He has to live through Camelot's fall (Once it spreads through the land that Arthur is dead, people are likely going to try and take over Camelot, and they are likely going to fight for it). We all know that Kilgharrah is going to die. He is going to get close to other people that will all die eventually, and at one point deciding he will not get close to anyone else. Century after century. He lives as Camelot fades all together, becoming a legend. Imagine how broken he would feel? Imagine all the times he'd get angry at himself for forgetting certain details, like Gaius's voice, Gwen's laughter, or Arthur's eyes? Imagine him being tempted to draw up Excalibur to stab himself with it, but remembering that Arthur could be back any time now? Or worse, he actually tries, but his magic heals him and he breaks down in tears because of it? "ARTHUR! COME back, please!!" he calls through his tears as he curls up in the shallow water. "Please....." Imagine Camelot fading in his mind (for the most part. It's still there, just not /there/, if you get what I'm saying) but going to the lake everyday out of habit and he no longer knows why, or why it makes him sad. The Arthurian legend really is just a legend at this point. He forgets that he has magic, so he walks around like a homeless old man. Sometimes he'll see a pretty, young lady in the water that laps around his feet. She calls herself "Freya" and she has old, sad eyes, similar to Merlin's. She talks to him, tells him stories of the once great kingdom called "Camelot" and how Arthur Pendragon will rise again. "You'll be the first to see," she says with a sad smile. "Nonsense," he responds. "It is only a legend." People nearby look at him strangely; he was talking to a lake. Then one morning, there's a buzzing in his head. "Murrlin!" Calls a familiar voice. It's filled with excitement. He gets flashbacks, that make his head hurt. "Murlin!" A prince with hair gold as the sun, kissing a very beautiful dark lady. "Merlin!!" An angry prince, chucking a goblet at his head. "Merlin!" A happy prince, laughing with a wide smile. "Merlin!!!" The prince being coronated as king. "Merlin!" The shouting becomes clear and louder! A king, marrying the dark lady. "Merlin, where are you?!" The golden king, laying his head on Merlin's shoulder as he said his last words. "Merlin!" Pushing the boat away and setting it aflame using magic. "Merlin!" Arthur. He runs as fast as he can from where he stayed the night. A familiar feeling running through him. Magic. The people stare as the old man slowly transforms into a young man as he runs with a bright smile. "Arthur!" He shouts when the lake is in view. He wades out into the water. "Arthur!!!" He stops. "Arthur." "Merlin, I'm right here." Arthur is glad to see his manservant again. "You're back!" Merlin says, his chin laying on Arthur's shoulder. Now, a bright smile plagues his face. "You left me alone, and now you're back!" "Yes, I'm back." They pull away from each other, to see eachother. "Arthur." The name was new to his lips, but so familiar. He loved saying it. "Arthur!" Hannah Marley I totally agree , it’s so emotional. The show was it’s best when all the storylines were happy, then Morgana changed it all . At least we got to have happiness for awhile . The video is amazing I’ve watched it so many times.
I really wish we could have had 6 seasons, with Arthur having a full season to come to terms with Merlin's magic, asking him dumb questions about how it works, the two of them working together, accepting magic back into the world. Then we could still have the same ending and everything...it just wouldn't feel quite so tragic. T_T
Agreed!! I've often thought the same thing. They waited until the last few minutes of the very last season for Merlin to tell Arthur he had magic. I felt so cheated, and I knew I wasn't the only one!

Because when everyone has forgotten about Merlin or the beautiful actors and crew who made this show come to life we, us the fans will always remember. Colin Morgan's youth and his many facial expressions were captured so well in Merlin that his acting jobs in his 30's other than Merlin have never reached their true potential. Merlin was his shining moment and was his greatest gift to all of us watching at that time in our lives.
Ok, so everyone is sad because of Arthur’s death, and I am too, but honestly Gwaine’s death hurt me so much more because I loved him so much and... I think the worst of all is that his last words were “I failed” and I just can’t get over his death. (Sorry for the bad English but it is not my language)

It's been 6 years since it ended, coming up on the 10 year anniversary of its beginning. I rewatched all of merlin after 6 years. I loved every second as much as the first time. I will never get over this tv show and it will always be my favourite, will always have a special place in my heart. I can't say goodbye, because I will always come back but thank you, merlin. For the ride.

I don't think Merlin loved Arthur the way you're imagining it...Merlin fell in love (and still is in love) with the lady of the lake whilst Arthur loved Gwen (Past tense since they're both dead)

Great TRIBUTE I miss seeing this show on tv definitely one of my top 5 favorite shows . However I'm very lucky that I have the complete series DVD set so that I can watch it anytime I get a chance. Altough I’m crying, it’s so amazing to see that our fandom is immortal. I can see crack and Merthur videos uploaded this year (and it’s 2020!).
Its nearly been seven years. Seven. And I STILL can't bring myself to watch the last few episodes. I know what happens, and I can't handle it. I am an adult now, but I cannot let go. This tribute breaks me.

Still not over this show.i will always cry while watching this.And you know,the usual,dying inside a bit more.
When you realise that at one point in the show each if the four characters had a crush on one another. (Remember when Merlin and Gwen had a thing, Arthur and Morgana, then they switched all while Merlin was flirting with Arthur and Gwen with Morgana)
Whenever I search Merlin, it always hurts to see Merlin season 6 as a recommendation.

This show has pulled me through hard times, I got super low, and almost killed myself at one point, but then I thought about how the Merlin characters would always be there no matter what for their friends, so I have to do the same

It doesn’t matter how many videos I watch, it doesn’t matter how much time I spend away from RUclips... I always come back to this one. Great TRIBUTE I miss seeing this show on tv definitely one of my top 5 favorite shows . However I'm very lucky that I have the complete series DVD set so that I can watch it anytime I get a chance. Merlin was great but ARTHUR was my FAVORITE CHARACTER I always had the biggest crush on him. i hated it when Arthur died I cried. anyway thanks for all the MEMORIES and a BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE

When I was a kid, I would stay up late and secretly watch some adult shows, one of them was Merlin. I didn't completely understand the plot, but I still loved it nonetheless.
Years passed by and totally I forgot about it. But a year ago I re-found it and fell in love with it all over again. ❤️❤️❤️
