  • From early in 2003 Peter Doherty came to my Salon in Whitechapel after leaving the Libertines he was disillusioned with the "conveyer-belt" approach of the music industry. He expressed his intention to be a new kind of artist and I recognised that he was a unique talent with an aptitude for collaboration in which boundaries dissolved ... between individuals, genres, the artist and audience. From the start I resolved to aid him in his endeavour and assist with the production of new material. From my background in multi-media, fine art and poetry I encouraged his song-writing and recording. I believed that video and film would be essential for his future and when he asked me to arrange a video shoot in Paris for the song "Lovers" enabled his collaboration with Douglas Hart (formerly with the Jesus and Mary Chain) who also directed Kilimanjaro, Delivery and Youtalk. I set up the 8 camera edit of the live Manchester Ritzy gig with David Kaye that was released as "Up the Shambles" I connected him with Ashtar Alkhaison for the BBC2 Arena documentary and his appearance in a doc about Tony Hancock. I also commissioned Roger Pomphrey to direct "Who the F*ck is Peter Doherty?" for BBC3 produced by Greg Roselli. I allowed Peter and collaborators to have free use of my apartment until I was evicted in 2007 and made homeless.. During the four years my Salon was his refuge and I recorded and videod his work at every opportunity. We developed a multi media approach to his work publishing his literature and arranging press and publicity for the blood-painting project. I published Peter's prose and poetry non the literary zine "Full Moon Empty Sportsbag" - issues 3 - 12 between 2004 and 2007. I transcribed and edited his four prison diaries and in 2014 helped set up the exhibition of blood paintings in Geneva at the gallery owned by France Lombard-Bèche - wife of Thierry Lombard, head of Switzerland's longest established and most wealthy private family bank. The Salon years saw the inception of Babyshambles and was a period of intense creativity during which Peters work evoked staggering success and interest from around the globe. When he became linked with super model Kate the fame ratcheted up stratospherically with continuous press attention and interest. The tragic and as yet unresolved death of Mark Blanco in November 2006 and inquest the following year marked the end of this extraordinary period.
.Only active collaborators were permitted entry and included Mid Whitnall, Peter Wolfe, General Santana, Patrick Walden and Dot Alison amongst others - here on this channel you will find over 100 original raw, "first time" recordings of Peter Doherty songs as he wrote and developed new songs.
Bala-Chadha was a concept inspired by Coca-Cola, it was intended to be the name of a global multi-media publishing company for Peter's work and that of his collaborators with the Coca-Cola man installation and Coca-Cola wallpaper its motif.
