It's not like they're street racing, or doing a powerskid in a busy environment like that Torana driver last week. Burnouts and drifting are relatively low speed activities that they're doing on fairly empty roads with big visibility. Even on that mountain road, I'm pretty sure the wagon in front was a spotter car, so they would alert them about an oncoming vehicle. The worst that would happen is they hit a parked car and have too pay some damages. There isn't much life being risked here really. The news stations would have you think otherwise though, naturally.

Which is why I, and many other young blokes, are asking the government to build some facilities as an outlet for car enthusiasts, especially car enthusiasts that aren't loaded with money. A reasonably affordable place to do this would solve a lot of issues, but the politicians are just completely dead set against it. I mean, how is anyone even supposed to practice if they want to get involved in the burnout or drifting scenes if there aren't any facilities available to practice in?
