    Great video dude! I'm very interested in gameplay mechanics style video like this one. It's amazing to me that almost no one talks about this topic. Its something I've always thought about but only recently decided I'll always go for 2 confusions after a charge move Vs 3 turn moves or 1 counter Vs a 3 turn move as it's way more consistent than trying to piggyback. I find it harder timing my 3 turn moves against 2 turn moves however, but this video will help for sure!

    Would love to see more of this kind of videos! I always thought I needed to throw at the LAST TURN of the opponent's fast moves and have been timing like that. I've been wondering why sometimes it still gives my opponent free fast moves. This vid helped a lot!
    Would you consider making a video about undercharging? I'm not sure about, for example, how each bubble translates to how much extra damage, or the base damage (hitting no bubbles) would be how much percent of a full one. I've been estimating based off my fast move damages and experience mostly, but definitely can't do perfect undercharging reliably.

    • @Wallower
      @Wallower  3 года назад +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! Undercharging is definitely high up on my list of videos especially since I think a lot of people (even some prominent high ranked players) use this mechanic even when it is a bit unnecessary.
      I will warn you though that even knowing the base # and additional damage #, undercharging still seems like more of an art than a science because it's only by experience that you'll know how much damage your move would do at 100% in the first place but knowing the percentages can definitely help you dial it in

    • @sadiemixer8744
      @sadiemixer8744 3 года назад

      Wallower Thank you so much for making such an informative video for us! I can tell it takes a lot effort!
      I think theoretically, if we know the ratio of our charge move damage and fast move damage, potentially we can kind of roughly estimate even facing a brand new opposing Pokémon. I always tried to experiment with it a bit when I’m battling team rockets.
      But yeah I totally agree with you. Actually I think it’s more of luck than art or science to me lol.

    • @sadiemixer8744
      @sadiemixer8744 3 года назад +1

      Wallower Just thought of a nice example, a no-bubble cross chop does a bit more than one counter, but less than two counters. But with fast moves like snarl that hardly does anything this way of estimating is certainly way less useful.

    • @Wallower

  • @scudjoples
    @scudjoples 3 года назад +1

    I always tried to sync up my charge moves to the ending of their slower fast moves to try and maximize my energy gains, and they would very frequently get a full confusion or some shit through on my charge moves. I kept doing this because it seems unfair that lag lets those things through because of some 0.003 window opening, and I refuse to accept it lol. I'll probably be doing this from now on, thank u for guide

    • @Wallower
      @Wallower  3 года назад +3

      There will definitely be a video about undertapping coming eventually. For overtapping hopefully they fix it but if you have a 3 turn or 4 turn fast move and really need to get it off just make sure you see the entire bubble light up before you press it. Don't be afraid to waste a turn being patient if it is that important that you get that charge move off immediately

    • @Wallower
      @Wallower  3 года назад +2

      Unfortunately there is nothing you can do and it seems to be random if they will get their fast moves to go by. You can try holding your charge move until they throw theirs and piggyback off of it but I'm not certain that it's any more effective than just playing normally especially considering you're taking the risk now that they might KO you with that charge move

    Great stuff! You managed to make a quite complex topic accessible! One closing thought on this. Since you can't always take advantage of the fast move (e.g. when the moves are equal in speed or in the 4/2 scenario) doesn't it make sense to try and piggyback? Since it gives you a 50%ish chance to bug out their fast attack? Cheers

    • @Wallower
      @Wallower  3 года назад

      Yes i would agree trying to piggyback in that case is good. The thing is even if you dont try to piggyback sometimes they also don't get an extra move and i have no idea what each of the percentages are of giving the opponent a free fast move are from piggybacking/regular play

    Very nice video on an advanced topics. Mastering this could flip matches! Thanks for that.
    Im curious if i understand the following correctly though, would be nice of you could help me out:
    In the 3-turn vs 4-turn example, lets assume i have energy immidiately and start of table. I think i should just spam my charge move as soon as my very first fast move animation start, is this right? Or should i actually be careful with timing and precisely activate on the 3rd turn (marked yellow)?
    Now is it so, that when i spam click the charge move it gets ignored/won't queue until the 3rd turn (marked yellow)? Or more general: You can only activate your charge moves on your last or one-but last turn of the fast move duration? Also, does having a fully stored charge move or just acquiring the needed energy with your last fast move where you wanna do this trick of denying your opponent a free charge move make any difference at all?
    Hope you understand my questions and are able to help me :)

    • @Wallower
      @Wallower  3 года назад

      You are correct, once you see your fast move animation begin you can start spamming your charge move in the 3v4. I've only really seen overtapping happen after a charge move recently
      Having the energy already or getting that energy on the final move doesn't matter as long as you make sure to keep pressing the charge move button until after it lights up

    • @Wallower

    • @samamies88

When they are near their charge i decide my move: either i have energy for my charge or i don't, i have shield or i don't, i am gonna stay on field, feint this pokemon, catch their charge on someone else or i force cmp tie.. sure it could be advantageous to count your own moves but taking a quick look if u have energy or not is most often enough.

    question: how can you keep track of your opponent fast moves if you are counting yours? are you able to do both countings together? Since I don't think I would able to do it, don't you think it's more worth to count only opponent moves? Thanks

    • @Wallower

      It depends on what the situation is. If you're planning on shielding their moves anyways then it's better to count yours. In the 2v3 turn for example I know 10 of mine is just before 7 of theirs so I count mine to 10 in the DD vs azu matchup so I know I won't eat a HP

    Hi, thanks for the helpful information. what's the reason when in a 3 turn fast move mirror match, for example shiftry v shiftry, my opponent seems to always sneak in an extra snarl when I throw a charge move but when my opponent throws a charge move I don't get the extra charge move? Shouldn't both of us also get an extra fast move since it takes an extra turn to activate a charge move?

    So to dumb it way down, would it be fair to say that, in a non-identical attack durationmatch-up, following a reset, it is almost universally better to throw an odd number of fast moves (i.e. 1, 3 or 5) before throwing a charge move, as opposed to going for a tie or an even number?

    I need to run some tests because I think I found that if you deny their fast move properly you can throw your charge move at the same time they would be tapping to start a quick move but it won't let them do a charge move. So for example if I have shadow claw vs. bubble I'll do 3 shadow claws which syncs up to 2 bubbles, then I'll do 3 more but on my third one I'll tap the charge button as soon as it fills then deny the quick move and if I do it correctly they'll only have been able to get 2 more bubbles off. I need to test it out though just to confirm but I'm pretty sure by syncing up the turns I've been able to deny my opponents from getting in extra quick moves in.

    • @FlarkeFiasco
      @FlarkeFiasco 3 года назад +1

      Ooo nice, vs the marowak, you actually hit that sky attack 1 whole fire spin early because of perfect timing. Yeah, this is the kinda shit people don't realize you can do if you get consistent with this. I'm glad you did a video about it bro

    • @FlarkeFiasco
      @FlarkeFiasco 3 года назад +1

      With the vigoroth example, you couldn't fire optimally because you hit 98 energy and you needed to throw 1 more counter for it to be optimal. Unfortunate, and yeah, it's tough to know when to throw optimally without a reset. Resets are super reliable. Like you said, you kinda just have to "notice" that your animations line up.
      Should have fired after the counter that got you within 1 counter of bulldoze (so basically, when bulldoze was 1 counter away, that was an ideal time). And then 4 after that was another window.
      4 after that would be 98+7 energy, which caps at 100 and loses you 5. I legit have no idea how to evaluate if it's worth it to lose 5 energy to cap to use ideal timing, but something tells me it's not lol

    • @FlarkeFiasco
      @FlarkeFiasco 3 года назад +1

      Ohhhh JK, so you CMP tied the azu. Then that's still optimal timing cuz if you both CMP tie, then you're both not losing or gaining any moves. That was fortunate hehe. I'll sometimes fire on a CMP tie, knowing that they will be spamming their move. And if I have a higher attack stat, I'll go first, then lock them into a spot where they have a harder time farming since they already threw to try to stop me from throwing.

    • @FlarkeFiasco
      @FlarkeFiasco 3 года назад +1

      I would suggest adding a secondary timing interval for 4 vs 3, because you're right, taking 8 turns to find optimal timing after a reset is rough, and sometimes you just need to throw sooner. I liked putting in a compromise, which is actually just 1 confusion after the reset. It gives them 1 bonus turn they wouldn't have gotten before, but it also ensures you're getting your charge moves out fast enough.
      Fighting against or with 3 turn moves is really really key. You're absolutely right. So many meta Pokémon use 3 turn moves, and mastering the timing vs them gives you so many advantages, squeaking out an extra charge move (like at the end vs Skarmory) is just another landslide victory because of timing

      if your fast moves take the same amount of turns, your opps mon will always get a fast move off when you throw your charge move, and vice versa. In the case of an "unnatural" cmp tie, where you both have charge moves ready to throw but they go first, try to wait and use one more fast move before throwing yours. If you click your charge move immediately, they will fit another fast move in occasionally, which will leave you one move behind.
