They'll show Schindler's List because it's a historic tragedy told through the Hollywood lens. This movie is far rawer with some messages, regardless of whether you're on the Right or Left, are true.
The significance of this scene is to not give up on youth so easily. Kids will come across and attach themselves to some crazy ideas. And may even act out on some of them. But short of murder or similarly unforgivable acts, a teacher or a parent should still try to impart some guidance their way.
Sure, go work at one of these schools full of these "at-risk kids" and see how quickly your attitude changes. The fact is troubled kids like Danny are the exception, not the rule. Most are not smart or come from a good home like Danny. Most are dumb, live in a dysfunctional household and have no impulse control. For every success story Sweeney has with someone like Danny, he has at least a dozen who never change.
The original ending had Derek shaving his head again after Danny was killed... which some people said it made sense... but HOW would that have made sense?! He already learned that Cameron was full of shit and was just using them to sell video tapes... Not to mention he found out in jail that the Aryan Brotherhood were booty bandits that didnt mind gays and mexicans as long as they could grape men and sell drugs with them... So why would he go back go that at the end of the movie? 🤣🤦🏾♂️
Valid point. One could assume Derek simply started over with the grievous memory of his father's death, which put him on the path to begin with and Danny's senseless death sent him right back to where he started. The hypocrisy he learned of with Cameron and The Ayrian Brotherhood were minor setbacks to someone who believed in fundamental White Supremacy.

Look no further than Ginnie Thomas, wife of the notoriously sexually abusive justice Clarence Thomas. She was rescued from an actual end times religious cult and there are videos of her being deprogrammed and speaking out about the exact methods that pulled her in. And a decade or 2 later, she's chartering busses with her black husband's money that are transporting rope and lumber to construct a gallows to symbolically or actually hang the vice president for refusing to throw the Constitution in the trash can so that a vain greedy 5-times-bankrupted mob-connected failed casino operator who builds golden idols to himself with embezzled charity money can avoid the embarrassment of losing an election. People can change, in some ways. But people like that are weak minded and weak willed by definition and you can never ever turn your back on them for a moment no matter how rehabilitated they are by temporary circumstance.
The saddest part of the movie is how it went around and in the end came full circle. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen this but, this is a film about neo nazis and how it ruined his brother’s life. It’s a great film.
The "home video" footage showing the brothers at the beach was particularly sad, reminded me of similar work done in Philadelphia showing Tom Hanks' character as a child with his family. They didn't know hate or prejudice, just innocent people enjoying life. It's very sad.
Wait, are you talking about the spoiler involving Derek [Edward Norton’s character] murdering the African-American home intruder which then sent him to prison, or Derek being violently assaulted in prison by his fellow skinheads which made him ultimately drop his racist views, or Danny [Edward Furlong’s character] being shot and killed by a fellow African-American student at the end of the movie?
Spoiler: Sweeney is an awesome educator; a real shame that Danny was not able to continue his one on one classes with him. Given his new outlook on life at the end, he would have thrived and Sweeney and Derek would have been proud. I definitely would have loved to have one on one discussion classes with a teacher like Sweeney.
Something else I noticed on rewatch is how Derek was a racist but the only two men that there were the most positive influences in his life were black. When he went to jail none of his white supremacist "friends", not even his girlfriend, came to visit him nor did they help out his family. It was two black strangers then helped Derek out

Huh? It can be learned at any point. And unlearned at any point. Just easier to get kids to follow generally
@@rickwilliams967 it’s far more difficult to unlearn than learn, so it’d make sense to prevent it in the first place. But, I’m not naive. Getting the right things done nowadays isn’t really easy either.

That chick on the 📞at 1:05 looks rather pretty. Shame Danny did a bad report
If Sweeney would’ve expelled him, Danny might have lived just a bit longer 🤷♂️
Oh no a white
Suprematist died Nooooo!!! We lost such a great mind in society… LOL anyways
Comments on Captain Sisko will be removed from now on. They are boring and irrelevant.
Great movie
I agree with Sweeney here that the teacher shouldn't have been mad at Danny. Danny followed the assignment.
A brutal mass murdering dictator shouldn't be venerated as a civil rights hero. That was the point Murray was making.
@@napalm5 At worst then he should have just given him an "F" for failing to do the assignment, but why's he in the principal's office? This teacher simply doesn't agree with him, even though the assignment was to write a paper on any book arguing for civil rights, which is technically what that book was about in the eyes of the author.
Danny was being a smart ass and just trying to get a rise out of Sweeney and it was maybe a misguided attempt to impress his brother. Murray called it out correctly but in error assumed that Derek was behind it (whereas it was probably Seth or someone else)
Later this is made apparent when Danny boasts to Derek about pissing off Sweeney with the paper and Derek was not amused by his stunt.
@@napalm5 why? because he lost. Why Winston Churchill or Andrew Jackson held in the same standards.
@@ricardomarin487 well for starters they didn't call for the extermination of an entire race as Hitler did
