At least for the first two seconds it looks better, because it is just way too saturated and bright to the point the characters appear gloomy, it hurts to watch, plus the brightness/exposure is poorly set, which becomes noticeable from a certain angle. Besides, the fire isn't really supposed to be there - it's just what James is seeing in his own perception, thus making sense it not being able to fully interact with the scenery.

The 1.0 stairway scene lacks focused direction. For the sake of realism you lose a lot of visual clarity and speculation on whether it's real or not. The flesh walls needed to stay tho.
I love the old Glimpses of the Past sound effect- It's just the old SH2 pickup sound effect but pitched down, fitting for the fact that they're... well, Glimpses of the Past.
They should have used the sound from the original when you selected "continue" or "new game" for those Glimpses of the Past. "Begin Nightmare". I love that sound. So creepy.
I guess they wanted it to be more subtle. Either way, I think people will still complain whether or not they kept it in the final product. There's no winning with SH fans.
I can totally explain the fire scene color and visual changes. its simple: oversaturated fire and heatwarp everywhere + depending on the fire emission as a light source itself means you lose all the hard work and detail in the character acting. They also dont have a lot in the game with just straight "orange" fire, theres a lot of amber tones with the diffused light of the environment leading up to that scene, so coloring the fire now matches it a lot better. The bloom is really overkill in 1.0 too, they really made it less so, you can actually see now. The characters are now really clear and well lit, its a great mix of both lighting them proper and the fire being a main element in the scene. The staircase scene reminds me a lot of the more "heated" scenes in hereditary now, iykyk lol, no spoilers. Wonder if it was a reference for the new pallete. They also wanted to downplay how "hot" it actually was and made the flames feel more psychological , with them ramping up a bit more at the end, note the new placement of the fire "closing" behind her like a curtain in 1.03. A ton of work and great changes all around in framing and composition here. As someone who has done comp with fire, its easy to start at 11 and realize you need to turn things down and mess with color a lot more. Fire is super hard to "play with" in realtime lit scenes too.. pun unintended. Add the dynamic range / hdri you can mess with in modern games and it doesnt surprise me they did an edit with more subtle tones
Thanks for the info, great video! This is something I do love in having physical discs: you can play games before they patch (and sometimes DOWNGRADE features/graphics/useful glitches). For example, being able to play the version 1.00 of Red Dead Redemption 2, or even unpatched version of RDR1 on 360/PS3 to enjoy the mananimals glitches, or the homing molotovs hahaha.
Maybe it was an artistic choice. Only Angela is supposed to be able to see the fire, so the light bouncing off everything doesn't make sense from James' POV.
I'm betting they made it make sound so more players would find it. Also the other comment is right, can totally be sitting there running without moving.
Thank you for a wonderful video! I can't help but hear Twin Perfect's narration during many of these. I'm not even joking, in many aspects the differences between the April, 15th and 1.03 feel like those between the OG and the HD Collection. I guess HDC is that cursed
I'm honestly surprised to see that they changed a lot in the update. I'm glad I have experienced the 1.03 update on my first playthrough. Though, it is such a shame that they changed some of Angela's section like the Flesh walls and the fire lighting. Not sure what was the point of changing that.
Lol remember saying pyramid head in the remakes looks like doing a Fortnite dance compare to the original where his just explicit on the movement. Be fun if you get options to play version of the game
After reading some of these comments it all boils down to this: it's all subjective. In the end, they made the choice to patch to 1.03. Some will like it, some won't. It's always a tough decision for the devs to go through with these kinds of choices (trust me, it really is as I've had to design/develop some stuff for university). The game is still great, the game still looks great and plays well. It's really cool when people make these kinds of videos though, because it's a kind of catalogue/record keeping, and personally I'll always appreciate that.
they should patch that old fire scene back in tbh, everything else is a solid upgrade though. i do kinda like just being able to see out of the cell you are locked in waiting for a jumpscare that never comes instead of something banging on the door tho
They need to bring the fire back from 1.0. I thought the fire in updated version was bland when I first got to that scene. They also need to bring the old dog ending back because it is hilarious.
They really did Angie dirty tho, the 'alive' flesh walls were part of the visual metaphor and heavily symbolical, getting rid of it somehow weakens the last part of the cutscene (it is perfect otherwise, I wouldn't miss the metal pumps straight on the face when you enter her room in the OG if they kept the last part like in 1.00... oh well). And as for the staircase scene, I also preferred the realistic blazing fire, it really gets the point across that it's Angela's nightmare we're seeing RN. The greenish-yellow hue is thematically James' color palette, as Eddie's is grey-blue and Angela's hell is rosy/pink/red. The red shadows effect on her face was PHENOMENAL, she really did look like a lost soul engulfed in hellfire... ç_ç PH's movements are cool either way, still scary and creepy WTF. I thought for a moment they were going to give us a frontal shot of the mannequins scene LOL
Although I'd argue that the staircase scene shows us what JAMES perceives is Angela's hell, I agree. They could have gone for a mix btw the blazing saturated red and the fact that it is not really there, perhaps by showing its effects on Angela's face but not James idk Back pedaling on the flesh walls was a misstep, I'm afraid they made them censor it (I swear these days the difference btw shocking and offensive is LOST to the West wtf)
I feel bad cause the fire stair scene looks sm better (yes her face needed a couple tweeks) but I think they got scared with the backlash and changed her scenes which resulted in a slightly lower quality outcome probably cause they had to rush to fix it. Cause the fire scene looked amazing it even was reflecting off her face. her face does look better in the final product ofc but still sad we didn’t get to see this high quality stuff cause people got mad about her face
The Jukebox audio in 1.00 is really hauntingly beautiful. Wish they left it like that tbh even if the new one is more unsettling. The old fire looked really rough, the warmth of the color I think is more striking visually but the actual flames look like ps3 era stuff. I also think the scene just looks more refined in 1.03 overall, I think it could benefit from higher contrast and maybe a bit more saturation but I also think the extreme saturation in 1.0 doesn’t feel like sh2 which is probably why they reduced it.
They also updated the full set of animations with chainsaw: - the way he stands with it - they way he runs/walks with it - They've removed the stomp with leg hit animation with chainsaw equpped with later patches - I think they also changed a bit animation for breaking windows with chainsaw but I'm not sure - And the slice hit with chainsaw became much more impactful - the idle animation/reference to lollipop chainsaw became a bit laggy at the ending of the animation by later patches - they listened to critique and added some camera shaking work during the combat with meele attacks to make it more impactful. (Compare the gameplay trailer that showed the Pyramid Head boss fight at the end of it) - They adjusted the zoom of the aiming of different weapons - The flashes from shooting the Pyramid Head to its head were much brighter (Also compared to the mentioned above gameplay trailer) - The way Pyramid Head reacted to getting shot from the pistol to the arm while he approaches you was also a bit updated. He's arms and the whole model don't swing to the random directions with each contact of the bullet. - The cutscenes had 50/50 chance to start working with some sort of micro stutters or as if you would play with much less Hz than your monitor/TV actually shows. Also the cutscene when you approach and the very first monster for the very first time (when James didn't realise that it wasn't human yet) didn't have the transition from the gameplay to cutscene but still has it from the cutscene to the gameplay. - Unfortunately, there was no opprtunity to switch off that stupid red screen when you have low HP
playing PS5 digital, never experienced the frosted glass issue. i actually remember standing there and staring at the first frosted glass door and remarking damn that looks amazing.
They really need to patch back in the flesh walls moving. Something felt off or missing in that part and now I know what it was. That would have just completed the atmosphere in that area. Really do needs this back in the game at all costs.
It's heartbreaking that Angela's last words are "for me it's always like this.." I think it's fascinating that there shared trauma allows them to bleed into one another's "silent hill" the games lore/world is so complex
I do find it odd how they have a build from April on the disc. I have a feeling the game was meant to shipper much sooner but the fan backlash totally changed up plans.
tbh the game got release date somewhere around when 1.01 is dated to, so I guess it was more like they had a functional product that konami approved for publishing. Some changes could've been due to the feedback yes, but i don't think that postponed a release date that didn't exist until april anyways.
Back in old days it used to be called ghosting. It can be caused by various factors, but commonly it's either FPS issues or rendering issue. We don't know the exact reason for ghosting in the current version of the game, but the fact that it was minimal or non-existant in pre-patch is damming.
@@LoreDanka87 It's probably a limitation with how Unreal Engine pulls off some of the visual effects. For example, the engine has issues with rendering things in water reflections which are in front of it/between the reflection and the camera. As good as Unreal Engine looks, it seems to be lazy with its rendering in order to achieve better performance. At least this is what I've witnessed.
I like more the flesh walls pulsing, the bright fire in the Angela staircase scene & the Original Dog Ending which complements the ending credit scenes from the original SH2 Game. The rest looks excellent for me.
1. Moving walls were miles better 2. Staircase scene got better color grading but worse lighting, that's why men bodies on the walls are almost invisible now

Staircase is horrible. The characters do not cast shadows on themselves anymore. Removed the reg volumetric fog. 21:03 does show Angelas nose or hair casting a shadow. THEY REMOVE LIGHTING. DOWNGRADE
One thing I remember is before entering the hospital with maria, the ambient was regular and changed suddenly when you entered the hospital with a warm sunset light, and now they changed it when you come outside the cinema, the ambient has the same moody light
Things I prefer in 1.0 : - The monster in the van. - James zoom out when he gets out of the elevator. - The music of the Jukebox after hospital. (Even if I love the breathing sound) - Flesh walls. WHY THEY DID NOT KEEP THAT !? This is the best feature in the game !

@kennybruhbruh It's related to the polaroid pictures that you collect throughout the game, I think you need to find these exact places throughout the game and interact with them in a certain way! The one that I managed to do was the picture that you found in the Blue Creek apartments, the picture with room 208, and says "forever together", what you need to do, head up to that room which will be locked and marked with a straight red line, try to open it couple of times by moving forward and backwards, and then you'll hear a loud sound of someone shaking the door handle from the other side, and if you check the map again, you'll notice that the door's marking changed from straight red line to zigzag! This mission is on another level, cause it'll require paying attention to the smallest detail! Good luck, and please share it with others!
What were they thinking for the staircase scene? First version looks SO much better. In the second version, literally no light is being reflected at all despite THE ENTIRE STAIRCASE OF FIRE.
Personal notes on the V1 vs .03 on Angela's Staircase. .03 makes more sense based on camera exposure. The highlights of the fire would be blown out to white. However, it could benefit from some of the warm glow and lighting in 1
Okay so stuff improved overall. I dont like how oversaturated and orange looking the angela stair scene is. But they could improve lightning/reflections to make it look more realistic. But maybe they changed it because the fire cant harm them? Because angela goes through the fire like nothing happens. What i cant understand is why the flesh walls dont move anymore but the sound is there. Maybe a bug in that version that prevents it from moving and they havent noticed it yet?

I guess they wanted it to be more subtle. Either way, I think people will still complain whether or not they kept it in the final product. There's no winning with SH fans.
They're saving it for the room😉
the movement looks looks unpolished and rough. would've been great if they'd included it with a bit more polish.
14:15 they should have kept the walls moving, its so cool and symbolic!
Thanks for the info, great video! This is something I do love in having physical discs: you can play games before they patch (and sometimes DOWNGRADE features/graphics/useful glitches). For example, being able to play the version 1.00 of Red Dead Redemption 2, or even unpatched version of RDR1 on 360/PS3 to enjoy the mananimals glitches, or the homing molotovs hahaha.
i need that flesh walls damnit
mods
1.0 version of angela staircase is much more dramatic and more visceral, wished they kept that look instead of the washed out look in the final.
visual clarity my friend, it looked way too saturated, nothing like a real fire. And you couldn't see the characters expressions clearly
@@aymanbhr4436 not everything needs to be seen but heard, its fine the way it was
@@aymanbhr4436 last I checked the light produced by fire wasn't bright yellow
Maybe it was an artistic choice. Only Angela is supposed to be able to see the fire, so the light bouncing off everything doesn't make sense from James' POV.
Finally someone comparing a 1.00 version of a game thanks.
Real shame taking out the pulsating walls. Turned into a normal hallway.
he didn't remove the wall it was added, he reversed the videos. It's then you look for a fight at launch with the boss you'll see.
3:52 I love it, in the 1.00 the chainsaw is on but makes no sound, and in the 1.03 the chainsaw is off but does make sound.
people were probably missing it during playtests or something
A chainsaw can be on and have the chain be completely still. The new version is accurate
I'm betting they made it make sound so more players would find it. Also the other comment is right, can totally be sitting there running without moving.
duuurrrrr Figure that all by yourself by watching the video? Is this really the modern audience? Kill me.
@@milesbbop9563 and 20 people liked it as if he said something profound
Thank you for a wonderful video!
I can't help but hear Twin Perfect's narration during many of these. I'm not even joking, in many aspects the differences between the April, 15th and 1.03 feel like those between the OG and the HD Collection.
I guess HDC is that cursed
I'm honestly surprised to see that they changed a lot in the update. I'm glad I have experienced the 1.03 update on my first playthrough.
Though, it is such a shame that they changed some of Angela's section like the Flesh walls and the fire lighting. Not sure what was the point of changing that.
Experiencing 1.03 in your first run ruins your experience since it's ay worse
It might be and it's a hunch....it was TOO good at being scary?
Since I've got disc edition, I wanna unpatch the game and get the OG dog ending
Lol remember saying pyramid head in the remakes looks like doing a Fortnite dance compare to the original where his just explicit on the movement. Be fun if you get options to play version of the game
I personally really glad they haven’t released it with the first version, and took some extra time. Really love the changes made to v1.03.
They should patch in the flesh walls, and the old fire seen but slightly less saturated
I prefer the door being locked since it builds tension for something you aren’t entirely sure of.
The subtle/complete angle changes in the cutscenes didn't seem necessary but in the new patch just look so good
Excellent video comparison. Kudos
So it was the old camera pov that was making Angela look so frumpy!
no they literally remodeled her face in those scenes. Less cheeks and less eye-brows
@@crust5909 sounds good to me!
The red shadows effect on her face was PHENOMENAL, she really did look like a lost soul engulfed in hellfire... ç_ç
PH's movements are cool either way, still scary and creepy WTF. I thought for a moment they were going to give us a frontal shot of the mannequins scene LOL
Although I'd argue that the staircase scene shows us what JAMES perceives is Angela's hell, I agree. They could have gone for a mix btw the blazing saturated red and the fact that it is not really there, perhaps by showing its effects on Angela's face but not James idk
Back pedaling on the flesh walls was a misstep, I'm afraid they made them censor it (I swear these days the difference btw shocking and offensive is LOST to the West wtf)
What a bunch of yapping.
@@robinhoney4874 yeah they toned it down in some parts idk why
I feel bad cause the fire stair scene looks sm better (yes her face needed a couple tweeks) but I think they got scared with the backlash and changed her scenes which resulted in a slightly lower quality outcome probably cause they had to rush to fix it. Cause the fire scene looked amazing it even was reflecting off her face. her face does look better in the final product ofc but still sad we didn’t get to see this high quality stuff cause people got mad about her face
I feel like the changes were neither better nor worse, just different.
Kind of cool that disc owners get two slightly alternate versions!
We now have the og and the enhanced versions in a matter of weeks. Damn, we fed.
Clearly missing effects. Hopefully someone can mod them back in or they'll be patched in. Thanks for showing this.
*I don't mind most of the changes, but why change the flesh walls?? T_T*
Because of wokies
Where.
@@superiorknight3820 Brother you're not important.
@@superiorknight3820 Oh no they got our walls! Everybody tear your house down right now!!!
THEY'RE IN THE WALLS
Absolute brainrot answer.
The game soft locking at the cube puzzle is very interesting..
They also updated the full set of animations with chainsaw:
- the way he stands with it
- they way he runs/walks with it
- They've removed the stomp with leg hit animation with chainsaw equpped with later patches
- I think they also changed a bit animation for breaking windows with chainsaw but I'm not sure
- And the slice hit with chainsaw became much more impactful
- the idle animation/reference to lollipop chainsaw became a bit laggy at the ending of the animation by later patches
- they listened to critique and added some camera shaking work during the combat with meele attacks to make it more impactful. (Compare the gameplay trailer that showed the Pyramid Head boss fight at the end of it)
- They adjusted the zoom of the aiming of different weapons
- The flashes from shooting the Pyramid Head to its head were much brighter (Also compared to the mentioned above gameplay trailer)
- The way Pyramid Head reacted to getting shot from the pistol to the arm while he approaches you was also a bit updated.
9:42 definitely an improvement, James should look as small as he feels after what just happened
I prefer the version 1.0 more dramatic
playing PS5 digital, never experienced the frosted glass issue. i actually remember standing there and staring at the first frosted glass door and remarking damn that looks amazing.
They really need to patch back in the flesh walls moving. Something felt off or missing in that part and now I know what it was. That would have just completed the atmosphere in that area. Really do needs this back in the game at all costs.
Hey, your channel is really cool man. Glad I found it.
Am I the only one who really likes the 1.03 fire?..
i got the other fire and i wish i got the 1.03 instead, 1.00 is too bright
The only things I wish they wouldn't have changed are the moving flesh walls and the orange lighting in the stairs scene.
he didn't remove the wall it was added, he reversed the videos. It's then you look for a fight at launch with the boss you'll see.
Same!
It's heartbreaking that Angela's last words are "for me it's always like this.." I think it's fascinating that there shared trauma allows them to bleed into one another's "silent hill" the games lore/world is so complex
17:57 the fire in the 1.00 looks way better I don't get why they change it into a less colorful fire
It's not real fire. That's the point :)
Agree
...we need a "Looooost" patch 01:35
I do find it odd how they have a build from April on the disc. I have a feeling the game was meant to shipper much sooner but the fan backlash totally changed up plans.
tbh the game got release date somewhere around when 1.01 is dated to, so I guess it was more like they had a functional product that konami approved for publishing. Some changes could've been due to the feedback yes, but i don't think that postponed a release date that didn't exist until april anyways.
5:52 , WTF happened to the window
yeah they're very annoying you can see some kind of these weird line around james's body in entirely game
The lighting in the 1.00 fire scene is better, maybe just tone down the saturation slightly.
This is the kind of thing I love on videos, not 30929423 "reviews" saying the same. Thanks.
Someone should mod those flesh walls back in somehow, good god
I like more the flesh walls pulsing, the bright fire in the Angela staircase scene & the Original Dog Ending which complements the ending credit scenes from the original SH2 Game.
The rest looks excellent for me.
Why did they even remove the moving flesh walls? It's was very creepy and scary.... Also i think 1.0 fire stair look better in orange
1. Moving walls were miles better
2. Staircase scene got better color grading but worse lighting, that's why men bodies on the walls are almost invisible now
I'm glad i got the physical game because my wifi was out before the game was set to be released the next day. Man the flesh wall was creepy as hell thats for sure 😅
Weirdly enough, I actually said to my roommate after getting the "Stillness" ending that I wish they had used the letter reading there instead of during the "In Water" ending. I can't believe it's actually oriented that way in the 1.00 version. I wish they hadn't changed it.
Wait, the frost windows glitch looks worse? Or you mess up the footage label?
No mess up, it got worse with updates
I loved the flesh walls moving and the way the fire reflected on them during Angela’s scene. But anyways, I still love that game so much!
Thank god they changed glimpse of the past sound. The 1.03 version gives me mystery vibes.
The new Fire looks like a big downgrade there is much less sparks flying around and fire looks damp ....
Staircase is horrible. The characters do not cast shadows on themselves anymore. Removed the reg volumetric fog. 21:03 does show Angelas nose or hair casting a shadow. THEY REMOVE LIGHTING. DOWNGRADE
Ha! the frosted windows were fine in version 1.00 ...and the breathing flesh walls need to make a comeback! SMH
Many things look better on 1.0 especially the fire scene.
Wow crazy how different they are!
I like the 1.00 dog ending better but unfortunately due to the toxic community bloober team decided to back off from it, such a shame
Angela's fire is so much better on the original version, wtf.
damn i wonder why they changed alot of this stuff?
One thing I remember is before entering the hospital with maria, the ambient was regular and changed suddenly when you entered the hospital with a warm sunset light, and now they changed it when you come outside the cinema, the ambient has the same moody light
That Angela scene looks great pre patch
NO! fat
Things I prefer in 1.0 :
- The monster in the van.
- James zoom out when he gets out of the elevator.
- The music of the Jukebox after hospital. (Even if I love the breathing sound)
- Flesh walls. WHY THEY DID NOT KEEP THAT !? This is the best feature in the game !
Just another reason why I prefer physical media over digital.
Except mods exists. So nice try. Don't fool yourself. Not only can we flx this but when can also add better QOL mods. As I say, Just another reason why I prefer digital over the locked down console versions of games.
@milesbbop9563 you play on PC lol. You couldn't get a physical copy regardless, so your point doesn't mean much.

2 things they did worse in newer version, everything else is good
1. Flesh walls got removed
2. Fire scene was degraded
Some changes to the final version is a downgrade lol. Like the moving flesh wall and angela stairscene. If the reason for that change is " it is way too disturbing" then the person whos incharge failed at doing their job.
the video is wrong, it's the opposite... hard misinformation this video has several people commenting on something that was added in 1.3, just look for the fight at launch and you will see that there is no pulsating wall.
I still see Jon Lovitz in each picture of the thumbnail
Game studios need to make games right from the start. Fuck all these patches
Flesh wall, Fire scene and some other stuff... can't understand there choices here. WTF ?! Really strange.
Really interesting comparaison tho.
None of these changes are better nor worse. Just different. I also much prefer the look of the fire in the Angela stairway scene. You can focus on the characters more and it's better to look at. The 1.0 version was a bit too much, overly saturated.
“the 1.0 version wasn’t a bit too much nor overly saturated, just different”
It must sucks if you seen actual fire that actually will turn entire room orange.
1.0 version is realistic, when it comes to fire lighting. Have never seen fire in rral life and how it shines on everything around it?
@@reymartchristiancruz526 Yeah but the fire isn't really there. That's the point.
@@reymartchristiancruz526 the fire is not actually meant to be there. Its psychological so it shouldn't be casting realistic shadows etc
I'm an OG Silent Hill gamer, and I played all releases, in the remake, I have found a secret in the game that no one has found till now, and no one talked about it, I think it leads to a secret ending or something else, it consist of multiple parts, I managed to interact with one, but still need the rest, I need your help genius gamers 🕹
Can you explain further?
I fw the new camera angles tho
What were they thinking for the staircase scene? First version looks SO much better. In the second version, literally no light is being reflected at all despite THE ENTIRE STAIRCASE OF FIRE.
14:32 i wish they kept this. Its creepy

@@LucasGammer sorry i didnt understand. Do you want to say that the breathing walls were added or removed?
Personal notes on the V1 vs .03 on Angela's Staircase. .03 makes more sense based on camera exposure. The highlights of the fire would be blown out to white. However, it could benefit from some of the warm glow and lighting in 1
Why did change walls not movint with moving looking better
Glimpses of the past sound v2 definitely scratches an itch in my brain
🤣 the internet memed them so hard they actually changed the camera angle to hide the chubby cheeks omg thats hilarious 2:25
The Angela fire scene looks way better before. Hrmm.
The final scene with Angela is a work of art.
Im confused on how this was updated today but everything that i just saw new i already seen beside the doge ending i never got that
