Thanks for mentioning that it is a modified sine wave inverter (saved me time from looking it up). Good for many things around the house but not for a backup power source for medical equipment.
So I found this unit at homedepot. I would use this unit to power my tvs, router and security cameras as for fans I have 2 ryobis cordless fans during power outrage. Thanks for the info.
I like the display and info it provides and having portable power with the batteries is really nice. I have a hard time sleeping without a fan so this during a power outage would be a life saver. Awesome Review.
Great review Fernbark. That inverter can come in handy. I like the fact it has a few different ways to power it. You have all the cool gadgets! Take care and have a great day!
I have one question that even the ryobi customer service couldn’t answer. Does this thing have a low battery voltage shut off to protect you’re car battery from completely draining.
Depends on your power source. Tells you the max watts per power source right on the device. Divide the max watts by the voltage of the source and you have your amps.
Can this be used to power a heated chicken water dispenser? How long would the ryobi battery last? How long would the 12v last? Can solar panels be hooked up to recharge the batteries?
Buenas tardes, por favor me puedes compartir el link, del monitor de baterías. Muchas gracias. NOTA: Ya he comprado 1 unidad de este mismo inversor, viene en camino. Precio incluyendo envío: $139
They ship it to me. I am the only place outside of Wisconsin you can get it because I am not afraid to do a 4 foot drop test....or possibly my mom lives in Wisconsin and load up every Mother's Day when I visit.
@@FernbarkFrist I tried to have it shipped to me a few years back but TN was on a list that couldn't have alcohol shipped. I work all over the country so I've found a lot of favorites. Madison, WI was the New Glarus brews. Funny thing I just mentioned this very thing yesterday.
I like this and I have enough ryobi batteries to support this inverter. But no bi directional nor pass through discharge or charging... this is why bluetti, ecoflow etc is killing this type of market. I only see this as good if you already have a bunch of ryobi batteries. Otherwise something like the bluetti can be cheaper that this ryobi set up
Since the Inverter's 18 volt battery circuit is limited to 300 watts, wouldn't it use less wattage than the 12 volt 800 watt circuit when nothing is plugged into either one of them?
No, the inverter uses the same power regardless of the power source. The inverter is probably 12v and there is a step down buck converter to convert the 18v to 12v if I had to guess.
@@FernbarkFrist There are 2 different 140V supplies for the inverter H bridge. One runs off the 18V battery port and I think (didn't do a full reverse engineer of the PCB) the 12V cigarette lighter cord port. The other runs off the 12V binding posts. There are also various isolation diodes for the rail that feeds the brain box and the USB and 12V ports on the front.

Probably not. I would imagine you will want something that is better (and almost certainly a lot more money).
Handy if you have all those batteries. And they are charged up. Thank you for showing this to us, Fernbark. Stay safe and stay warm
If you don't already have a pile of these batteries, it doesn't make much sense, but many people who have Ryobi stuff have a bunch of these batteries.

You are welcome.

Thanks, this is a great item to have if you own a bunch of these batteries.
Have used this for year.. this is the best damn investment ever .. powers my sump pump for defrosting cases
Great video, I like how you actually validated power flows and went into detail about how it works. Thanks!
Glad you liked it Colin

Thanks for watching! I don't have all the cool gadgets. I barely own any Dewalt products.
That is a great power alternative for emergencies for sure. Excellent review!
It is pretty handy.
Thanks to you I did not return it!!🥰 You said hold down the on button and now it works!! I was so irritated!! Lol Phew!
Glad to have helped.
Like you said... if you got all them batteries like you, it's nice to have that power available for other uses! Great review Brother.

Thanks for the video. I just bought one😊
Glad I could help!
"Four Foot Drop Test was successful"! LOL.
Best part for sure hahaha
Testing everything is important.
Total complete review, even the accidental drop.
Would of been a winner if they made it pure sinewave
Yes, a huge miss. But that probably would have made it $100 more, and would have killed the price point for this unit.
My bad, found it on HD page in the ADDITIONAL RESOURCES box.
Thanks for the video.
I can't believe these are $50 on clearance at home Depot
Can use three different power sources??? Very nice and flexible!
Yes, absolutely
I have one question that even the ryobi customer service couldn’t answer. Does this thing have a low battery voltage shut off to protect you’re car battery from completely draining.
Yes
Oughta be a law... I can't find a manual for this. Can you figure a max amp-draw spec for the 120v outlet? Thanks.
Depends on your power source. Tells you the max watts per power source right on the device. Divide the max watts by the voltage of the source and you have your amps.
@@FernbarkFrist Thanks!
Hi. You said the 120v output can only do 650 watt for 30 min. Why is that?
It will get hot and trigger a safety mechanism to shut it down till cools.
Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!

Depends. Depends. Depends. Yes, but not to this unit.
You might want to watch this video to see how to hook up a solar panel to charge portable batteries. ruclips.net/video/nBlKmfIN4Ms/видео.html
that outro though lol
I try to do a full review.
What size was the space heater?
400 watts
will it run a sump pump? if so would I need a 12 battery to run it? Thanks
Since I have no idea what the power requirements for your pump are, there is no way I can tell you.
Do I need on of this for home user?? Trying to justify what would I need it for. Lol
Probably not for home use at all. Nice in the car. I go camping a lot and use it to charge stuff.
@Garage Kitchen of Science I guess I don't really need it. I never go camping:(

Just look for battery monitor on Amazon. That is where I bought this one.
How did you get that New Glarus beer Fern? Road trip??
They ship it to me. I am the only place outside of Wisconsin you can get it because I am not afraid to do a 4 foot drop test....or possibly my mom lives in Wisconsin and load up every Mother's Day when I visit.

No pass thru is a real bummer. Even more of a bummer on their big 40v model. Makes no sense.
Is the 12v output regulated?
Great question. I don't know.
Can you charge your car battery if your car battery is dead?
No, I tested to see if power would come out of the clamps if the 18v battery was in, and it does not.
Where to order one like that inverters
The Home Depot
Did you use a lithium ion / phosphate battery ? It says lead acid only … hope you can use a lithium battery.
I used an LFP battery. Perhaps I should not have used one. Always follow the directions, not what I might do. Although, the One+ batteries are all Li.
@@FernbarkFrist no if it works I’d be interested in using it myself … with lithium phosphate
@@MontenegroNoel LiFePO4 will be fine as long as it has a BMS, since the low charge cutoffs are different than lead acid.
Can you jump a car battery with it?
No, there isn't any voltage coming thru the terminals with the 18v battery plugged in.
Ryobi makes a larger unit that allows for this.
That's wild, it can't charge battery
Yup.

Why does the screen look like crap?
There was a sticker on it from the factory that left residue and I am having trouble cleaning it off.
Drain your battery w/no load ?
Hmmm ... I think I'll pass.
Every inverter that is turned on will do that regardless of who made it. It is just something to be aware of.
