It's astonishing how many people say professional photographers wouldn't use this camera, while plenty of pros say they love using it and bought one themselves.
I'm buying one. I'll keep you posted. If nothing else, my clients will like it.

Joe, thanks for your review! I have always enjoyed your honesty over the years. I have heard you speak several times mostly at WPPI... Anyway, I love my Df(silver) and am getting awesome images with it! I highly recommend it! It is so lightweight and sweet to use. I bought it mainly as a backup to my D3s but it is becoming my Nikon of choice.....

If it's good enough for Joe McNally, it's definitely good enough for me ! I've come from an olympus omd e m1, to nikon D610, to nikon D750 and now the Df. I think now that I have this camera I'll put the others away for a while and really get familiar with this one, it seems similar to the D750 but different at the same time.

I, too, started with a Nikkormat. Have always been a Nikon user and always will be.

Gorgeous camera for this type of photographer. Always been a fan of Joe. This is no chump here.
Df = Delightful Fantastic... This is not for young photographers who have grown up on the melted-butter rounded all look-alike SLRs or DSLRs. No this is for photographers like me, and much better ones like Joe. I had a Nikon FM from 1977 (still have it actually) and it rarely left my eye until I got Nikon F3hp with MD-4 in 1983. I shot over 150,000 photographs with that F3hp until I stupidly allowed myself to be drawn into digital in 2006. Think about that for a second... I shot through the same camera body for 23 years. Now in the DSLR world your body is only good for 5 years max. I miss using my F3hp, but film is just so hard now. For years I've wished for something like the Df. In my opinion they did not go retro enough. Put in a nice bright split-image viewfinder, take away AF, the monitor and rear buttons... Give me just the same controls; all analog as my beloved F3hp. Photography has been ruined by the rear monitor. You can never learn to be truly great unless you have trial and error. Make me wait till I get home and download to my Mac. Real pure still Photographers make their camera an extension of their body. As a 50 year old photographer, to me this may be the first step in a dream of many of my generation. The Df is comfortable... It is what so many of us have been missing. Please Nikon... Keep them coming!

Great little video - I met with you Joe in England 2013 ish - well we actualy kinda bumped into each other at a photo. show. Couple more connections (sort of) - I've just purchased a REAL Nikon a Nikkormat FT2 and the train you photographed (great image) is often referred as the 'Ghost Train' - the BBC did a fantastic radio programe all about it - simply briliant. Worth a listen if you ever get the time.

"ohhhh but you can't use this camera for professional work it doesn't have dual card slots"
My brother in Christ the Nikon D700 only had 1 card slot and it is the greatest professional digital camera of all time

The Df was NEVER Nikon's flagship body. It was a quirky attempt to appeal to photographers that prefer a tactile experience or that feel nostalgic for old Nikon film bodies.
Enjoyed this video, which certainly appeals to the second set of people targeted by Nikon with the Df. It's a great camera for many people and I'd love to see a Mark II with a better auto focusing system than the D600, which ain't great.

    Joe is a good photographer.
    But this camera is made for Nikon's D _ _ _ _ F _ _ _ _ _ _ _(DF) using Sony's sensor.
Hell, why not shoot film and go to Walmart and have them print them out for you.
This will save you big bucks.

Some of us do still use film SLRs, but that's a pain when you are in another country. I'm strongly considering buying this camera because it fits a practical objective niche in my professional work.
It's the same sensor and processor as the D4. Check nikon's website.

You should save up on Fuji GFX 50S.
Or pre-paid & pre-order for a better model: ATG Fuji GFX 50Sr, if you are a working professional.

You are kidding right? Satire? Why in the blue hell would I switch from Nikon (one) and to crap without decent lenses like a Fuji? With all due respect, do you work with cameras?
And that is a medium format camera? I don't need a medium format camera for my professional work, and if I did I would get a d810, but I'll probably get a D810a in a few months instead. I have access to lots of open desert for astrophotography.
What? Do you even know what I do professionally? You did not ask so I highly doubt you work in the field considering you didn't even ask what kind of photography I am paid for.
I don't make as much as I would like for my landscape work, but thank you for your bizarre suggestion.

paid by Nikon :) I do not see Joe using it much - he would much rather use the D3s or D4 or D800 - better and faster focus systems then the Df - Df has to small of a grip for a 70-200mm f2.8 which is a main stay of Pro's
Df is for the collectors - yes it looks nice etc - I do not expect it to sell as it is to costly for beginners and Pro's will continue to use their other great FF Nikon gear
