7:30 The semi is definitely to blame there. You CANT drive down the middle lane like that, looking at the start of the clip there's no turn immediately after that parking lot you thought they were turning into so its clear they were just driving along, prolly for a future light, just as you said.
@7:50 You weren't in the wrong, cammer. You and the truck were both in a TWLTL (Two Way Left Turn Lane). The entire purpose of them is how YOU were using it... to take a left hand turn within the next 50 to 100 feet at most. They aren't a regular traffic lane, and you aren't supposed to drive in them for extended distances like that truck did (if you do that, you risk head-on collisions with anyone from the other direction using it as the turn lane it's supposed to be).
Also, that truck was signalling an intent to turn the whole time.
I would really like to see the insurance try to say it's the camera fault while the truck was in the turning lane for the intersection before his actual turn. It's a miracle the cammer didn't get hit risking that life saving move.
yeah, the whole point of these lanes is to avoid clogging up the left lane. these lanes can be a little iffy when there are 2 left turns on either side, close to each other, but generally are pretty safe. now when you as a (either a government or commercial) dump truck driver, you should be fully obeying all traffic laws (not that anyone shouldn't) and taking your due diligence to be as safe a driver as possible. you are driving a massive vehicle, that can cause massive damage if used improperly. and in this case, this is definitely improper and this driver should lose their license.

I too, agree. The truck got into this lane too early for their turn despite being supposedly more skilled and having a better view of the road. The cammer did it correctly from what I can see.

Honestly half of these clips wouldn't result in crashes if people weren't so damn entitled, and/or used defensive driving.
Imagine adding ten seconds to your commute for slowing down instead of keeping going and now having to waste more time because an idiot rear ended your side.

Correct, you're not allowed to drive straight through an intersection in a marked turn area. Legally he was supposed to make the left behind him. He blatantly avoided the turn because he thinks he is privileged to drive a big truck.

@@ducewags I think regardless of the camera, look at the damage... the cammer clearly hit a vehicle on the front right quarterpanel after they already had ownership of the lane. Creeping into a lane doesn't mean you're clear to make the lane change; Should the other driver have yielded? Ehhh... probably? The fact that the cammer was NOT in that lane and hit another car likely means they're at fault.

@@ducewags Turn signals to change lanes are not a command, they are a request. When you change lanes you make a request to the drivers in that lane that you want to merge. They do not have to let you. They can even completely ignore you and if an accident happens because the person requesting decided to go anyway, it is the requester's fault. Every US state's driving code reflects this idea.
1:30 Cam car could've easily done something. Anyone with common sense could've predicted that the car was going to drive into their path, and the cam car did nothing in response to seeing the driver doing so, didn't honk, or brake, or swerve, nothing. If you ask me, neither driver made very smart decisions here

It is just really frustrating on both ends, cammer should have been more careful and car doing the 3-point turn needed to watch their blind spots and make sure there was no cars that were coming from either direction, even if they weren't there at the beginning of their turn. Just another accident that simply could have been avoided if both parities were being a little bit more watchful.
I mean, it's not advisable to do, but if you see someone doing one it only makes sense to lay back and give them the space for a moment.

No, that‘s untrue. If you are getting into traffic after backing up you have to yield to everybody so the guy had every reason to assume she would look before going, as she should, which she didn’t. The time between her starting to move forward and hitting him was way too short for him to react.

7:30 - That dump truck is 1,000% in the wrong, and we'd all be better off if they lost their CDL. That was a shared left turn lane and there was nothing the dump truck could have possibly been turning into unless it was before the start of the video, and that would be in the lane for too long. (Should have turned at the intersection it just passed if it was in the lane that early.)

While I completely agree, the woman should have been more defensive, too, and I mean both in her driving and in her behavior after the accident had happened. Turning in the middle of the road doesn't give you the right of way. She was acting like it did, though.

it was IMMEDIATE too, while opposite side had people turning left still. I never take a red right turn when oncoming side is turning left because people change lanes mid intersection all the time and I'd rather wait 5 seconds than risk an insurance headache

This version is not wrong. Cammer should indeed have seen her being an idiot and gotten out of her way, but he was too busy talking on the phone. It might not rise to legal fault on his part, but it was pretty frigging dumb.

If you went on vacation to Peru, or Canada, or France, or Italy, or literally anywhere in the world, and rented a car, would you get a drivers licence in each country you visited, or just drive on your (perfectly legal) US licence?
Based on how it's worded, I'd say the IDs those two people had were NOT actual drivers' licenses, just ID cards. As for the one who had insurance, it may have been on someone else's name (stupid thing to do, but that's a theme here...).

I'm used to defensive driving. I have a dash cam, but haven't needed it yet. Only time I'm hit is when I'm parked for some reason. I park perfectly in my spaces, it's the other drivers who don't know what they are doing lol. Some of these clips....irritate me

Nah you are required to complete a u turn into the nearest lane. Because she reversed so far and straightened out into the centre lane, that became her lane. Moving from there into the right lane becomes a lane change at that point and she was required to give way to the cammer car. He is still dumb as rocks for not slowing down to guage her intentions, but insurance will find her 100% liable. If she wanted to be in the right lane she should have completed the U turn without leaving the right lane once she entered it, which would have been incredibly easy to do.

I can honestly say that many years of driving in my home county in Florida I never did a u-turn. Ever. On the main drag it was against the law, so if you missed the road it was go up to somewhere with a parking lot and get in line for the next light going back the way you came. Missing your turn meant at least ten to fifteen minutes extra. You darned sure learned very quickly which road you wanted.
I was taught to operate a boat in my youth by an older man named John. John had rules for vessel operation. #1- Everybody on the water is an idiot, give them a wide berth and never project your understanding/awareness of any situation onto them.
At 07:29 mark, "JimtheWhale" did the right thing, used the left turn lane correctly despite the dump truck driver misusing it.
Only question I have is, how in the world do you know he drove a full mile in the left turn lane? It's not possible to see a mile up any road even in the best of conditions, and if you were inside the P.O. taking care of business, he had a decent amount of time to be well out of your sight.
You said it was an unfamiliar road, so you can't use the "I know this route, where every light is" bit, either.
Unless you somehow flew up above him the whole time (like use of a drone, which I seriously doubt), you had no way of knowing how far he drove in that lane. There were clearly other openings across the road that he could have pulled into, and you wouldn't have known where he went.

7:12 and this is why we never let the left turner turn on a multi lane road unless all the lanes are letting them pass (like if there were too many cars on the other side of the intersection), it never goes well, and is safer for left turner to just wait 2 seconds (in this case, literally 2 seconds) for the light to change.

Most states have laws that say you can only travel down a center turn lane (suicide lane, which definitely fits here) for about 300 feet, aka the length of three American football fields without endzones. Same distance applies to how far from another car you need to turn your brights off (not that half the people in the US know you can turn those off)
NEPALIAMIR, @ Timestamp 3:50, the person merging left into the left turn lane is obviously the one at fault. The person merging left is crossing over a solid white line within 100 ft of the intersection. This makes that person liable for the damages as they are trying to merge into an already occupied lane. It is the responsibility of the person doing the merging to ensure that the land that the emerging into is clear of any oncoming traffic

I spent a few months on the island of Sicily many years ago. Many of the roads there are narrow and winding, not the best roads to drive even when conditions are perfect. Well, one thing I learned from the Sicilian drivers while driving those roads is that when you pull out into a main road, you step on the gas. Don't ease it out there and act like everything will be fine or that others will just yield to you. You're going to get hit, and maybe someone will get hurt or killed.
