I loved Bat Puncher. Mega-Pak was neat especially when it unlocks a really cool secret. Jester was, for me, ironically the best cart on Sydney Hunter which in itself seems like a filler cart. Farming Sim is a joke xmas gift for the C64 mini. Imagine putting this on a cart then hiding Rogue 64 as a secret freebie!
Just play it for, like, six hours after drinking six cups of coffee: the difficulty won't seem so bad after you've put exam-prep-level effort into it, on this schedule, for a week or so.
Farming Simulator! How very dare you ;-) Home Computer Heroes 1 is the closest cart to earn the title "All Killer No Filler" :-) Now there's an idea for another video. Keep up the awesome work!
The real filler on HCH was Bridge Strike and Tanks Furry. Both dreadful, Bridge Strike because of slow loading and Tanks Furry because the difficulty curve is awful.
It depends on how you want to market your product. The seal of quality never did Nintendo any harm. Having poor quality control on games compilations will just result in the carts being left in the bargain bin when it comes to pricing. People will pay more for a premium feel product.
I hate that there are so many filler games on the carts lately because they know these games are bad, so why bother? Quality control is the biggest flaw of Evercade in so many ways.
Filler or not, I’d rather have 7 games than 6. Don’t really understand why anyone would want less. Who really cares if a little bonus extra is on the “wrong” cart? It’s at very least 5 mins entertainment while you ascertain whether or not it’s worth playing again.
@ But with the 7 you still have 6 quality games you just have one extra on top. It’s like when the Beano came with a free toy - the comic was quality and the toy was rubbish but still happy you got a rubbish toy that lasted 10 mins.
There's some real clunkers there. But there's many more, including Breakdance on C64 volume 3, which was (and still is) notoriously bad. The cassette version was even worse (the one on the cart is the disc version), but it still got re-released for £2.99 on the Americana label. On the same cart is also an early Rowlands game called Cyberdyne Warrior. It's brutally difficult as you only have one life, and although you have a lengthy energy bar, the enemy respawning is relentless. I'd say it's a bad filler, as it was originally part of a hewson 4 pack, which included insects in space. To make it a hat trick , last but by no means least, is Heatseaker on the Thalamus collection. It wasn't a great game back in the day , and whilst it's not doing any harm by being on the cart, it smacks of bad filler when compared to the other games. It lacks the immediacy of the other games in terms of playability & satisfaction.
@@CrazyBurger ahahaha I wasn't referring to you but to the game itself! 😃 For wwhat I know, it has been added only because it was a game made in 1 day. And we can surely see that!
NES Sky Shark should never have been added to a collection dedicated solely to arcade coin-ops....and not even as a hidden bonus game. Also, if they want to add hidden/bonus extras then why not use the Japanese versions (some of which are actually better than their region 1 counterparts) to keep the collection pure?
I love Evercade, but i think the mentality is to put a couple good games on the cart, and fill in the rest with the bottom of the barrell. Save the rest of the good games for a volume 2 and 3 etc.
I do wish we could get a "console" Toaplan cart with them all on from Megadrive and Nes. That said Sky Shark Nes might seem odd on Toaplan 4 but if you think about it, it saves having it locked to VS as a bonus game for using two carts to unlock it. 😉👍
Corporate strategy is "just the right balance of shovelware". And who can blame them? They're the most successful retro platform/project of the decade as a result.
Jester is the best game on the Sydney Hunter cart. It's also an important piece of forgotten gaming history. Morphcat certainly needed the additional "filler", which are better than many other "real" games. Tennis All Stars is four player, which is worth something. SkyShark isn't very good but as Tim Follin's first game it's worth including on a British retrogames system. MegaPak has a super addictive cave flyer, a fun blackjack game, a great yahtzee game, a nice Game and Watch style game, a silly hangman game, and the only text adventure we have on Evercade, as well as some fun toys. I have spent more time playing it than most games on Evercade. Why people fixate on a graphical demo that was "impossible" on the Lynx is beyond me. Megapak costs $50 on the Lynx and it's well worth it. Uchusen and Chibi Monster Br4wl I can't defend.
I really hope Blaze takes note of videos like this and become more aware about their quality control situation before adding any more filler titles to their collections. Personally, at this point, I would just hold off from getting any more of these cartridges, unless you know it's good or if it's right for you. Unless you're a collector who absolutely has to have every cart for collectors value.
Piko's owner has said he wanted to do carts of only 2 games going forward (seemingly in response to the Metal Dragon cart) but Blaze would only take a minimum of 8 so he said he won't be dealing with them forvthe time being.
Filler games are still games and will appeal or repel with no rhyme or reason. At least they're making them available despite their mediocrity and flaws. Evercade is the gaming version of Talking Pictures freeview television channel. Some well hidden content being made available but largely bland. Worth keeping an eye on to see what they knock out next though.
“filler” I think should be abandoned by Blaze! It’s almost like having 1 track on a classic Album. Which is bad. But included for some reason?! It ruins the entire composition of the whole! LESS is actually FINE! It projects Quality! Well done Crazy Burger for making this vid. It’s about time something was said about this issue! 🤔😊👍

For the most part I think “filler” isn’t bad. The alternative is probably 1 less game on the collection. And as you say, some are actually good.
Dude... Sky Shark... one of the greatest of all time, in that genre, on that system. With an excellent soundtrack. This is Retro Gaming Lore.

@@KeenRetroGames Ah possibly. Tanks Furry needs friends. And Bridge Strike really makes you want to play River Raid instead.
