Nice job on the restoration! Sure looked like a lost cause. I picked up the same model in near pristine condition, except someone really futzed with the wiring between the starter and battery. This is the first video I have seen that I think I can make heads or tails of the wiring (before lugging it to a local repair shop and bending over...) Thanks!
I have a Subaru commercial engine on my RIGID power washer. It has been the easiest starting engine I have owned and has always started on the first pull and runs strong. This is my first Subaru small engine. Normally I would seek out something with a Honda engine but the RIGID power washer had the horizontal CAT pump I really wanted. So far I have been impressed with the Subaru and it has run for many, many, hours. It really blows my mind that some people don't take better care of their equipment.
I sure hope you made money on this repair. I admire your attention to detail. I love doing what you do, namely, resurrecting neglected machinery and bringing them back to life. Keep up the great work. I love watching your videos.
I was trying to figure out how the starting magnetic field was made as exciter to get the DC to the rotor...watching the two part rotor and stator repair gave me the answer with the magnets in the rotor....one rotor had forward mounts positioning, the other had magnets mounted position close to bell housing...Well done in explaining how they work.
I have had that machine for over 14 years. Living in SW MS she gets a good bit of use. 460 hrs now. Keep the oil clean and replace the plug every 150 hrs and she will purr forever. I have nothing but praise for the entire setup. The extension (did you get one) allows remote operation well away from the exhaust. I placed a manual transfer switch next to our main load center so all I have to do is plug in the 240v cable and select the circuits I want to run. We are all electric, including an ESP (well pump). It will happily run our 5 ton AC, fridge, lights, internet, etc. I need to be selective when running the well and/or the hot water, but that’s simple stuff when the alternative is 95 degree/80% humidity. The entire setup cost less than $1,300 including transfer switch (actually just a 100 amp/16 slot load center with a 3 position switch for each circuit (line/Gen/off). The transfer switch makes it impossible to backfeed and simple to select/deselect individual circuits. I made a diagram for my wife and children to use if I’m out of town. It has been such a blessing to us and the neighbors during hurricane season and the all too often “tree down/power off” situations. I’m rambling for two reasons: 1). This rigid is as good as it gets in the 8K/10K gen martlet. Find one used, change the oil, throw a new carb/air and fuel filter ($45), a new battery ($75), fill it up and enjoy. 2) installing a transfer switch is worth the money. They are not generator specific meaning you can plug any 240V gen into it and energize your home. Even if your AC is too big for the gen, this switch makes it a simple matter to isolate the fridge, internet and a room or two outfitted with window AC. 3) Drop $25 on a good CO detector. Lifesaver. Thanks for the vid. You stole that girl. She will easily give you another 300-600 hrs or more. Just change the oil every year and run ethanol free gas. You can get a new carb, filters, gaskets etc for under $50 on Amazon. Everything needed to fix an engine gummed up by e-fuel. Multi fuel (gasoline/NG) are available for about $75. Thanks for the vid and great job bro!
Wow - what a great channel - I found you from a post you left on a Mustie1 video. I have a couple of John Deere generators with Subaru engines that have held up well with just minor maintenance over the last 15-20 years, but I find your videos fascinating. I spray the Aluminum engine blocks and generator head externally with mineral spirits then blow dry with compressed air. Makes them look a lot better. Does wonders for the white corrosion deposits.

I just got one from a repair dealer, left by a customer. New carb and battery and gas, changed oil good to go but.... Subaru/Robyn stopped selling and supporting these engines back in 2017 and getting parts is a challenge.
I find your videos extremely helpful. I'm impressed by how many of these basket cases you are able to resurrect. I own a very reliable 6500w generac megaforce that's 22 years old now. I take good care of it and purchased several spare parts while I'm still able to. I don't believe it is a briggs and stratton engine though and wonder what your thoughts are on the generac engines before the briggs years.
I just fixed one of these. Exact same machine made in 2013. Insects nested inside the area of the electrical outlets and the board that controls the auto idle. Started it and arcs shooting out from that idle board. AC output was dead shorted at the board from the bug debris and moisture. Board No longer available. I cut the blown board out and rewired the output directly to the outlets. Replace both GFCI outlets as they were bad too. Change the oil and load bank test it.....Ran good full output available......Not a bad machine
My rd8000 has been in the basement for a few years. Started it today but it ran rough. Can’t open the choke fully. Put pure gas in. Hope I can get it going strong.
Don’t mess with the carb. Buy a new one on line for $50. The kit even has a new air filter $10, gaskets ($6), fuel filter ($8), fuel line and clamps ($10), spark plug ($5) and some other stuff. It's almost cheaper to replace the carb with this kit than it is to buy standard maintenance parts.
Love you work, great information in all your videos. thanks for sharing. If it might help with a overall restoration you can get a spray solution that will dissolve oxidized aluminum to almost new look .... can be found on boating suppliers sites. There are few reviews on here.
Mr Condon Good eavning! I know this video is from 3 yrs ago but any chance u remember the fuse size in that green wire going to starter was? I aquiered one of these and that fuse is missing.thanks for ur time!
Love your repair videos! I'm looking at buying the 6800 watt version of this gen with the Yamaha engine. It appears to be in very good condition. Any thoughts, opinions, experience with these? Thanks!
James, I have this same generator. I am having a hard time finding a rebuild kit for it. I need the needle and seat all the gaskets. The carburetor is clean and runs the engine well. I just have a fuel overflow problem. Any help you could give would be appreciated.
I have a large older generator that needs a good paint job, and cleanup (paint peeling and surface rust. It runs nice with no issues (had it up and running two days ago), but winter is coming on fast, and I have to do everything outdoors (no shed, or gaage. Leaves are falling, needing raking and cleanup, so I'll cover over the unit over to protect it as much as possible for the winter months, and next spring begin giving it a fresh-up cosmetic job, and clean-up. I have block and tackle to remove the whole unit, but I might try it the same way you did with yours (may save me some time in completing it. It doesn't have to be perfect. Anyways it runs like a gem, and I fully serviced it a couple of weeks ago, so it's ready for use if needed. I picked up another a few weeks ago, and had it running for a spell, but I think it needs a good valve job (compression is a bit too low, as it's hard to fire up. A good valve lapping I think is in order, as well as clearance spacing adjustment. I can do that in my basement during the winter months, as long as I leave all fuel outdoors. Good video.
I noticed towards the end of the video, you had the fuel gauge in the horizontal position, and then it was in the vertical position. Which position is which? One would think that for a "valve" to be open, it should be in the horizontal position?? Please advise, and nice video.
Hi James - I have the same generator- resistance on the stator coil reads .3 but it’s much higher on the rotor coil - 20 or so measured either through the brush contacts or direct to the coil wires. So I assume that means I need a replacement rotor? Sorta new at this but I’ve been watching your videos. Thanks
Hey, I have the same Ridgid gen. It doesn’t charge the battery. I’m getting 70 vdc at the battery! Any idea the issue. I replaced the diode rectifier already.
HI James, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about genset. I need your help / hint of what is the problem of the porter cable 5500w unit. Stator windings has 5 & 6 ohms and not grounded. Capacitor leads has 6 volts in it and the 40uf capacitor is okay.... but still no output ..I do appreciate it a lot of you give me your advise. thank you once again.
Jim, have you ever used "RED COAT" Tank sealer, on the bottom half of your rusty tanks, after your evaporust trearments ? I understand it's quite good.....
I have heard the same. Never tried it on a generator tank. My understanding is that you pour it in, coat everything and then let the extra drip out the fill neck. With a generator tank, not sure that would work since you cannot pour everything out due to the tank design,
James always enjoy watching your videos. Learned a lot. I have this same model RD8000 which has been very reliable until last week when it started up but didn’t generate any power. Tried troubleshooting as per your guidelines but still no voltage output on L1 or L2. Thinking that the stator is bad because the exciter voltage seems low as does the power out the the brushes. Since the unit has been obsolete for some time I’m having trouble sourcing replacement parts. From what I can tell these parts are compatible with Homelite too. Any idea where I can find the 31027012 or 3107022 power head?
I have a question. But first, I want to thank you for sharing your videos with us. You've helped so many with answering most of our issues. I picked up the same Rigid RD8000 8000/10000 watt machine. I bought it cheap because the person before me had stored it for two years with gasoline and it was surging. I brought it home and changed everything out. New carb, oil, sparkplug, gaskets, gas, filter, but it is surging. I see videos on people fixing the surging by adjusting the idle screw on the carb or cleaning the jets, however, the carb doesn't have any adjustment screws and is brand new, and why should I disassemble it and shoot cleaner into it? I'm scratching my head...I can't find a single video that covers this for the Robin Subaru EX40 surging issue. Any insight would be helpful, since you've picked up so many of these Ridgid generators. Thank you.
Surging means it's trying to run faster than it can actually run with the amount of fuel it's getting, so likely some sort of blockage in the fuel tank outlet, or there's a crack somewhere from which it's drawing false air. Could also be a stretched governor spring causing a resonance, but that's fairly rare.
Very nice! A little paint goes a long way. I noticed that carb said "Nikki" on it when you were taking it apart the first time. I guess they are reasonably priced to replace?
I have one exactly like this one. We bought it as a just in case. It sat in the shed for about 2 years but we had ran the carburetor dry. After Hurricane Michael, we pulled it out and the battery was dead. But we filled it with gas, choked it and it started on the 1st pulled just like this one. I thought for sure I was going to be pulling for hours.
James Condon yes it is. We still have it in the shed just in case there is another Hurricane or any kind of power outage. We live next door to my parents and this generator ran a Well, two Freezers, two Refrigerators and two TV’s for three days and nights after Hurricane Michael. It’s a work horse and used a butt load of gas, but we had power where it was most important. I love the Zero gravity frame and hard rubber tires. You don’t have to worry about the tires going flat.
Old trick that has worked for me many times....take the bowl off the carb, get a old coffee can and fill it with hot water and dawn dish soap, soak it in the hot soapy water, rinse it off and do it a couple more times, it has worked so well for me, doesn't seem like it would but it has for me
It would not have been a big job to take that engine and generator head off, but from experience I recommend you put something overhead to hang a hoist from and put one of those small to medium size Harbor Freight electric hoists on it and you would be amazed how much you will use it, I put a 8 inch piece of I beam across the ceiling of my shop and put a trolly on it and put a electric hoist on it (but you don't need electric just a chain fall) and you would not believe the little things you will use it for, I set things up on my work bench all the time with it, I love it, good luck.
Do you have a link to where I can get the 120V outlet rubber covers? They have been discontinued and I have not been able to locate anywhere. I have the 6800W version Rigid Gen. which I speculate is the same as this 8k.
For anyone that has one, Amazon has a carb kit for $39. It has carb, gaskets, air and fuel filter, spark plug, fuel line, clamps, kill witch and other goodies. For $39 you get everything for a tune up and a total fix for E-Fuel related issues. This gen will run forever and the Subaru/Robinson parts and tech data are all over the internet even if the local shops don’t carry parts. I just buy the carb kit every couple of years and change the oil. Over 400 hrs in 14 years and she still purrs with no smoke or bumps…
That looks like the carburetor from my generator that i bought 6 years ago. Found a used carb that just needed to be rebuilt and put it on just to see how it would run
I have this generator, but mine is the 6800 running Watts. It has the GCF I protected Outlets, and they are showing yellow Amber lights. Is this normal? I am not getting any power out of the outlets. This thing sat for years and I got it running.
Hi, I've been enjoying your video's, keep them coming!. I Have this exact same generator that I picked up used. it's in very good shape, though I needed to make a repair to the rotor. I'd like to ask you where you got parts and service info for this unit. Thank you.
For the Subaru engine was able to find the service manual by googling it. Also had called Ryobi once asking for a Ryobi inverter service manual. Instead they sent me one that covered several of these ridgid models.
@@jcondon1 Hello again, thanks for your reply. Ok I was able to google and get a manual for the unit, may I ask if you have a particular parts supplier that you use? As I'm sure you know Rigid has discontinued most parts for these, and there are hundreds of supply houses, who's prices vary wildly, and stock different lines. Who's your favorite? Also as a side note, I read in a forum that these units were made for Rigid by Homelite. Any truth to that? Thank you. Vincent.
Never seen a carburetor that dirty before ....good video , people so stupid to sit equipment outdoors . 😢 I've soaked carburetor 's in a coffee can of gas submerge for like three weeks at a time and believe it or not it cleaned up and ran . Good video - thanks
I have this same model rd800, followed you and cleaned the carb. Now turns over but leaking gas. Can you tell me where to get that carb gasket kit or the whole carb preferably. I can't locate it anywhere. Thanks
Sounds like a needle issue or maybe a dirty seat. It the seat, try cleaning it with a q-tip in a drill. With the carb off and bowl removed hold it upside down and try blowing are through the fuel inlet. If you hear any air then it will leak has. It is a Mikuni carb on that engine. I will send you a link to the parts.
I will say a few things that could be helpful ... If you're going to be spending allot of time in the shop, you might want to pick up a welder and learn to use it. They can become indispensable in times of need. To top things off, sometimes you're going to have to deal with things which aren't convenient in the form weight, being heavy in nature and most of us are not relatives of Clark Kent, so to speak. There are a number of tools that can aid in lifting heavy things, I can tell you from experience, you don't want to break your back like I did years ago when a heavy 40 foot sail boat fell on top of me. Don't try to be a hero, get something to help you move those heavy things around, and ask someone to help you if necessary . Safety is very important, nothing is worth more than your life, remember that ! Good luck and thank you for your work.
Honda is number one for sure. I do not get many of them because they are reliable, but also cost more. Otherwise would stick to a name brand engine like Honda, Subaru, Briggs and Stratton, Yamaha. Those all have engine model numbers and parts numbers. The Chinese engines are good, but you will see quality control issues, no engine name or model info and no parts. The only exception might be Ryobi and Generac. These use Chinese engines, but they also supply replacement parts for those engines. With all that said the engines are usually not what kills a generator it is the powerhead or a rusted out tank. Most power heads seem to be made in China and similar quality. Once you get around 10000 watts or higher then you start to see better quality. I personally like the Briggs and Stratton Storm Responder. They can be found in my area in perfect condition for as little as $250. The tank is plastic so no rust issues, the engine is strong and the NON-AVR version seems to have a better built stator then most. The only downside is no AVR, no carburetor bowl drain and no oil sensor so you have to check the oil at least daily. Those usually die due to a lack of oil. Otherwise I like the Husky HU5000. There is also a Homelite version. It has an AVR, plastic tank, low oil sensor and a Subaru engine. The biggest issue I see with those is the tank can leak at the fuel outlet due to a bad rubber bushing. Also the carburetor is a Mukuni, but it does tend to run a little lean at no load in might hunt some.
The good news is that you have 220. That means both your main output legs from you stator are working. Must be an issue with the 120 outlets or the wiring or circuit breakers leading to the 120v outlets.
hi do you watch tyrell fixes all and Mustie1 and is your fuel where you are the ETHENOL STUFF if not you can add new fuel but get the water out of it as long as it is not ETHENOL stuff give a good shake if you want to do that it makes the old fuel good for cleaning up parts
I have a RIGID 5700 Watts won't start I have replaced spark plug, fuel , oil, gas filter and ignition coil all these replaced still won't start what else is left initially I wasn't getting spark from sparkplug after replaced I got spark but after still no spark . What else am y missing
I am working on a Ridgid right now, 5700 watt Yamaha engine. Similar problem. You need spark, compression, fuel and timing. If you have spark then try spraying a little starting fluid in the intake. If it starts then you have a fuel issue. Otherwise you have a compression or timing issue. I have not completed the Yamaha 5700 watt video yet, waiting on parts, but will share a link with you to view the work in progress. The link will only work for a few days. In my case the engine was seized, throttle seized, leaking exhaust, no exhaust clearance and finally discovered the flywheel key was broken and the timing off. To check timing, remove the spark plug and air shroud so you can see the flywheel. Find top dead center by putting a screw driver in the spark plug whole and rotate the engine slowly until the piston is all the way up, see where the magnet is in relation to the coil. Should just be passing the coil. If not then a key issue.
Sorry just reread your post. Are you getting spark after the new plug and coil? If not they try disconnecting the kill wire from the coil and see if spark comes back. Also check the coil gap (do not think gap is adjustable is a Yamaha) and ensure coil is not on backwards.
People and manufacturers these days (I’m 65) think everything is throw away. Take care of something like this and it will truly last a lifetime. Oil/filters/run it and keep it dry… The previous owner falls into the throw away and buy another category. So glad this person revived the old girl. She has many dances left in her.
I've never understood why some people take a fairly expensive piece of equipment and abuse it until it's worthless or takes a lot of effort to repair. Just doesn't make sense to me.
Yeah... Its just better to buy a top quality machine like a Honda, and, keep up with the maintenance, and not abuse it,instead of having to break down the machine to overhaul the parts.. There are also parts that may or may not be available..It may also be cheaper in the long run just to buy a brand new generator, instead of going through all of the trouble to break down an old generator to repair it unless you just like to do if as a hobby..There is a limit to how far a person should go when it comes to costs to repair and replacement.. Generators have a Engine life span in terms of,Hours of useage that is labeled on the frame..when you hit that number.. it's time to replace the engine, and all of the minor mechanical repairs are useless...most Cheap generators last, less than 500 hours... (Including Generac) Honda's last at least 3-times that amount..if you take care of it..
I have bought about 13 generators in the past... The Honda's worked the best... If you have to buy an engine that has to be ran on a continuous basis, get a Propane dual fuel generator.. propane runs cleaner, cooler, and, helps the engine last much longer... The gas is also cheaper than Gasoline..Champion also makes a few Quiet Propane generators also...You can also buy several different propane tank sizes for long term use.. I have 2,30 gallon,tanks..You don't want to use a Gas generator past 8-10 hours continuously, without letting the unit test, and cool down for a few hours .. That's not the same problem with propane systems..
Thank you for posting! Two years later and it gave me the guidance I needed to get mine going. Much appreciated!!
Great to hear!
Have the same exact generator with less than 24hrs of total use. Incredible job!!
Thanks

Worst corrosion I’ve seen in a carb!! Good job on getting it going again!!👍👍
I've NEVER seen that before, but I don't service small engines much
That carb must have set some kind of record. Nice job!

hi james i have seen lots of bad carbs in my time ,but this one would be in the top ten, saying that this gene has the makings of a good one
Still cannot believe the carb ran that well after cleaning.
Nice find and fix James 😊
I started out looking for videos on Coleman generators but darn if I don't watch all of them!
Me too and I learn a lot from everyone.

Worse Carb I have ever seen. Looked like a hand full of sand in there. "Holy Cow", I liked that--LOL
Looks to me like that has been dropped in saltwater and left for a while. Then had the outside rinsed but no tear down.
James, I have this same generator. I am having a hard time finding a rebuild kit for it. I need the needle and seat all the gaskets. The carburetor is clean and runs the engine well. I just have a fuel overflow problem. Any help you could give would be appreciated.
9:05. "this looks quite like a NIkki carb" ahhh yeah the large scripted letters spelling out "Nikki" at 8:30 were a dead give away.
Haha. But the counterfeiters are happy to copy the company name. Not necessarily a real Nikki.
Great video please find a Scissors Jack from an old guy my knees n back hurt just watching thanks for the entertainment
I babe a little 5 x 12 trailer. I use it for an elevated workbench when working on my mower/gen and other big stuff. A real back saving trick.

Great job!....what do you do with all your bad gas removed from machines?...enjoy your videos.
Thanks
Most good rotors on Honda clones in the 5000-8090 watt range are between 40-70 ohms. Some go as low as 4 ohms
Anything over 0.5 ohms on the stator is most likely a bad stator.
@@jcondon1 Okay. thank you so much.
Good fix
I'm only familiar with Honda small engines. What's your opinion of kubota/subaru/yamaha small engines?
Jim, have you ever used "RED COAT"
Tank sealer, on the bottom half of your rusty tanks, after your evaporust trearments ?
Did you buy this unit new
I have a question.
Hey James,,I have a diesel Generator that is putting out power,,but not charging the battery! Any ideas what to check?
Bcroft 68 I really like the Subaru engines. Run well and easy to work on.
It’s Hurricane season again here in the south east and I’ve got to get my old Ridgid generator running again. How much oil does this thing take?
I can tell those boys were disappointed it didn't burst into flames
A nice sand blaster would come in handy.
Yes. Just found out my neighbor has one. Might have to pay him a visit next time.
I actually have a hoist above. Used it to lift my hardtop off my Jeep. Sold the Jeep years ago. Hoist still works.
Maybe try guitar/bass guitar strings to make the curves on the carbs, just a thought....nice videos
Thank you!
Do you have a link to where I can get the 120V outlet rubber covers? They have been discontinued and I have not been able to locate anywhere. I have the 6800W version Rigid Gen. which I speculate is the same as this 8k.
They have been recently discontinued. I can no longer find them.
yes that was amazing resurrection lazurus
Very helpful
For anyone that has one, Amazon has a carb kit for $39. It has carb, gaskets, air and fuel filter, spark plug, fuel line, clamps, kill witch and other goodies.
For $39 you get everything for a tune up and a total fix for E-Fuel related issues.
This gen will run forever and the Subaru/Robinson parts and tech data are all over the internet even if the local shops don’t carry parts. I just buy the carb kit every couple of years and change the oil. Over 400 hrs in 14 years and she still purrs with no smoke or bumps…
Could you send me the link for the rebuild kit on amazon?
That looks like the carburetor from my generator that i bought 6 years ago. Found a used carb that just needed to be rebuilt and put it on just to see how it would run
A glass bead blaster would make that carburetor fuel bowl look new.
Trying to work on one. This "idle down" thing is messed up. It idles up and down and the plunger goes in and out. Any idea what that could be?
I have this generator, but mine is the 6800 running Watts. It has the GCF I protected Outlets, and they are showing yellow Amber lights. Is this normal? I am not getting any power out of the outlets. This thing sat for years and I got it running.
If I remember correct, they should be green. When the GFCI fails they will trip and not reset and the light will be orange.
Where did you find the carburetor gaskets? Excellent job!!
Any word on the gaskets?
Do you know what torture to use for carb mounting stud nuts?
have you ever experimented with an AVR on a non AVR generator?
Hi James, could you tell me where I can get this carburetor model I found one on Amazon but it is very expensive $ 70
The OEM carburetor usually sells for $100. Would recommend going with that. Have had bad luck with the clone carbs.
Thanks James your videos have helped me a lot
i couldnt tell. i just picked one of these up... does yours auto regulate the engine RPM if there is no load?
Yes
Get an old speedometer cable use it for the tuel inlet corner works great by fingers. Good luck😅
hi james ask where i can find that nikki carb. I need one
Thanks 👍
have that same exact machine. never let me down here in north west jersey. curious what the name of the paint color was to touch up frame.
I think I used Rustoleum rustic orange
People don't know how to take care of anything they really don't I'm shocked that you can bring this stuff back to life

Excellent.
How much this kind of used generator?
In good condition $500
James what color paint did you use on the Rigid? Is it the same as the Generac color? Thank You!
Just about the same. I use Rustoleum rustic orange on Ridgid and Generac.
What spark plug should I use to replace the original that is damaged? What name does it have? Where can I buy it from?
Not sure on that one. If you Google the model number and look for a manual, it should have that information.
OK I will do that. Thank you for your answer and for the video.@@jcondon1
Where do you get your parts from?
Which paint have you found is the best for Rigid? I recall in another video you showed the can but I couldn't see the can very well in this one.
The color that matches bet is Rustoleum Rustic Orange
I'ma bit confused...how could there be that much water in the tank when you just cleaned the whole thing out? Bad gas reintroduced?
Jay Young I had to wash the tank out with water. Did not give it enough time to dry. Wanted to get gas in ASAP to avoid flash rusting.
@@jcondon1 all good my friend, love your content!
Can you send me the engine number? It is on the right side of the recoil. Should start with EX40.
I wonder which of the makes are you considering to be the best to buy in terms of durability and reliability?
You had the gasket correctly oriented and right side up at the 28: 55 mark, and then you turned it over upside down afterwards I think.
Neglected was a kind comment for sure. LOL
Here is a very important video that everyone really needs to watch ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html everyone should watch this
Always great videos. What replacement fuel lines do you use?
For most stuff I use automotive 1/4” ID 1/2” OD fuel line. Sometime I use Briggs and Stratton line with a slightly small OD in tight spots.
What could cause a generator to have 220 power but not 110? Ok a Ridgid 6800. Thanks. Love your videos.
The good news is that you have 220. That means both your main output legs from you stator are working. Must be an issue with the 120 outlets or the wiring or circuit breakers leading to the 120v outlets.
@@jcondon1 That's what I was hoping. Replacing them with any GFCI outlet from Home Depot would suffice if I need to replace them?
Use a small Dremel with a brass wire brush to clean it.
Have you ever tried CLR in the ultrasonic tor these bad carbs? I've had good success.
I have not tried CLR. Will try it out.
ChemDip is also supposed to be quite good.
hey James, found a Marketplace generator you may be interested in - how may I contact you?? Dave
Would a dremel do some justice in that carburateur bowl?
Would be better to sand blast it.
hi do you watch tyrell fixes all and Mustie1 and is your fuel where you are the ETHENOL STUFF if not you can add new fuel but get the water out of it as long as it is not ETHENOL stuff give a good shake if you want to do that it makes the old fuel good for cleaning up parts
I watch both. And unfortunately, the fuel is 10% ethanol.
See my work in progress here. I think this will help. Let me know if you link works ruclips.net/video/9a6WsSaHBWI/видео.html
Sorry just reread your post. Are you getting spark after the new plug and coil? If not they try disconnecting the kill wire from the coil and see if spark comes back. Also check the coil gap (do not think gap is adjustable is a Yamaha) and ensure coil is not on backwards.
My ridgid generator gfi keeps tripping
Any suggestions
It is most likely faulty. GFI circuit breakers fail open and cannot be reset. Replacing it should solve the issue.
Thanks, James. I appreciate it.
i notice there was no spring in that carb why?
Not all Nikki carbs have springs.
Where do you find these generators?
The screenshot at the beginning showed craigslist. I see stuff like it on Amazon Marketplace, too.
Where do you live ? Hope in Maryland ? Need someone to fix my generator?
About 4 hours north. Would be happy to fix your generator (or at least try).
Where do you live in Maryland because I live in Baltimore

Why do people buy expensive equipment and not look after it.
Andre Campbell I never understood that myself. I am working on another ridged now that is 3 years newer, but if worse shape if you can imagine.
I always try to take care of my equipment the best i can. If i don't have the time to do regular maintenance i'll take it a shop to have it done
People and manufacturers these days (I’m 65) think everything is throw away. Take care of something like this and it will truly last a lifetime. Oil/filters/run it and keep it dry…
The previous owner falls into the throw away and buy another category.
So glad this person revived the old girl. She has many dances left in her.
JIM MAYBE YOU COULD USE SAFETY WIRE TO GET AROUND CORNERS
