
We've had countless wet belts fail. Costing us a fortune. Funnily enough ford are recalling many of them. Maybe they should have learned of the 1.8 lynx engines
A disposable, single use engine! Just what I needed!
And I will buy it.
Not at all. It's very well engineered.
Does it catch on fire?
So when do the oil pump belts get changed and I bet the engine is fucked when the belt fails
famas482 just like my 5.4's high mileage spark plugs which failed and seized in the heads at 74,000k
The day after the warranty is up.
Belt driven oil pump lmfao that has to be the dumbest thing ever made. That belt fails and it's bye bye motor.
Yup, but to be fair there's a lot of engines where if a belt fails you're fucked. But.... those belts aren't bathed in oil.
Meme Man did that happen with the last wet belt ford did, hmmm no. Someone's deluded lol, sorry
Chief engineer: All right everyone we're making an all new 4 cylinder diesel, what are some suggestions for it?
Engineer in the back: BeLt DRiVeN OiL PuMp
Chief engineer: I like this guy
there's a big word around the Dodge new 2019 1500 four- cylinder diesel that's going to be from Cummins. and I think they're going to be using them in the Jeeps and all around the cars as well which I'm sorry but Cummins engines are proven to last forever their engines cost more money for a reason very reliable
Have fun in your fiat
Wander if it's a redo of the venerable old 4cyl Cummins. With some modern injection systems? That would be cool.
Jeep is the V6 3.0 diesel. The old jeep liberty had a diesel that was great, hard to find anyone letting them go... to bad its ugly as fk.
The new Cummins is "supposedly" gotten rid of the EGR system all together, (grape vine to a Cummins engineering tech I know)
I mean so did the 7.3 powerstroke and idi
Coolbreeze0988 Chrysler is as much a 'Fiat' as they were a 'Mercedes' when owned by Diamler. Kind of a "um...no" on that one, sry.
This is one of the best videos describing the new technology on new generation IC engines. Although I would like if you could have expanded on the turbocharger selection and pressures involved used to downsize this engine from 2.2 to 2.0ltr.
Anyway, great video, much better than Ford US and a guy talking rubbish about a 7.6 liter engine
Next level of impossible to repair and very hi service priced engine.
Throw away engine.
Yeaaah,good robust powerful engine,for almost 10.000 km :)))
yeah as if you have a ford
I'm so glad I own a pre-DEF 2006 Mercedes sprinter with 2.7 litre diesel.
That DEF Gizmo is something to avoid.
1.What are service intervals on this engine?
2.Does it performs active dpf regen, when revs are up a bit and engine noise changes, motor fan on?
How long will a maintenance free belt last at the inside bottom of engine last?
Just one more thing to make urea base fertilizer to rise in cist
No need to steal fertilizer. You can pee directly into the convenient urea filler.
Everyone cribbing on about belt driven oil pump VW have the same set up on there engines too
How does the EGR system work with the turbo? Are they feeding exhaust gas on the input side of the turbo compressor? That seems like a good way to ruin turbochargers.
How much oil does it use though?
In 1970'ties Lada had cylinder offset too, so... =D
all prius do it for years too
It's fine when the belt snaps and the engine seizes ford will issue a recall to fit a alarm warning the belt broke instead of fixing the issue
Seem like no one trusts Ford anymore...😣
Ford knew they had big issues with the petrol 1.0-1.6 ecoboost engines they issued a recall in America 2014 but not until 2018 in the UK even though they the exact same engines so why wait another 4 years to recall it ? That's the reason I don't really trust them anymore
I love how the two belt driven wheels about 30 seconds in doesn't rotate the same way xD
The animator must've thought of cogs overlapping each other while animating this
what about freezing fuel filter under the car did you fix it???
Guys complaining about the oil and timing belt, I think you are thinking old rubber timing belts that did not like oil.
It appears that Ford has solved this issue as both the timing and oil pump belt run within the crankcase.
Clever. Effectively a modern chain ... Here is some reading material on this new type of belt (which never needs changing): www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.ngfeurope.com/~/media/NGF%2520Europe/Site%2520Content/News/Automotive%2520Design%2520Europe%2520Feature.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiyxZ7e59_hAhVVWysKHVDiBuIQFjABegQIDhAE&usg=AOvVaw1RecKRtJbfa9A49jvI8H4C
Is this actually ford engine or psa collaboration? The wet belts are a nightmare idea, certainly not designed for long life and easy maintenance.
It’s pure Ford, not even psa would design such a poor engine
I wonder how long the belt will last when you skip a few oil changes or when the belt snaps the engine grenades at 70mph fun times.
May i know how is its cooling system design. I noticed these 2.0 turbo engines on the next-gen rangers/everests does not have the typical fan attached to the engine's shaft.
A belt driven oil pump? Can you say maintenance nightmare?
why? change the belt when its due, no problem!
Ford 300 inline six still the best engine made by ford to this day
Cool so how much more power can i make by removing the egr, dpf cat and piss injections system?
so you have to pay for that also every time you change oil in your suv. how often do we have to fill this adblue?
So how do we make this bad boy roll some serious coal
Max Crypto hahahahahaha
yessssssssss
yeah Ford and diesel in the same sentence are tough to hear....as far as that goes Ford and ECO anything can't be good .. Oh the humanity....
no maintenance oil pump belt is that true? I need more then 2.0 too drive a van .
Just like the 2.3l lol is it going to burn coolent when I get it ??? Will it hydro lock it's self and have block warpage and blown head gaskets will it be open deck pos??? How often will the integrated egr go out...are the belts actually rubber or r u going to use string. Eco boost ??? Where is the Eco and that's not much boost but at least got that right.... so many questions so little space

Hi Ford. I'm a car enthusiast. Could you please tell me why the swirl in the combustion chamber helps to increase fuel efficiency?
Ford can you tell me where is this efficiency in this engine since i made the comparation between Ford Fiesta 2009 and this new model with same engine HP and the consume is the same?
A belt? Not a chain? Apparently Ford is still in the 90s.
News flash, giving your engine a fancy environmentally friendly name, and having an englishman narrate your videos does not make it innovative.
Don't forget $1500/year for Uranus.......I mean Urea.
See how this video is from Ford Europe? That’s probably why it’s an English guy narrating it.
Mark, wow you're a dipshit. First there's nothing better about a belt except profit. And it's Found On Road Dead. Ford isn't spelled Fodr.

Mason Clark belt is way better than chain
Oh yes, the built in point of failure belt driven oil pump. Great.
Will this one also fail after 30k miles like the eco boost engines?

how do you deal with valve lash?
so much innovation :) so much future problems :) maintenance free belt ... driving the oil pump... i see a lot of seized engines. but hey... it's eco :)

How does it stand between Ford 2 litre PSA and to Renaults 1.46litre K9K which gives up to 70mpg? I changed from a K9K to PSA engine as I wanted a better engine, although K9K was very economical I preferred PSA as a stronger unit
In which year models and car models it will be used please?
Oil pumps should NEVER be a maintenance item.
Good luck cleaning that EGR system...
I live in the us and i like small diesels next vw im getting is a diesel jetta are ford small diesels any good? how long do they last? are they reliable?
Thank you very much. This lesson is been very good. (In Istanbul )
As a heavy equipment and truck mechanic I absolutely hate the direction FoMoCo has taken in the way they are designing and building their trucks. They are / will be long term night mare for the owners
Thanks for being so specific. I'll be sure and buy a Toyota then
Paul Bjarnason yup.... you can't beat the manual trans 6spd
No, unfortunately, Ford does not offer a manual transmission in its trucks!
I'll keep my tree killing 7.3l thanks.
Daniel Erb I just wrote the same thing bud. Well almost but yes 7.3 bulit proof no stupid emissions
It does quite the opposite of kill trees. It actually gives them CO2 which they need to survive.
Gravemind my man you are a genius
Gravemind you are right, but a little too much
Saw a p-7100 injection pump for the 7.3.. Was drooling
So what happens when the egr passage through the head gets blocked with carbon
I've been driving one of these for about a year.
It's done 47,000 miles and it misfires under load.
The clutch is also not very well, it's slipping despite having a typical tradesman life
......absolutely horrible design. all the way thru.....diesels are great, just not this backwards design
Hey ford! - if you re-made a 51 ford f100 (just like it was manufactured back then) I'd be interested.
How are the tappet set if you have no way to check the clearance once the cam cover is tightern down?
They are hydraulic so self adjusting
How is lower gear of timing belt spined? It's not on the cranckshaft....
Why not put a chain on the oil pump?
How much hp?
because a chain is louder and has more friction than a belt and could lenght over time
fnnor, and could last the life of the engine.... Belts also lengthen and have plenty of friction. The better answer is why not gear driven, and the answer is... wait for it.... money.
an oil driven belt runs in the 1.0 Ecoboost for many Years now and there arent any Problems with this way of engineering
You mean a belt driven oil pump, never heard of an oil driven belt. I don't know about that, what I do know is that there's no freaken way I'd rely on it. But heck I won't even rely on belt driven cams, so....
Howard Rourke gear driven would add a lot if weight and inertia. Also there could be disadvantages regarding vibrations
Ford has really lost there way
Always last to the party
I am the biggest ford fan boy
And sorry to say that ford are not building the cars I want anymore
They talk about one ford
And still not bringing any good cars to U.K.
Everyone seems to be complaining about the same things they complained about when EFI first hit the market. Too complex, too many thing to break, they don't make them like they used to. Thank God they don't make them like they used too! I don't like getting 10mpg, changing spark plugs every 30,000 miles and oil every 3,000!
Next, a 1.0 Liter powerstroke to go in all F250 Super duty trucks with fords new CVT transmission for great fuel economy and power output!
Another engine each got a belt running on oil? U dont learn the lesson with 1.8tdci engine failure timing belt running on oil and snapped? Not good idea special oil pump driven by a wet belt.
because ? why going to a louder chain that got also more friction than the belt ?
fnnor loud chain? Never heard that engines have issues with chain, if u change the oil on the right interval u shouldn't have problems. And the chain on that engines is small they only drive the fuel pump then a belt goes from the pump to the cameshaft. Still think belt running on oil is not a clever idea. Or why not change the design and put one belt from the bottom to the top and not running in oil like another engines do like psa 2.0 diesel 1.6 tdci etc. This is mine opinion off course someone maybe like the idea belt running on oil snap and pay big bill to repair or have a chain goes louder and pay only for replacement of the chain and not open the engine to fix the bent valves. Each is more cheaper? Replace chain or replace the valves? Replace the chain off course.
that oil driven belt is running since many years now in the Ford 1.0 Ecoboost and its do its job fine. No problems at all.
fnnor but this will be place on pick up and suv. i think its not good idea for the long run
@@axores20 if you have a chain driven engine and the chain snaps you will still bend valves, if thats how the engine is designed. also, the dealer told me the 2.0TDCI was a wet belt, same as the 1.8TDCI.
and yes the reason manufacturers went to belts in the first place was PURELY due to belts being quieter. and in most cases no less reliable IF you changed them!
how can a belt driven oil pump get an award
non serviceable belt? whats it made out of?
How the aluminium lader frame gonna reduce the engine vibration???
This not argument with company
I just wanna know about it
