Fine Gold Recovery using ball-mill, gold spiral, amalgam and mercury retort

- We normally hunt for nuggets but there are times when we find gold in matrix and even gold nuggets containing matrix. The gold needs to be separated from this matrix. This video shows how we process the material using an improvised ball-mill (cement mixer), mercury, a gold spiral and finally a mercury retort/condenser.
There is still gold in the mercury pool after filtering. It only resists filtering when the gold level is above a certain concentration
Love your content. Coolest channel on RUclips.
Nice one lads
cool would like to see more of ball mill. I have 2 of the older spiral wheels never seen mercury in it cool
ruclips.net/video/MD6c9TKEk_A/видео.html enjoy!
Mantap 👍
Good work can you make a video of your cement mixer/balls/how long your run it please or just cement please this is just the video I was looking for
ruclips.net/video/MD6c9TKEk_A/видео.html enjoy!
Legend thanks man lol i have that exact mixer
Do you have any merc for sale jkabro@yahoo.com.au or know any one got a bit but need more
First thing is to take the paddles out of the mixer. The balls come from the scat heaps from mines that had closed down, use a mix of big and small so they tumble. Don’t try and process too much at once or you will bog it down. If anyone is looking for mercury you can buy it but you will need a class 8 poison license. REMEMBER your bowl won’t last forever ..... good luck
Greate
So non PC great vid
I don't understand what the spiral wheel was used for.
remove the magnetics
How can I stop the gold from sticking to the metal after I heated the amalgam in the retort?
Flux.
@@crathes663 Are you talking a plumber Flux
www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-choose-gold-smelting-flux-kelvin-lin
@@crathes663 Thanks I will try that.
@@timesaver3 Lou, on reflection, you don't heat the amalgam to melting point, just red. Also, the cotton cloth should help prevent the gold sticking.
Flux should be used in the final crucible melt after the retort process.
Hello guys am doing a research project on something environmentally friendly which can replace mercury for small scale miners, please help with ideas
Same nduna yam
If u found something hit me up
Take a look at eddy current separation technology.
Hi mate where’s best place to get a spiral wheel from
www.goldfeverprospecting.com/goldgenie.html .... but you never said where you were located.
Is it okay to handle Merc with bare hands
Matallic mercury yes, but you have to make sure not to ingest or get it into any cuts. You’d also want to handle it in a well ventilated area because of the mercury vapours. If it’s a mercury compound then you’d need special gloves to handle it, esp if you’re working with an organic mercury compound (has carbon) like methylmercury which is highly toxic.
@@absolutelyrandom4978 whats the diff between a merc comp and metallic merc?
@@HokageHustle88 Metallic mercury is mercury itself, just the element. It’s safe to handle as long as you don’t ingest, breathe in the vapours, or get it into cuts. That’s the kind of mercury you’d see in old mercury thermometers, it’s generally not lethal. Mercury compounds however, tend to be more toxic. A well known example is dimethylmercury, where a researcher accidentally got it on her glove and died 2 weeks (?) after she got symptoms of mercury poisoning.
Just wear gloves
Some of these comments.... 😆some people are so terrified of mercury. These are the same people that plug their ears when an ambulance goes by with sirens.
Mercury can be very damaging to people and all living things. It needs to be handled with care and respect. You will note that most of the time the mercury is under a layer of cold water. This stops the vapour escaping. Also, when retorting, the condenser precipitates and contains escaping mercury vapour.
Touching murcery with bare hands. Thats a no for me.
Depends on the mercury and whether or not you have cuts or scrapes.
What about burning it hahaha
ah these are the guys with no fear of mercury.
I found 3 balls of mercury in my paydirt I bought can I just trash them, I live in apartment.
I wouldn't. Save them in a glass or plastic bottle under a layer of water. The water is extremely important. Essential, in fact! The water layer prevents the mercury from vaporizing. The only time mercury is dangerous is when it's in a gaseous state.
Bad news for this process!
Great process but SOOO toxic!! You literally carved days of your lifespan doing this
Handling mercury bare handed not the most intelligent thing to be doing!
As with most things in life, one needs to find a balance between caution and compromise. One could wear gloves but this is more likely to cause spillages due to reduced manual dexterity.
@matesandgold5712 What about the latex bend-over exam gloves?
