    I just looked up a bunch of critics' reviews of this film, and they all missed the freaking point. Spanglish is one of the most underrated films I have ever seen. A whole raft of splendid performances with a bunch of varied, layered, and interlocking themes. Culture, racism, parenthood, childhood, screaming narcissism, decency and self-control, and a dozen others without thinking hard. I never watch Sandler movies, but this one is just greatness.

    The power of the scene for me is unbelievably personal. I watched this as a young kid with no context of the problems of life and relationships. When Adam Sandler’s character mentions being blown away by the concession of the argument, I didn’t get it. But it stuck with me. Life taught me how amazing a person who is able to stop and concede when they’re in the wrong is. I look for that in people I wanna keep in my life. And I strive to be like that. This movie is amazing.

    It usually takes someone else's observation/criticism for us to recognize our own hypocrisy. Human beings aren't purely-or even primarily-rational creatures; consistently practicing what we preach takes work, and we all fail to do that work every now and then. So it helps to be willing to hear out other people when they're trying to show you where you're going wrong. Right on, Paz Vega

      The wife’s only redeeming quality was that she felt terrible for having an affair, but even then she needed her mom’s help to realize what she was doing was wrong. Her worst quality was wanting to fix the situation in one go without giving her husband a second to process the her admission. She wanted to do all the talking, and explain herself thoroughly in attempt to be forgiven instead of giving her husband the chance to react and think, which was very messed up.

    On second thought, I wish John would have thought to negotiate with Flor about the money. Cristina really busted her tail to earn that money, and deserved it. They could have set up a trust fund or college fund, drawing interest, and not just turning her loose with $600 on the streets.

    • @robinbrown2256

    • @spectralight8412
      @spectralight8412 Год назад +3

      Coming from an immigrant Mexican family I imagine this is exactly how my own mom would’ve reacted if I was still a kid. For one thing it’s irresponsible to give a kid a large sum of money without the parent knowing where it came from or why she received it. Not to mention this is her boss’ money. In general it just looks bad to allow your child take a large sum of money from your employer even if they earned it. Maybe if it was $5-$10 for washing a window or something, Flor would’ve let it slide, it would’ve been enough to buy a few snacks or a new shirt at a discount store for Christina, it would be a lot more reasonable. Flor doesn’t want her daughter to get used to that kind of treatment because it could lead to her daughter strait up mooching from her employers, when it’s the mom’s job to provide for her daughter. Pride may be a little in the way, but I’m pretty sure it has more to with Flor needing to remind her daughter that she’s in charge of their family’s assets and monitoring where the money goes like any parent should.

      @@K1ng1995 Flor doesn’t strike me as the type of person who thinks that far ahead. It’s possible her main priority is to make a living check by check. She may be more accustomed to living that way than worrying about setting money aside for later. It could overall be she felt uncomfortable or embarrassed at the idea of her kid taking so much money away from her employer.

      La película se llama Spanglish y en el doblaje los ponen a los personajes gringos a hablar español mascado, como cuando vienen de turista a Latinoamérica, esta película es mucho mejor verla en su idioma original

    Favorite scene in the entire movie. Flor is severely controlling, she freaked out about every single thing even though her child will grow up and become her own person. She treated Cristina like an extension of herself, constantly shutting down her ideas and reasonings. Flor thinks her way is always the right one, even pulling her daughter out of a good school because she’s “uncomfortable” that Cristina is no longer pure Latin. 😅 I mean, you moved to a country with different culture because you need the money but expects to not face any compromise. She is the biggest hypocrite in this movie, much worse than Deborah in my opinion.

      First day that flor introduced her child, debroah took her and didn’t ask or tell flor where Christina is, doesn’t matter that Christina will grow up to be her own person, she is still a child whose safety comes first, what if they crashed or something . How is that over reacting. That also not why flor took her out of the school. Not because she wasn’t “pure Latin” whatever that means. Foro also doesn’t do everything her way, did you not see the clip where she admitted she was wrong.She probably pulled her out because without debraoh she would have to pay to send Christina there and what would stop debroh from picking christina from the school. Also debroah was the worst. Constantly criticizing her daughters weight instead of idk, asking her to walk/run with her or learn more healthy meals. All she did was say how she was going to lose that weight. Also she severely overstepped when it came to christina. All christina was to Debbie was to make her feel good. She basically kidnapped christina, forced flor to let her stay over since she wouldn’t flor get a word in. Not to mention she cheated.

      All the way up until the last scene with Christina and Deborah, Deborah was completely controlling. She inserted herself as Christina's mom instead of being more considerate of her own daughters feelings. I don't think Flor overreacted at all. She just took control of the situation as any mother would. Deborah was at the point where she was lying just to be cool with Christina and wtf is that about? She literally gives her a laptop when they were leaving for good knowing her mom wouldn't approve. Deborah was unhinged af lol

      Javier Alonso what do Mexicans look like? Mexicans don’t have an specific look. You do know that Mexican is not a race right? there’s white Mexicans, black Mexicans, Asian mexicans. And I’ve see millions of Mexican actresses that look exactly like this

      Mexicans don't have a set look. I work at a nonprofit thrift store, and I once rung up a blue-eyed blond Mexican tourist from Acapulco who could easily pass a white gringo from the U.S. Midwest. He looked unambiguously Northern European.

      Luca Luttazi it’s not because of the way she looks, it’s because the actress is Spaniard with no Mexican blood, it wouldn’t have mattered what she would look as long if she was a real Mexican. Hollywood used to only hire Spanish actresses instead of Actual Mexican actresses. Her point is that they should’ve hired a Authentic Mexican
