I generally have a difficult time understanding what Aussies are saying but for some reason I have no problem understanding every word that Terysa says and enjoy listening to her voice. Nick however is a different story, mainly due to the rapidity of his words. ;) This was a very enjoyable episode....thank you both!!
What a special, scenic part of the canal and your editing along with great shots just gets better and better (and it has always been good!) You just cannot get this feel for the French countryside in a car. With the canal you almost feel as if you are back in time about 250 years.
Google translate: I had a great laugh when I saw you master the first locks. And had to think about our first two days. Nice to see that you are now much more relaxed, and also the locks "enjoy" can. Oh and ... what you saw was not a rat, nor a beaver .... it was a rat-rat Nutria
I fucking love this canal series. I'm sorry for the profanity, but I wanted this to stand out from the 'I like this' or 'I love this' or 'I love-love this series' mediocrity. More than any other photograph or documentary I have ever experienced, this series has made me want to visit & explore the French countryside.. by boat or otherwise. 53 beautiful locks (so sayeth wikipedia). Also, I'm drunk. Cheers!
Love the canal tour and cycle ride adventure to check out the village. Greetings from New Zealand on a Sunday afternoon dismal and cold, with winter rain here. Nice to watch your channel in sunny climes in France. Escapism!
Neither a beaver nor a rat, what you saw was more probably a ragondin (= coypu). They've become pretty common in fresh water all over France. As for the sand in the rain, it came all the way from the Sahara, borne by the southern winds :) The mystery dessert is an île flottante = soft meringue floating on custard sauce.
@@sailingrubyrose Unfortunately, they brought in some Castor Canadensis (Beaver), in years gone by. Now they are trying to remove them, or were, by all means. Cheers
Some nice filming there at the locks. I do not think people understand how stressfull it is to film and do 20 other things at the same time. Well done!
You two are so much fun together, I am semi-jealous of you, Nick. Such a beautiful, smart and funny young lady in your life. You have got it all together with her.
Representing Australia? Well Terysa. As an Australian you can represent me anytime, and I'm sure you'd do a better job than I can ....AND definitely better than any politician!!!
Great episode as usual. Long day. Nick looks tired at the restaurant. Therysa wore him out. At least Nick has hair that won’t go down. Much better than no hair at all. Looking so forward to all the Annapolis Boat show videos. I’m sad that I am not able to attend and I am 90 minutes away by car. Was really looking forward to meeting you two. I will just get me some Ruby Rose swag. That will make me feel better! Have fun at the boat show!
Guys, do ye even know just how funny ye are at times ... It comes so natural to ye and makes me smile long after I watch the blog !!! Keep it up !! LOL
I’m a Florida Power Boater but love this trip you’s guys are doing. Going on my bucket list... even though I’m not a huge France fan... do love the food and wine😏
We stopped for lunch at a similar town on our trip to Carcassonne and what struck us as it did at the start of your video was the lack of people on the streets. we stpopped at a picnic table at the church in the center of town and ate our lunch and never saw a single soul.
Looks delicious guys!! "it needs to be tamed.... but it just won't go down" LOL thanks for that, definitely made my week!Fair winds and following seas Ruby Rose (even in the canals LOL)!
One of my favourite reads was "Long dog to Carcassonne ". This recent series from you has captured that story via your travels so well. Great edit, great humour and super storytelling. Been watching you forever and wish you the very best for the future.
I always see Nick at the rudder eating. I assume he has to do the running for the other half of the canal - otherwise he gains weight while Terysa gets slime due to the daily runs 😉
Enjoyable viewing from our side of the screen so relaxing and comforting as well as great music combined and your narratives were wonderful. I am sure from your side of the screen what a workout ack "almost feel in" maybe oh what aggravation with other vessels many operated by people who have a problem with a bicycle let alone a car or a boat. No wonder Alcohol is involved at the end of the day. Yes that is a great photo of you one hand with a wine glass tipping towards your mouth and the other hand dipping a bite of food. Asto if you pronounced the name of the town Castle-whatever-arri just say it around a French person and they will correct you.
Ah brings back fond memories, I went in the opposite direction to you guys- loved it! We had a friend with tons of boat experience captaining our boat so we were fine, but there was a couple near us the one day who went straight across from one side to the other all the time, hitting the side walls each time ! They were a nightmare and had no clue, don’t know what state that boat must have been in when they eventually made it down the canal.😂🤣😂
And we open - with Nick walking out of the bushes after taking a leak. I'm glad I'm a man. And we end - with a lovely moment at dinner with a "that's what she said" moment. Just like Gone with the Wynn's.
You probabky saw a Ragondin. It's like a Rat, it's huge, strange mix with a beaver, lives in rivers and canal, huge problem the nest in the banks. Île flottante, is White eggs, but no sugar added, what we call Crème anglaise, and caramel on top. edit : I see someone else told you already :-)
Hi guys. Great video, lovely place to visit. Made it to Miami, but unfortunately can't make it to Annapolis. Flying out today. Sh.t, what a b.st.rd. Will look forward to yor boat reviews on here.
How many locks 'in toto' will you have gone through on this trip? Thanks for all the hard work putting these vids together, just fantastic! Again the sound is excellent!
As I am catching up on your videos and watching your canal trip, I have a simple question. Does having a retractable keel add significant cost to a sail boat?
"What do we do when the weather's bad?" Going through 12-14 locks wasn't even in my top three given the carry-on you two hands on deck giggle fanatics get up to! 😜😂 You two are fantastic btw! 🥰
Did I understand you to say that the rain had sand in it? Or maybe salt? How can that be? Also, are there a lot of mosquitoes through the canals? Great video!
A lot of sand gets kicked up in the Sahara just a wee bit to the south of France, & doesn't fall down until the rain brings it down, often in Europe. (I believe I've heard that occasionally it even makes it all the way across the duck pond to Florida.)
@@pneumarian wow! I had no idea. I don't think I would like rain that actually hurts when it falls. Thank you for the geography and meteorological lesson; I appreciate it!
Absolutely lovely episode. I mean combine the beautiful French countryside with Terysa's sweet face and personality and wow, so nice. ...and Nick with his cheesy snide remarks, I'd be there right with him. If you ever stop in San Diego, I think we could have a great time showing you around and having beers. We have LOTS of craft beers. Loved some of the camera shots on this one too. Nice creative camera work. Makes us want to get back to France soon. Maybe an easy solution for the countryside shots, and others the camera never seems to do justice to (and not a sales pitch - I don't work for either) but the new add on anamorphic lenses for the iPhone are high quality and really a good bang for the buck, all the while fitting in your pocket. Maybe one or the other would work a deal with you? You're probably aware of these but the two brands are Sandmarc (www.sandmarc.com/pages/shop-anamorphic-lens) and Moment (www.shopmoment.com/shop/anamorphic-lens). It'll force a shift in the video's format for the anamorphic bits, but I think our eyes can deal if it otherwise gives us a cinematic moment to enjoy. I've been using the Sandmarc lenses, but the lens cover lock-on for the Moment lenses is a bit easier to deal with. Cheers and warmest
Great episode. Looks so peaceful. Nick, I'm a long time follower on RUclips, and more recently on Instagram. Always been curious what guitar you have on board. Looks like it might be a Martin. What is it?
Hi Terysa, hi Nick. We have the same canal idea, but we are not sure is this possible with a draught of 1,80 meters? Unfortunately we don't have a lifting keel :-( Can you tell me your experience. Thanks a lot and have a wonderful trip!
I have a plan I'm working on for sailing, and I'm getting there, but everywhere you two stop I just want to pack up and retire to. You're making it tough for a dreamer! Also: Any fishing allowed in the canals? If so, whats in there?

Hey Terysa, please be honest: did Nick make you run the entire length of the canal?
Haha, not quite- but I liked it! Got a little dose of exercise!
