Possibly the greatest album of all time. Only five pieces of music... but could cover and capture any mood for the listener. Sounds crazy, but I remember sitting in my car in traffic and Flamenco Sketches was playing. The weather was cold and rainy with just a touch of snow... and it was just a perfect moment. Magic. Thanks Miles... lol... I even had a cat named after him.
Miles Davis is one of my all-time favourite musicians, and to some people that's surprising, because he didn't really have the same level of technical virtuosity that guys like Dizzy Gillespie did. But what Miles did have was that rare gift of being able to play the perfect note every time. You listen to his solos, and it's like it was meant to be. You can't even imagine the music without the notes he plays - until he plays it again, in a different way, and it's perfect all over again..
Bought my first jazz record, you can all guess which one I chose. What a masterpiece. If melancholy was a sound, this would be it. Perfection, from start to finish.
Kind of Blue...Kind of Cool...Kind of Miles. When I was really turning on to jazz (1975-1981), Davis took a six year vacation (to re-discover his art). There is no excuse for my missing his final 10 years (1981-1991) except I probably had lost my mind. Those who disliked this were probably jealous. And I can understand that. When you miss the baddest, coolest, greatest jazz musician ever to walk the earth you've got to get angry at something.
The Kind Of Blue album is the single standing alone best ever jazz album... simply divine & sublime... no other can or has come close to touching it...
I'm still in agreement. "Kind of Blue" is the without a doubt, the finest jazz recording ever. I know its been said time and time again, but if you want to listen to and learn about jazz, this album is the one to begin with. That's right, I said album. (I still have my original album purchase in perfect condition although I did purchase the box set on CD.)
@Gnocchi you were born in the right time. i say what you say everyday and cry watching the woodstock footage. if you were born then you would probally listen to them, or not, being born in this age now we can look back and say "damn" time to evolve. i wish i was right there with miles when he recorded his tracks.......we will never know. never.
Sans doute le plus grand album de blues chez les Bopers, immense et incontournable transition dans la musique du 20ème siècle Miles était un Génie entouré de génies.
I think I was 24 when I heard it. The documentary is correct. If you were a musician or really have a passion for music this is a must have. I do believe his nephew did a hip-hop rendition of one of the songs. Now before you knock it. Listen to it.
I remember playing "Four" in my schools jazz band we had listened to it first and it was amazing. Then when we played and instead of the suggested tempo we start at almost double time. It made the song that more memorable to us but we all stilled loved how the original went.
Everyone should buy this album, listen to it and experience it. Is it true John Coltrane recorded was on Kind of Blue? If so, think about the fact Coltrane was on that historic album and the equally great, Love Supreme.
man the first time I heard it I knew miles had gotten to that place, God I said to myself to think I have been given the privilege to be alive to testify
yeah ninikolaev the problem with miles is that he has done so many styles in his time, from the bebop to the "cool" to the hard bop....he has played in so many styles
Rap is the cousin to all musical artforms in this country, but jazz in particular where it gets much of its improv style and sense instantaneous creation from.
WAIT A MINUTE! This opening ISN'T a RECORDING from: "KIND OF BLUE". It's a rendition! Later, on, thank you... . YET- AGAIN... it doesn't FINISH with "IT"! Maybe I'm quibbling. BlackIrish n' all... . (I'm not black- but it sounds good...) May OUR Lord Bless Miles Davis for mandkind's sake... I'm glad my mother was a pearl diver, because I'll have to hold my breath for quite a while waiting for another 'Davis to wander through our lives. May God bless you all!
It's in no way like blowing into a kazoo. You hum into a kazoo, you buzz into a trumpet. It's one of the hardest instruments to play, because your face isn't built to do that. It actually hurts to play for too long or to play too high. Though you are correct about the keys. There are indeed three of them and you do indeed press them down. In fact, there are only 7 ways that you can press them down. The flip side of that is controlling which note you get by tightening or loosening your lips.
Listen to the tempo. This is different times, slow times. Too slow for most kids. Everything has to happen fast, and now. You need the right mindset for the Miles. But it's amazing, at least we can enjoy all this.
if you enjoy music, you should listen to kind of blue - what a trip to the brain. And pretty much the opposite of "trip to the brain" by Suicidal Tendencies, although that is also a good tune.
It’s as much a Bill Evans Album as MD album, Bill Co wrote or wrote and arranged most of this album, no one is mentioning Bill. Kind of Blue actually sounds more like a BE album than a MD album
Possibly the greatest album of all time.

Kind of Blue, possibly the coolest album ever made.
Definitely
Absolutely
Wish I had heard it 15 years before I did in the mid 70's.
Been a Jazz addict ever since.
Thanks for posting the doc, I'm sharing it.
as a teenager this was probably my greatest musical influence!!! thanks goodness!!!
Kinda Blue will never never EVER go out of style.....The best Miles Davis album of all time...HANDS DOWN!!
You don't love music until you can appreciate this
And yet, it's still one of the greatest albums ever released.

its the next gen man im downloading it right now, all kinds of ages listen to all kinds of music especially with the internet these days : )
Jazz makes me feel pretty joyous really. The fact that Miles and the rest of these cats were gifted and talented is just the icing on the cake.
Kind of Blue...Kind of Cool...Kind of Miles. When I was really turning on to jazz (1975-1981), Davis took a six year vacation (to re-discover his art). This is my favorite album of all time, no doubt.
Discovering...how genuine of MIles...what a man.
Beyond sublime!
The Kind Of Blue album is the single standing alone best ever jazz album... simply divine & sublime... no other can or has come close to touching it...

This is about as good as it gets. It's happy, sad and cool all at the same time.
simply amazing, a cathartic harmonic convergence of time and space,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
50jaar geleden ,kind of blue gekocht ❤.
Er zijn vele goede platen de revue gepasseerd, maar je houdt altijd een special 🎉.
I had a cat named Miles... He was the coolest cat ever.
Pure Genius! Kind of blue is a timeless classic.
Happy B'day Mr Davis, thanks for your legacy
Stunning beauty.The Master.
@Gnocchi you were born in the right time. i say what you say everyday and cry watching the woodstock footage. if you were born then you would probally listen to them, or not, being born in this age now we can look back and say "damn" time to evolve. i wish i was right there with miles when he recorded his tracks.......we will never know. never.
The genius!!! the master!!!, the one and only Miles Davis!!!. This tune is one of my favorites!. "So what"!.
The number one jazz album in history still today.....still amazing. Even the RIAA has it listed as the number one jazz album ever.
All wound up, feeling hyper...turn out the lights, strap on the earphones, turn on this.
Total chill.
A MASTER OF "THE FEEL"
a true dealer of mood
Hearing Miles Is like a gourmet food for your soul...
Miles Davis The Genius!
Un capolavoro assoluto.
Grazie Miles.
I love this record.
This album is amazing.
Miles ahead. He was great.
Sans doute le plus grand album de blues chez les Bopers, immense et incontournable transition dans la musique du 20ème siècle Miles était un Génie entouré de génies.
Miles is the man!
miles has a real nice sound to him. Can't say much more, I ain't no music expert or jazz man, but I know what sounds good and what doesn't. nice.
Genius !! What more ???
I think I was 24 when I heard it. The documentary is correct. If you were a musician or really have a passion for music this is a must have. I do believe his nephew did a hip-hop rendition of one of the songs. Now before you knock it. Listen to it.
I do love Miles Davis´ music.
Music making history. Nothing like Kind of Blue, nobody like Miles. My life is happier because of the album. It sound ridiculous, but is true.
So BRIGHT and BLUE ....
I have a Bible and Miles! Speaking only for myself, I enjoy them both passionately....Bblessed
I remember playing "Four" in my schools jazz band we had listened to it first and it was amazing. Then when we played and instead of the suggested tempo we start at almost double time. It made the song that more memorable to us but we all stilled loved how the original went.
This is a masterpiece in musical recording.
GENIUS
What can I say, THANK YOU!!!
The Greatest!
Brilliant! My god, wonderful.
Thank you for this important posting; a jazz fan!
This album changed me
Mile Davis was the Pelé of trumpet
Etiketem Embalagens Na verdade, o Pelé que é o Miles Davis do futebol.
Pelé was the Miles Davis of football/soccer
Bruno C.
I'm amazed this album solk so many copies at the time. It certainly isn't "easy" music, and of course back then modal jazz was very new.
what really pisses me off is why the hell doesent this have more views this is real music why the hell do people not realise this.
this album is sorta spooky in a way. I love the way it makes me feel
I've been saying, this album has been "Haunting" me since I have discovered it.
Miles and Miles......
This and Sketches of Spain(it's successor) together sum up what Jazz was all about
big miles, BIG
Grazie!
Jazz is reallly a great music... i love it :-))
They*re playing at the barcelona Jazz festival right now. Well Jimmy Cobb is, and its a tribute to "Kind of Blue"
yeah ninikolaev the problem with miles is that he has done so many styles in his time, from the bebop to the "cool" to the hard bop....he has played in so many styles
@Sdiddy810 Thank you very much. I have not read such beautiful words for a long time.
Miles.......Sho' Nuff!
Amazing stuff...
Miles was the Stravinsky of Jazz.
Both awarded by UNESCO, if I remember well, as the musicians with the great influences in 20th century music.
This was play in the backround of the Tommy B. show KBCA 105.1 Jazz Los Angeles back in the day
King of cool.
I WOULD LOVE TO LEARN PLAY LIKE MILES DAVIS
Wat Miles Davis betekende voor de jazz is wat David Bowie betekent heeft voor de popcultuur en Beethoven voor de klassieke muziekontwikkeling.
Susanne de Swaen I agree. (And I don't know why but I understand this comment even though I am not dutch.)
6:56 So true. I would feel safe recommending this album to anyone.
Just relaxing......
Was that John Coltrane standing back there?? My God. Just phenomenal.
people should not be alowed to talk aboute this it is some holy shit
Lol.. I'm gonna give you that one, my friend. Yes.. It's the greatest recording of all time. I was just being nice. :)
Rap is the cousin to all musical artforms in this country, but jazz in particular where it gets much of its improv style and sense instantaneous creation from.

Tre bon mon ami! Merci.
I want a time machine for the 1959, Now!!!
They are called valves and keys, interchangeably, but you are correct
my mother was right, i would love jazz at some point..now that i've listened enough of all that fake music, it's time to enjoy this masterpiece...:)
Man! At 5.26 notice the rack of coat hangers in the studio for the musicians. WHY didn’t I think of that.
this makes me glad my parents named me after this man.
Great Jimmy Cobb rip💙😢
Listen to the tempo. This is different times, slow times.
Too slow for most kids. Everything has to happen fast, and now. You need the right mindset for the Miles.
But it's amazing, at least we can enjoy all this.
@Sdiddy810 Great post mate, put a smile on my face.
if you enjoy music, you should listen to kind of blue - what a trip to the brain. And pretty much the opposite of "trip to the brain" by Suicidal Tendencies, although that is also a good tune.
The album was recorded originally 3/2/59 - 4/22/59, so next March/April will be the 54th anniversary. Must take history seriously
It’s as much a Bill Evans Album as MD album, Bill Co wrote or wrote and arranged most of this album, no one is mentioning Bill. Kind of Blue actually sounds more like a BE album than a MD album
@Sdiddy810 ... Add this to your list of reasons to listen to MD: It's 4:52 am and there's nothing better to hear.
