    My sister, 2 friends and myself met Sid! My aunt lived in Minn. & had always promised to take us there. This was back in the late 70's & we were all high school & college students and avid sewers thanks to my grandmum. We had originally planned to shop one day there and see other sights the other days of our visit. Nope, it took us 4 days to get through the store.. as my aunt had projected. We'd traveled by train because it was both cheaper & at that time very inexpensive to ship boxes with you on the train. My aunt knew Sid & introduced us - oh gosh, he was hilarious & brought my aunt a sandwich when it was lunchtime & she wanted to go eat.. and we couldn't pull ourselves away. We spent every last dime we had there & our parents had to wire us $$ to ship it back home & for food on the trip back. We came home with boxes & boxes of fabrics.

      Zoe, that is the best story! That must have been so much fun, and I’d love to have seen what it looked like in the late 70s. That sounds like something Sid would have done 😀 How long did it take you to sew through those boxes of fabric

      That’s so true! I can’t even tell you how many times I have had some thing in my shopping cart, decided to put it back, and then wished I had purchased it. Or, you don’t put it in your cart because you’re so sure you’ll remember to go back and get it, and you forget. 😂

    Love SRHarris! I was there last Friday. I’ve shopped there for over 40 years. We used to have to call when we reached the Metro to see where they were located. Sid use to move around the Metro until they housed at the current location. I love the remnant bins! So much fun.

    I have been going to SR Harris for over 25 years. It is very true to have an idea of what you are looking for before you go in. It can be very overwhelming for some people - not me - I could browse for hours and come up with ideas - mostly quilting now. I have encountered Sid many times. He is such a salesman - trying to talk me into fabric "I need," but also could tell you exactly where to find what you did need.

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  Год назад

      It is such a treasure, isn’t it? I agree, he always tried to talk you into fabric you “needed“ ha ha. I could also browse for hours, and when we lived in the Twin Cities, I would do so. However, now when we visit the area, our time is so limited that I’m grateful when I get an hour in the store

    Went to the Brooklyn Park this weekend. Let’s be clear the selection of fabric is unending especially those who make costumes, show clothes,etc. However for the average quilter and sewer the fabric is not cheap/inexpensive by any means. Basically it’s marked up to mark down. Most quilting cotton can be found at a much lower cost. We went anticipating incredible prices, none to be found.

    I think I discovered it around the early 90s or late 80s. Surprised to see they still use the stickers! No high tec there! I moved away 15 years ago, and now live about a 40 minute drive to the Bursnville store, which is a bit smaller but still impressive. Looking forward to your video on that store.

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  Год назад

      You know, I never even thought about that. But it is surprising They still use the same sticker for marking the cut fabric. The one thing that changed was they now provide decent scissors. Do you remember when you used to bring your own scissors, because the ones they provided were so dull they wouldn’t cut the fabric?
      I lived closer to the Burnsville location, and was really happy when that one opened. My preference is still the large warehouse though! And when we visit the area, I always make sure to stop by.

    Is there a clearance or a bargain section?

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  5 месяцев назад

      Hi, sorry for the delay.
      They don’t really have a clearance section as all of their fabrics are 50% off of the price marked. On occasion, they will have some “clearance“ fabrics, that are marked down even further, and those are the price marked. You do not take an additional discount. Because it’s a warehouse, and they buy a lot of deadstock, the selection varies frequently.
