An interesting set of images Mali with a specific process that I haven't seen you do before. It seems to work well and decluttering the scene and making it like you say, painterly. You must have been happy with your intro too. A lot of work indeed!
Hello Simon, thanks for taking the time to comment. Yes, a very different way to edit and shoot, the 85mm works very well but a tough challenge, all good fun. The intro was also alot of fun albeit with the go pro messing about. I hope your recovering very well? and I think we need to arrange something to head out for an evening. Sithee soon Simon.
Joy is underrated but to have brought you some makes it top of my day! Thank you so much Barb, I hope you enjoy the next video, lots more trees 😍👍 thank you so very much
Intro of dreams Pal, multi angles, music and dronage, short pants :-) !! BOOM what a start ...looks like the draw of the bells was music to your ears .. cracking shots Pal
Beautiful way to enjoy the evening sunshine Mali, got some belters from that excursion I would say. Also good example of challenging one's self by limiting your lens options too
The tree with the white blossom is probably a blackthorn (like the cider). Hawthorns (usually) have pink blossom of varying shades. Blackthorn flowers earlier, often with blossom before the leaves. Blackthorn have black fruit (sloes, yep sloe gin), hawthorns have orangey red fruits, pailer than most rowan (mountain ash) trees. They're all part of the rose family anyhow. I fell in love with hawthorns a few years back as there's lots of old farm hedges where I live. The smell is amazing and the closer you get the more beautiful the blossom is; unlike, in my mind, the over-praised cherry blossom that has almost no scent and looks rather plain close up. Under-exposed longer lens shots always seem to give that 'painterly' look. I was out yesterday doing landscapes with a 500mm mirror lens I usually only use for street photography - what I describe as instant Rembrandts .... that is if he had a camera. There's a more interesting fall off of light with longer lenses, combined with the shallow depth of focus and the apparent greater depth of saturation from under-exposing that appeals to me. I need to pick up a 80/90 mm lens. I've always used zooms for that sort of mid-focal length but they don't help pre-visualise the shot before you've even brought the camera up to the eye and my big sweaty nose against the ideally placed LCD screen. I could make a fortune out of a flip down greaseproof protector over the LCD 😁
Aaah yes! You see I didn’t have my Grandad with me he would of corrected me, it was one of his favourite places when I was a kid. The Blackthorn has a mean spike on them also, I should of known as I got spiked a few times taking close ups. That I didn’t end up using 🤦🏻♂️ thanks so much for your words and as always your continued watching 👍 Sithee
@@MaliDaviesPhotography Okay, this isn't a horticultural channel but in wandering around the last couple of days I've been checking out hawthorns that are starting to blossom and low and behold the majority around my village are turning out white, or near as dammit. So, although everything I stated previously holds true, as they're only just blossoming their definitely hawthorn. Now depending on when the vlog was filmed and not having a close-up to examine that tree, maybies aye maybies naw, a hawthorn. Which makes me consider that it could be climate temperature variable or they could become pinker later in the season. Let it be known that no-one can say I'm not prepared to admit I may have been ....... mistaken 🤔😢😂
Gorgeous shots Mali, you can’t beat a nice trundle in local woods with Bluebells in full bloom and dappled light, did so myself a couple of weeks ago and it was refreshing. Also a challenge sorting out compositions amidst the chaos, get it right and it’s very rewarding 😉👍
Keep it Safe Keep it Secret is my fav. Interesting... I put on my Sigma 105 prime for closed landscape when the light suits, as the glass takes crisp images. Cheers from down under
I’m think John Constable ish and the Hay Wain. Putting the distracting pins to one side it was a joy to see the results using what is a very much overlooked lens/ aperture combination. Good work as always and not one time lapse in sight 😙😙👍😬
Just caught up with this one! There is nothing stranger than folk it's an old saying but I am old! yes a strange focal length it's normally very wide or very long in mm for landscapes but you proved that's a nonsense, they were lovely images that you showed us Mali, and what a finish after a day at work I hope you enjoyed your evening meal when you got home and with images like that maybe you should have a Guinness with it too! Once again it was a pleasure to watch, why climb mountains to take pictures when you have all this close by....Thank you for sharing...
Des! This is very kind not just for what your saying but the meaning behind it. As in we should try whatever we want and never be told to do things a certain way because this doesn’t work for everyone. As a superb photographer yourself, you comments are taken onboard and appreciated. Take it easy Des, sithee 👍
If this is were i think it is over 19 arches on the other side of Dam heading towards Garswood, the Bluebells gave it away been here many times a fantastic place. some great light wonderful trees and plants, layer upon layer of natural scenes very ethereal....
oh yes, really shared your enthusiasm Mali, the way you study the scene around you inspires us all, loved the images but my heart goes out to Holy Matrimony, just loved that one
I have to admit, woodland is not my strong suit but I can't help but get enthused by your videos. So I will challenge myself to try some more. BTW, the images do have that impressionist feel. I had to smile when you commented that you should not just take the shot then hurry away as I could see some nice looking compositions over your shoulder. 😂
Thanks so much Berny, one thing I’ve learned what looks like a composition in video rarely turns into a photograph, but sometimes video footage can give you ideas. Big thanks again Berny and look forward to some woodland shots
All my lenses are telephoto. I do own a 105 macro. I have set my 70 - 200 at 80 and shot with only that length as a challenge but then think why when I have the full range available. Makes for some different shots I guess. Great lot of shots Mali.
Thanks so much for watching. My reasoning for the 85mm mainly using this lens because of the f1.8 always good fun. But I do agree, if you’ve got the focal lengths use them. On this occasion I only brought one lens. A eureka moment, I know I make a video on just that 😂😂😂
Spot on as usual. Love the darker images. I've walked those paths many times, but not at that time of day. I need to shift myself and try it. Thanks again, you always manage to nail it 👏👍
Nice 👍 I think 85mm is a wonderful focal length for woodland and using a prime has certainly helped me see better within wooded areas. So much so, I’d say 90% of the woodland images I’m happy with are from my 85mm prime. I also do like a bit of foreground abstraction so that ‘through the branches’ image was right up my Cul de sac 👏
Yea 85mm and wide open lots of fun, the Viltrox is rather good, I’m hoping after this Nikon will send me an 85mm to use 🤪🤣😂🤣🤪🤣😂 yea. Thanks Steve, top man! You need lace them boots and come north again soon 😍👍
Beautiful images, I will have to go out to my to my local wooded area with my old 90mm film lens (I haven't got an 85mm) and test myself, especially with manual focus. Great video Mali
Yea go out and have some fun, can’t beat the woods for a walk. Just get some repellent I got eaten alive 🤣 thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
As always a great vlog Mali, something I have yet to try is limiting myself to just one prime lens, most of mine are tele-photo but I do have a 35mm and a nifty fifty, your vlog has given me the encouragement to give it a try. 👍 Love the painterly images
Deep in the Down my fav. Love how you find beauty in a jumble of trees. On another note, are you not worried about ticks walking through tall grasses in shorts?
Thanks so much for watching. In terms of ticks, this woodland I think has none. I’ve been coming here since I was a little lad, and never known of ticks. I always have a check after tho.
The life-affirming joyfulness of photography in one 20 minute video! Fantastic!
My goodness that’s a huge compliment, and I’ll take it 😬 thank you Jerry 😍🙏
As always done with feeling and like music reverberates your passion for your work.
