The engine is designed to fail early in it's life, the wet belt, stretch belts, friction tensioner and ill advised service plan make this engine a disaster from day one. But you made a great video on how to repair some of this, keep up the good work 👍
Wicked seeing you do this. My belt broke recently and completely ruined my engine. Got to replace the engine. I wish Ford would tell people about known problems so we could service them properly.
I just recently received a letter from ford requesting me to make an appointment with them to inspect the belts condition. Has to be changed that day if it fails the inspection.
Ford are going to stop handing out free engines very quickly there will be much stricter measures on what qualifies for a replacement by ford but its still there fault they designed such a crap engine in the first place
It is actually an excellent engine as long as the timing belt is changed in time. I believe that there is now a modified belt that lasts longer while the oil change and bel change intervals have also been shortened.
Not that great, mine is getting a new engine and it’s not even two years old, followed Ford service intervals to the letter. In my view they are shite wet belt crap. Ford offered me £50! Yes £50, this is costing me in lost revenue through work, and other associated costs.
@@Metal05 They are under warranty and the new engine will not directly cost you. Or shouldn’t unless they charge for fluids. Your new engine should have the modified parts.

This isn’t the point. I get what you’re saying though. So far being self employed I lost three major jobs because I didn’t have my van with tools in it. The hassle of losing time on other jobs phoning Ford U.K. lost time and productivity, this amounts to about £5k. It’s diabolical from a company Fords size. I will never purchase this crap again. I hoped and prayed it would be ok. I didn’t even want a Ford custom. I’d ordered a VW, but they cancelled it due to chip shortage and loom issues around covid time, 🤷🏼 go home to your partner or bank manager and say you’ve lost £5k this month! @@hedydd2
Hi I've similar van mines an 18 plate done 68,000 mile I've heard some real horror stories about belt failure on these vans so good to see How its done and the mileage u advise to get it replace. How much roughly would I be looking to be paying.
They say 150,000 or ten years whichever comes first, but no harm getting it done earlier for a peace of mind. Some of these vans are under recall by ford and if it snaps they put a new engine free of charge
Use a jack from underneath put a wooden block and jack from gearbox closest point towards the engine. Be careful as there’s a sensor close underneath near the jacking point
If you take off the oil pump as well as the sump then you’ll be able to check a part of the belt but you won’t be able to see the whole belt in order to determine if there is damage, and if so the extent of it. Hope that was helpful

In the Ranger it is a simple job that takes no longer than changing many dry timing belts. There is less room and therefore it is more difficult for transverse engines fitted to front wheel drive Transit.

The bolt is for waterplug.

Hello mate, does fuel pump needs to be locked/timed on these engines ? Thank you
As long as the fuel pump isn’t removed no need to lock whilst doing cam belt change
Can you just take the sump off to check for delamination of the belt or do you have to have the belt etc done aswell

As long as your timing belt hasn’t snapped, you can go ahead, pin the camshaft and mark the bottom 👍

I hear there is a recall by Ford who will do engine replacement if you have a failure due to belts under 100k miles.
