    The significance of this scene is to not give up on youth so easily. Kids will come across and attach themselves to some crazy ideas. And may even act out on some of them. But short of murder or similarly unforgivable acts, a teacher or a parent should still try to impart some guidance their way.

    • @kommisar.
      @kommisar. 5 месяцев назад

      Sure, go work at one of these schools full of these "at-risk kids" and see how quickly your attitude changes. The fact is troubled kids like Danny are the exception, not the rule. Most are not smart or come from a good home like Danny. Most are dumb, live in a dysfunctional household and have no impulse control. For every success story Sweeney has with someone like Danny, he has at least a dozen who never change.

    The original ending had Derek shaving his head again after Danny was killed... which some people said it made sense... but HOW would that have made sense?! He already learned that Cameron was full of shit and was just using them to sell video tapes... Not to mention he found out in jail that the Aryan Brotherhood were booty bandits that didnt mind gays and mexicans as long as they could grape men and sell drugs with them... So why would he go back go that at the end of the movie? 🤣🤦🏾‍♂️

    • @RoosterMontgomery
      @RoosterMontgomery 4 месяца назад

      Valid point. One could assume Derek simply started over with the grievous memory of his father's death, which put him on the path to begin with and Danny's senseless death sent him right back to where he started. The hypocrisy he learned of with Cameron and The Ayrian Brotherhood were minor setbacks to someone who believed in fundamental White Supremacy.

      Idk, remember January 7th, 2021? When all your MAGA neighbors quietly took down the yard signs and facebook posts and finally had the moment of shame and realization about how close to the brink they'd been led? I remember.
      And yet here we are. There's no such thing as de-nazification because fascisim is the test of the strength of the soul.
      Not to say many liberals aren't just as weak and only on the right side of history by accident of birth or associated... but anyone who is actively involved in these kinds of movements has deep fundamental flaws that will always- ALWAYS- make them vulnerable to cultish behavior.
      Look no further than Ginnie Thomas, wife of the notoriously sexually abusive justice Clarence Thomas. She was rescued from an actual end times religious cult and there are videos of her being deprogrammed and speaking out about the exact methods that pulled her in.
      And a decade or 2 later, she's chartering busses with her black husband's money that are transporting rope and lumber to construct a gallows to symbolically or actually hang the vice president for refusing to throw the Constitution in the trash can so that a vain greedy 5-times-bankrupted mob-connected failed casino operator who builds golden idols to himself with embezzled charity money can avoid the embarrassment of losing an election.
      People can change, in some ways. But people like that are weak minded and weak willed by definition and you can never ever turn your back on them for a moment no matter how rehabilitated they are by temporary circumstance.

    The saddest part of the movie is how it went around and in the end came full circle. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen this but, this is a film about neo nazis and how it ruined his brother’s life. It’s a great film.

    Sweeney is an awesome educator; a real shame that Danny was not able to continue his one on one classes with him. I own all kinds of "bad" books and am probably on a government watchlost for it. But everyone who wants to push back against these ideas should own and have read these books so they know, in minute detail, how to dismantle the ideas and counterfactual history contained within.
    Also, Avery Brooks is amazing and its terrific to see Star Trek's greatest captain in other roles.

      The problem is that a lot of Nazism has to remain taboo.
      If people actually read the book or if they actually put subtitles on his speeches ppl would see that there was a lot more to National Socialism than just rounding up Jews.
      The reason that it remains this way today and the fact that you cannot separate the Jewish issue from the rest of the platform is that there was a lot of good in their policies.
      What a miserable pile of shit Germany was in the Weimar years compared to the powerhouse it became under AH... He was Times Man of the Year for a reason... They literally did a 180 and created a standard of living that surpassed the US. They did it without debt, unified the country and revitalized the whole economy, respected both workers rights and company's profits... And then some...
      But we cannot explore those ideas because it's a threat to the status quo so the whole thing is shut down by the antisemitism argument.

      The fact you call "white privilege" a "high brow fanatical theory" says more about you than what it actually says about the concept.
      You're free to hold your own views on whatever thing you want to, but recognizing that, racial relations being as they are, historically and culturally, a certain group of people is more likely to face discrimination, both casual and systemic, than others. And that group isn't white folk.
