It annoys me seriously, that people still doubt that when they see black women with beautiful long, thick and healthy hair. Honestly, I just don't get it. As a 4c chick I have officially stopped using over the counter store bought hair products. The longer my hair got, the worse it became because of the chemicals in the mass produced store products. I use nothing but ayurvedic remedies on my hair, all of what she teaches ie soap nuts and fenugreek for my shampoo, hibiscus and olive oil for deep conditioning, flax seeds for length retention, neem oil and aloe vera juice for moisture to name a few. My scalp and hair has been thriving. No dandruff, no over production of sebum, no breakage. i truly believe the mass prodcued products do more harm to our natural hair. Go back to your roots...

Get it Girl !!! 🙌🏾 You are on point! 🎯 💯 No more store bought for me either. I have enough oils, butters, essential oils, Ayurvedic herbs, Aloe Vera Gel and Juice, Glycerin, flaxseeds, and other goodies to make my own hair and skin products with no chemicals and harsh preservatives. I'm good. I'm on a 2-year "No Store Bought Products" Challenge. It's all DIY.
I just bought a lot of silicone baking cups to freeze my products in 1-wash sizes so that I can make big batches at a time. But honestly, my hair thrives on natural ingredients from DIY formulas vs store bought products, even though they're also made with natural ingredients. My hair and body absolutely hates shea butter and 90% of products have shea butter in them. So, I'm using way better butters and sticking with what works for me. 😘

"I have officially stopped using over the counter store bought hair products. ...the worse it became because of the chemicals in the mass produced store products"
This right here is why I have never been into the TGIN, (new) Cantu, Miss Jessie, etc products because, not only the prices, but also the fact of all the chemicals in it.
When I went natural almost 20 years ago we all were taught to stick to NATURAL products and that the products that were out back then(this was before Miss Jessie, etc) had too many other chemicals in it which were causing problems for the scalp and hair. And that knowledge came from people stopping the use of perms due to the chemicals in there causing our heads problems. Now when it comes to straightening my hair is when I will use store brought products but generally I don't. I have heard some products like Grapeseed oil and even Crisco are good heat protectants because of being able to handle high heat(idk if that is really true but I tried it anyway). There's a new product of Castor oil and water. Pfft. Just take your black castor oil and mix it with some good water that you can buy in the store if you have bad tap water.
A lot of these things you make yourself which is what we were all doing back then.

    • @marlak4203
      @marlak4203 3 года назад +5

      @@coriebarnes8680 Yep.
And I believe a lot of these trendy and expensive store products are what is also causing so many to have these hair problems. Like "heat damage" so quickly and edge loss, etc.
I don't remember seeing so many of these issues so frequently as now. I don't use nor style my hair the way that is popular now so i have thankfully missed out on the madness.
How do you flat iron your hair once and its heat damage everywhere? Unless you flat ironed your hair slowly and at the maximum degrees of 500 then I don't know what else is causing that.

Every time someone tells me they wish they had my hair length. I tell them they can with time and patience. If you treat your hair like its a part of your body and not just something that grows out of it, you will start to be more attentive and patient with your hair. @@honeybdream hey so i basically do what she does, and i would say the biggest thing with growing natural hair is intention: it’s not just about what styles or oils you use (although those are super important too, more on that later tho) but about how you treat your hair. One quote that really resonated with me from indigenous strandz was that she treats her strands of her hair like her ancestors - super gentle. So i would say the key is always treating your hair with respect. It really helps to reduce breakage because you’re more gentle with it. But other then that, i keep my hair in twists 99% of the time (and head wraps in the winter) and i basically cut out all hair products. I only use castor oil, flax, and aloe. I can give you some of my recipes if you would like (i made the most amazing scalp oil! And how you treat your body is also important (the food you eat and exercise/yoga). anyways end of rant lol i’m just super passionate about hair!

Also, i suggest going to the indian foods store bc they have a lot of herbs for cheap!

The issue is that people put oil on top of dry, unmoisturized hair. If you use a water based product (water, rose water, aloe vera juice), then the oil you put on top will seal in the moisture. That’s the key to growth and healthier hair. You have to see which oil works best for you. My hair hates coconut and castor oil. It loves grape seed oil.

Yes. That is very true in that you have to find the oil that works for you.
I will also say, even tho this is an added strain but, you also want to find the right version for you.
I have coconut oil now. I have found a version that works very well for me. However I have used other versions and it burned me. Literally. My skin stinged and turned black at the spot. When I got back to using the kind for me I never had that problem.
So sometimes you actually can still use the product but its depends on the "version" that you use. Version meaning brand? Maybe if that works for you, but for me it was a matter of process. Unrefined vs Refined. That's why so many tell folks to use EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil. Not just Virgin or plain olive oil. Tho ,maybe the plain version works for the person or just the virgin does but the person has to go thru trial and error to find out.

Omg girl hair goals❤. Your hair is gorgeous 🤩 I currently have locs and I have learned that if you just oil your hair and leave it alone it grows like crazy. My hair is mid back since getting my locs done. I started shoulder length one year ago. I'm proud of my crown honey ! ❤❤❤

@Tiara Cunningham-I had locs for 17 years and they were down to my butt. I combed them out two years ago. I'm loving my loose natural! I just found this channel tonight and I am excited about what I will learn and will add to my regimen.

@@diannebaker79 I'm going on 7 years now and have cut my locs twice because I just loved them so short and they were easy to manage. 14 years?! Wow! I would love to know your regimen after you combed your locs out. I'm excited to comb them out but having anxiety at the same time because I'm just whole with my locs lol.

I have been subscribed for awhile but I am probably not one of your original "back in the day" subscribers and even I know it's your darn hair!!! Also, I know that flax seed gel has been key to your growth!
Edit: Still haven't gotten around to the flax gel but your length is definitely motivation for me. I've been keeping my hair in two braids during the week consistently and it had really helped.

I was invited to preach at a church right before the PANDEMIC. My hair is tailbone length. After the service I walked up on a group of "Good Church Sisters " talking about chile you know that ain't all her hair. Focus on praising instead of my hair please. They were looking crazy when they looked up and I was standing there lol. I didn't say a word just smiled. Now when I preach I mainly wear my hair in a bun lol so folks can focus on the Word. My hair can't save nobody...chile 😊

Yes oil does moisturize your hair. Especially with scalp massage. Of course trying to find the right oil your hair likes is part of the journey. 😊❤ I do love castor oil for the ends of my hair. It has kept them from splitting and getting too dry.

If anybody cannot tell and my hair is nowhere near Long and healthy like yours no matter how hard people may try some people still don't get as healthy and beautiful here like yours even if it's short but it's very healthy....... But if nobody cannot tell that is your real hair you could just tell real hair is different even though they make weeds nowadays look like real hair but anybody in the right mind in spirit could tell it's your real hair people who are just saying that it doesn't make sense but the point is it's beautiful you took out the time and the effort and just took care of it and did what you had to do and the results have showed that is healthy it's like very long and just gorgeous your hair is just healthy and gorgeous beautiful and that's good that you keep it in the twisties because it makes it easy and more manageable to deal with when you're doing with hair that that long especially for our type of hair it's different may God continue to be guide you and be pleased with you and people don't understand when they're looking at real hair they know is your real hair they know that
