  • When you read the Bible, do you read it as a textbook or as a treasure book? Do you read it to learn information and facts about God, or do you read it in order to know God?

Note on a possible question someone might have about something that is stated: After the Men's Retreat someone did ask brother Michael about his statement on there being no verses that command us to read the Bible. They brought up 1 Timothy 4:13 - Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. - And indeed that speaks of "reading", but the text is not speaking about the believer in their personal devotional life, but rather doing that reading at a church gathering.

Yes, indeed, Rev 1:3 also shows a public reading. So we are to study it, meditate & teach it (like in the Great Commission) - all, to know & adore God more intimately.
I’m teaching my kid to study & meditate just one verse of psalm 119 each day all day throughout the day, like Matthew Henry’s dad taught him (when he was a kid). So thankful to God that Matthew Henry shared this tip. Chewing one verse is better than those childish devotions in books, that do all the thinking for kids who are likely to be tempted to read a page or two & everything comes out the other ear without serious reflection. Purely reading without meditating means God is rarely worshipped or obeyed.

To those who are in Christ, it appears that Deuteronomy 17:18-20 clearly lays down the principle that we are to read the Bible every day of our lives to the end that we may fear God and carefully observe what he has commanded. To not be lifted up above others in doing so, and to read it so we may not go to the left or the right of the straight and narrow way of Christ.

Bible is not a treasure book.
It is a record of all the people touched by the same spirit.
You must preach your own gospel :(
